      +Ryan Embly Do you know how much 250k a year is? That's an extremely high wage compared to the average wage of $81,400 across America. And that's an optimistic estimate, not really representing the 45 million Americans living under the poverty line. So scaling up the tax rate on 250k+ income would not affect their quality of life as much, seeing as they make roughly 9.5 times the minimum estimated living wage of roughly 26k. Besides, the tax rate is scalable, meaning that 250k income wouldn't see that big of an increase in tax rate, whereas people making much more like say 1m+ might see a bigger rise in tax.

The point of your comment was to use something that was said to make the host look bad, and you did that by quoting something out of context. Are you not intelligent enough to stang up for yourself, after I call you out, without throwing insults at me?

      +Daniel O'Connor If Bill 'O Reilly payed fifty cents on the dollar he'd have 7.5 million per year. He could cover college for all his kids in a year. The host's protests are silly if he makes half of what Bill makes. Especially silly when millions can't pay for the medicine and seniors live off 12,000 per year.

    • @danieloconnor1121

      +jordan dyess The left's whole argument is about fairness when it comes to tax rates. You look at someone who is rich and say "why does he need that much money? He would still do fine if we took half of it" I'm sure he probably would be fine if the government took 50% or more, but how is that fair? You don't think rich people have worked hard for their money? You don't think they deserve the life style they have made for themselves? As uncompassionate as it may sound, sometimes poor people deserve to be poor. Social Security is now a scam; The government has stolen so much money from it that there won't be any left when I retire. If you think pouring more money into Social Security is going to work, you're dead wrong. When was the last time the government handled money efficiently? A nation has never taxed itself into prosperity.

    • @notahandle965
      @notahandle965 8 років тому +35

      Daniel O'Connor everyone should pay taxes proportional to their income except for the rich because that always ends up in prosperity and leans towards stability, not war and destruction and extremist groups and an obliterated government that gets replaced by militants with violent and aimless paranoid ideologies. Helping the less fortunate maintain a standard quality of life always ends up in them scamming you and becoming wealthy too, which is why you should never do it. And no wealthy people have scammed their way to prosperity either. Because helping people means handing everything to them, and has nothing to do with their initiative or decisions. Rich people are always hard workers and earned every penny, and it has nothing to do with circumstances or luck or access to information and education that poorer people can't have.
      You're an idiot.

Taxes are high but not so high that they don't have plenty of millionaires. What you and the Republicans don't understand is just because today you have a job and are doing well doesn't mean things can't change. What if you got sick, lost your job and your money? A safety net benefits everyone, including the rich. And free health care means employers don't have to pay for health care. Free college education means a better educated workforce. aldm1967 Have you ever watched MSNBC or are you just repeating some argument that's been repeated for ten years? I'm not a fan of any 24 hour cable news, but MSNBC 80% of the time treats their guests, from both sides of the aisle, with dignity and respect. They do not interrupt. Al Sharpton has a show that can be bombastic, but if you set aside the Al Sharpton hour, the editorial anchors are completely down-to-earth non-sensationalists who like to hear both sides of the argument. People like Chris Hayes or Rachel Maddow will go out of their way to bring up the opposition's arguments to their guests to have them address those, as well. Olbermann is gone (unfortunately), so people can stop with the "MSNBC is just as vile and bad!" shit. It's seriously not true.

      d3rkaderk4 And your rebuttle is, i'm a sponge who has absorbed the rich propoganda. They earn on the back of hard working people in society, they don't pay living wage, they keep most of that money, which is then kept in offshore accounts or in the stock market where it offers nothing to society. Your most successful companies don't even pay tax because they register those companies in other countries. Your country is failing because you keep listening to how sad the millionaires have it and keep bending over backwards to help them get more. More equal societies have less social ills, have rated highly in happiness, freedom, health and education. America doesn't. America rates highly in incarceration. It's about time you guys stopped sucking at the teat of the rich propoganda and started looking at the facts and real life proof. You are fed a story. A story that has helped the 1% increase their wealth, that has helped them get payouts from the government through scare tactics. They are stories. Capitalism does not exist in your country. This system says if you fail you fail. But your country saved the failing banks, they saved the failing corporations that caused the issues for everyone else. They are too big to fail. That isn't capitalism. Ugh, don't worry about it, you are too blind to the real world. Too indoctrinated in the 'we can all be millionaires if we try hard enough' bullshit. You're gone to reality.

