    Good luck to you! I am in Lubbock and after tasting my Miho Satsuma Mandarin I knew I wanted it in ground it was so good. So I built a winter lean-to greenhouse against a shed that I could easily disassemble in the spring every year. This is it's first winter and so far so good 👍 Can't wait for spring 😀

      Haa thanks...just tell them it's for the kids!! You guys in the panhandle north or Dallas area? If Dallas, then Bob wells Nursery have a good selection of citrus trees and plants! Also, the Samsclub down there usually sells citrus every spring so check them out for more selections. I also ordered a blood orange and it's currently lost in transit for almost two weeks now....so who know what will happen. Can't wait to make a video on it...dead or alive haaha.

    That is a shiranui , not an owari . The shiranui is very expensive and very tasty . Other names are sumo citrus and dekopan . The humps on top of each fruit is why I say this . Owari is round .

    • @natbackyardgarden
      @natbackyardgarden  2 роки тому +3

      You know what...I think you might be correct! I research more into that variety and it fit the descriptions! I thought nothing of the hump/nipple due to its first year bearing fruit, but we will know for sure next time it bear fruits! Well....now here is my next excuse for another mandarin tree...haa.

      They both about the same . I have both and a grower in my local area told me he can protect them down to 14 degrees if it ever became necessary with micro sprinklers . A mature tree can take 18 to 20 degrees if they are fairly dormant but fruit would be ruined at those temperatures. Young trees need to be protected at 20 or below . We rarely get below 20 here in South Georgia north Florida area . Micro sprinklers have to be set up correctly or they don’t work and will cause more damage to tree than unprotected. Grower has a very large acreage of these trees and he knows the science behind it . I tried the sumo that he sells and my wife and agreed it was the best tasting citrus we had ever eaten !

      @@yochanontheseeker1942 I have both as well. My 5 year old in ground Owari survived a couple nights in the mid teens two years ago ( no damage at all) with no protection other than a fence on the north side. My Decopon is still young and in a large pot but it made it unprotected last winter. Lows dipped to around 18f. Minor damage to the branch tips.