However, I think you are going to find out, before too much longer, just exactly how that problem is going to be, not only adressed, but how it is going to be handled to a substantial degree. just remember, though, that the poor will always be with us. But, stealing from the affluent members of society is not going to solve aything. There isn't a simple answer, although what is currently in the works in our economic system will go a long way to solving much of the disparities and indigence that we currently see in the world today.

Especially, it would seem, since I would have to start by covering the basics first, just to get you up to speed. BUT, just FYI, the current poor economic situation is entirely due to the Left shutting down the businesses of practcally the entire Country, in case you hadn't noticed, and the negative effect it has had. And then, by blaming this fraudulent travesty, fiasco, and utter debacle on an over-hyped virus, which, not to mention, has been exagerated well beyond its true virulence. Also, try to remember the state of the economy just prior to the CV 19 breaking out; for your aide-memoire, it was at an all time high in many areas.

    • @dougoverhoff7568

      @TheFranksConqueredEurope It's because so many of those in Congress are corrupt, paid shills, and they dont want to get off of their gravy trains. Service in the Legislature was never intended to be a career. And, it's because we have had a rather hopelessly uninformed, or simply an apathetic electorate in this Country for too long. I think most people do agree with what the outcomes are that we're all looking for, but not necesarily on how do we get there. All we can do, is to keep trying to wake up the masses, and in calling out the lies and corruption whenever and wherever we see it. I'm an optomist, though, and I believe that things do get better over time. At my age, I just hope to live long enough to see some positive changes; and, I really do think that some just might be coming soon. Peace.

He has a point on that. Investments should be taxed at a higher rate. Workers pay less, they are the backbone of the economy. They guy who sits at home, travels the world while his $1M in investments makes him $40K a year should pay more. Sure, I am sure he has worked in the past, but he isn't now AND this guy even stated that he has inherited income AND worked.

      When I was a younger man I worked 2 full time jobs- 7 days & over 80+hours a week for over 1,100 straight days. I made 10 bucks an hour at one & 12 another. At tax time - I was taxed like I made $22 an hour. So simply taxing income makes no sense. We have laws your employer must pay overtime but if you do the work of 2 men, where is your incentive? If I filed either W2 separately, in both instances I was entitled to a refund based on what I payed. Put the 2 together ' I owed them money. RIDICULOUS! I did it because after being employee of the year at both of them simultaneously (did I mention I was riding the bus 4 towns away?) someone eventually noticed and promoted me. But Christ what the little guy has to do to get ahead in this country. But the problem is a lot if not most millionaires in this aren't beneficiaries of monolithic wealth, but 1st generation who have backgrounds like mine, so paying more to make it easier for the next guy isn't too popular once you've overcome it. The unfortunate thing is it ends up benefitting the lazy privileged rich, who aren't the majority of millionaires in head count, but are the majority of the dough. Crying fuckin shame.

Even if his kids need to get scholarships, summer jobs, or internships to pay for their college education, that would be good for their work habits. I'm not arguing for higher taxes, I just find it nonsense for the rich to complain about not being able to provide for their family if they have to pay higher taxes. How about not buying your kids new iPhones, iPods, cars, cloths, toys, computers, or taking expensive family vacations. How about not buying your family whatever they want whenever they want? If the host simply and honestly say, "I don't want to pay higher taxes because I like my money and I want to keep my money so I can have my big house(s), my new cars, my luxurious family vacations, my Ivy League education, my fancy restaurant dinners, my... everything. I don't really care about other people's poverty, if I made it so can they. So don't touch my money", if he was simply honest in that way, then I can respect his arguments. But to bring out the sad story of not being able to take good care of his family because of higher taxes is ridiculous.

      d3rkaderk4 Do you guys not have a stepped tax rate over there? Because here, if you earn 250,000 you only pay the highest tax rate on the income over 200,000. The rest is taxed at a lower rate. I have a feeling you guys must have that, considering half way through he said in the 50's it was a 90% tax rate, and they were thriving. So if you earn 250,000 a year you DON'T take home 125,000 if you are taxed at 50%

      As for him making 250k I do not think you understand, if he is taxed 50 percent (both state and federal) that brings you down to 125k income, while that is sizeable and respectable it still means he lost 125k right off the bat.
      Now start adding in college tuiitions etc and that money does not go very far at all. Not to mention that rent in say New York alone can be 50k a year for very modest living.

    * Take things personal and mock the guest
    * Ask questions to the guest, only hear the first 3 words he has to say before cutting him off and coming with another question.
    * Keep re-raising points that the guest was trying to answer before, but still... always cut him off so he can't really reply.

      I live in the United States and I applaud the clarity with which u described that pattern; a pattern which I have seen myself and attempted to point out to advocates and zealous fans of speakers on both sides of the issues. I personally have to shrug off a creeping sense of defeatism whenever I witness the constant use of shouting the loudest as a valid debate tactic. In my observation the more interruptions, and also, the more frequent the use of ad hominems is in direct correlation to how irrelevant, biased, and non-factual a speakers statements are.

    A contractor builds houses - busts their butt all year working hard and makes a million dollars. Pays 39.5% federal tax. A stock investor trades stock - busts their butt all year researching and investing and makes a million dollars. Pays 20% federal tax. Varney thinks that's fair, even though in this analogy he would be the contractor, his guest is the investor, and the investor is asking to pay 39.5% instead of 20%. Nothing changes for Varney, but he still bitches. Then he'll turn around and complain that we have a growing national debt. I suppose his solution to paying off credit card debt is to get a lower paying job (which is essentially how cutting taxes to increase revenue works). I tell you, republicans make no sense to me.

    • @Colissk
      @Colissk 9 років тому +14

      I believe you're a bit misguided here.
      First, Eric did state that he wants Varney to pay higher taxes, then later back peddled to say it would be the same.
      Varney never said its fair for him to pay 39.5% and Eric to pay 20%. Listen to it again, maybe without only listening to what you want to hear.
      Also, the analogy of credit card debt doesn't work in the sense of paying it off. Republicans view the debt as a spending problem. Democrats view the debt as a revenue problem. The issue with viewing it as a revenue problem is you act like any other fool that gets a higher paying job and then spends more than you earn. Get a raise and spend more than the raise. Keep asking for more and more money while never keeping spending in check. That attitude is exactly what is screwing over many individuals. The government, especially these last two administrations, have an affinity for living beyond its means.
      Republicans, in general, want to cut back the spending into within its means.
      Also, the theory of lowering tax rates to increase revenue isn't hogwash like you would think. Lowered tax rates incentivize job creation and spending. Higher spending and more employment and more money cycling creates more revenue.
      Also, notice how someone who wants to raise taxes doesn't want to volunteer it. They only want to contribute if everyone else is. That attitude isn't one for positive change. He contradicts himself when he states he wont freely pay the taxes to allow others to free ride when the person he pointed his finger to was paying more in taxes anyway. Eric totally straw mans at the end when tries to say Varney needs to refuse government services.

    • @jumpsmcgee
      @jumpsmcgee 9 років тому +6

      A lower tax rate can actually create more revenue. It's called the laffer curve look it up. The main problem is the majority of people, especially democrats, don't understand basic economics. Also one reason why unearned tax rates (capital gains) are lower is because the majority of people that invest, invest earned money from their occupation.

    • @indycurt1
      @indycurt1 10 років тому

      petecabrina Ignorant statements like this are unfathomable to me. When someone like you makes such blanket statements, it only shows how horribly bias you yourself are. Do you not understand that? Like the left can't be "off the charts" as well? Seriously? And have you EVER watched a full day of Fox? Ever? I watch everybody, FOX, MSNBC, NBC, CNN, etc. And I do this to get everyone's opinion so that I can make an opinion of my own. Secondly, of the aforementioned stations, not ONE of them has as many opposing commentators on their shows like FOX does. NOT ONE. I can name SEVEN liberals who are constantly on the shows of FOX (and most are employed by Fox). Can you say that there are that many conservatives on any shows on the other networks? NO you can't because there are only two or 3 and those are mostly on CNN. So really, before you make yourself look so ignorant, you need to check in on reality for yourself instead of parroting with the left says all the time. And I really don't care what anyone says about Fox, because the bottom line is that they are the #1 cable news station and have been for YEARS. Their numbers beat all of the others combined. So say what you will about Fox, but it is simply out of envy and jealousy. If Fox was as bad as you and the liberals paint them, they wouldn't be on top. There is a reason why the others are at the bottom.

      Doggorunning Running for political office should be made involuntary. If you are nominated and get enough votes you will be required to represent the people for fair pay. This removes the issue of corporations and even entire industries funding political groups for their own gain. Once this happens money can be spent more wisely and funding can be cut where it needs to be, but until legal bribes are abolished this system will continue to fail.
      I'm not even going to pretend there aren't other ways to help the situation, and I'm far from an expert, but history shows that a disproportionate number of people in office are scumbags. This is because it takes a scumbag to go out of their way to put themselves in a position to make decisions on the behalf of countless others. By removing the voluntary aspect of representation and preventing campaigning we weed out nearly all of these scumbags and are represented by people who have the best interest of the *people* in mind.

My neighbor might think of something else and so on it never ends!!!!! The thing is I can see the big picture and that's this won't stop where I like it. I prefer the freedom of the individual because like the founders I understand that humans think different and have different goals, dreams, etc. We are at a turning point in our history we were a republic now we are a democracy and you are choosing to push us just one more step to the right. I for see another revolution in the making hope are you ready? Home land security has put returning veterans at the top of their list. Why? I know why cause we are one thing big government can't have, patriots. We fought freedom of the individual and we have returned to a county divided, dependent, and looking for a hand out. My friends and I are ready, keep pushing and we might have to take this government back, we have the law on our backs. The constitution is very clear, executive orders that infringe on our most basic freedoms and legislative leaders that encourage it might find that they picked the wrong side. We are a borderless country we have special groups that are exempt of the laws which I must adhere to in the military we call these “golden cows” we have mandates that we must follow but our leaders and their friends are exempt from. I think the entire argument should be about abolishing the federal income tax system and replacing with a consumption tax somewhat similar to a sales tax. A tax on consumption puts the individuals in charge of how much they want to pay in taxes. It also would eliminate the dreaded IRS : nearly all tax auditing by the government, CPA's and tax attorneys; and cheating by failure to report income. Besides, it would be far simpler and make everyone's life more pleasant. Lastly, the process of collecting tax is far more transparent than income that goes unreported in the current system.

      @JustARTificial 10 років тому +9

      Multiple issues.
      1. I assume his wife does not work, so he has 1 set of income. So with that in mind, why did he have 6 children, if he couldn't support them with 1 salary?
      2. If he has grandchildren, unless the parents are 16, are they out of work?
      3. Does the partner to his child, also not want to work?
      4. He is earning $250K+ a year. Even if $125K is taken off (fucking bullshit figures used by that moron Fox host), he is still earning LOADS MORE than the rest of the US and is before tax is even applied to THEIR TAXES! So why is he mad?
      5. He want's all of the benefits but doesn't want to pay for any of it. He's clearly mad for paying the "50%" he's already doing, so why was he not opposed to the suggestion that he should move to a 0 tax country? Obviously because he wants the government to be at his beck and call, for nothing.
      It's moronic to criminalise the populous, but even more so to put themselves at the top, receiving all the benefits, paying nothing for it all for his family of junkies...
      Simple solution to his "problems". Get his 6 kids into work. That then leaves him free to spend $125K+ on anything he wants.
      And give me a fucking break. Those 3 Fox hosts are "struggling"?! How about the unemployed, of whom would benefit from higher taxes on the rich?

That's how conservatives think, that no one is as smart as them; yet they let FAUX News, uh entertainment, lie to them over and over again, There are thousands of video on UA-cam that proves they lie like exceeding excessively, and yet their audience continues to trust and defend them. I never saw so many professing Christians carry so much hate for the poor and other people who are not like them,
      Jesus, the God they claim they believe in, loved the poor also, but they do not the work of the heart of God. They love money more than they love people. I say this as a Christian. I study the Word and seek to live that life and we are commanded to care more about people than anything on the planet. Jesus did; he died for people not for money, wealth or riches. Jesus place the absolutely highest value on mankind over the wealth of the entire universe. And he told us to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's.

      Ruth Butler Lets answer the problem
      Reward companies that balance
      shareholder profits with worker
      well-being.
      • Reserve the new lowest corporate tax
      rate for the companies that reinvest
      their gains in their workers or in legally
      organized “benefit corporations” that
      also meet new standards for fair worker
      treatment and investment.

    • @lynxdunwell701
      @lynxdunwell701 5 років тому +5

      Ruth Butler What corporate tax reform should have achieved
      - and still can - is to help stop the cycle of
      companies disinvesting in their workers in
      favor of returning more and more profits to
      shareholders.
      Since at least the 1980s10 - the era of corporate
      raiders, leveraged buyouts and aggressive, cost-
      cutting CEOs - the idea of “shareholder primacy”
      has maintained an increasingly pernicious grip
      on how companies do business - often at
      workers’ expense.

Because Jesus said if you want to be like him give away all your worldly possessions and go preach and help the poor. Shit the bible even says it's harder for a rich man to get to heaven than a camel to go through the eye of a needle. If you want all your money to your self and not pay taxes then go leave OUR country where we all put in according to what we make and start your own country and see how long you last before you'll be taxing people.

      In addition, Christ advocated people WILLINGLY giving and exercising compassion for others. This can never happen when people have money forcibly taken from them. Christ never tried to forcibly take something from others.
      I trust individuals to better use their money and do more good with it than I trust the government to do it...

Force a CEO-to-worker pay ratio, that way companies are FORCED to pay their workers a living wage, thus not having to rely on government programs. The only argument against this is the ridiculous notion that employers have a right to abuse their workers to any degree as long as it nets them another red cent in profits that go right to the CEOs BMW collection.

    That British guy annoyed me, I would've loved to hear the guest's logic and reasoning, but nope, that guy's got 6 kids and 7 grand kids. Business is what I want to do for my major in college, and if its anything like this, then it's gonna be fun.

    1:40 : "This country is facing a fiscal disaster", and the host goes "No, let's begin with me"... then he calls his taxes a "net loss", probably because he thinks police and hospitals are totally useless to him and his family (he probably delivered all the children himself, see). This guy is priceless. Me, me, me, me... why doesn't he use his money to buy an island, put himself and all his family on it, shut up and leave the rest of the country alone ?
    What I like most about this video is that it shows what happens when a country who's education system ranks terribly low on math, to the point of having caused a global financial crisis, still thinks it's number one. I can't wait for the day with the people on Fox get so bad at math they can no longer manage to broadcast on the right frequency nor set their microphone amplifiers and no one can hear their nonsense anymore. I give them 5-10 years before they go full-on "Idiocracy".

      They never say they shouldn't pay, but the amounts some people have to pay are ridiculous. Fire, police, etc. are local and state taxes. A huge portion of government spending is super wasteful. The government should spend less.

    • @TheNefastor
      @TheNefastor 9 років тому +6

      d3rkaderk4 I agree with you. I'm French by the way, but I've lived in the US. I'm familiar with taxes in both countries.
      Here's the thing, though, the USA has a military budget that is larger than that of the 12 most militarized countries after it, COMBINED. But it doesn't have the population of these 12 countries combined. That means each american pays more for the military than anyone else on Earth.
      It's a fact you'll never see anyone on CNN or FOX call for the USA to reduce its budget by 75% (which would still leave you with the capacity to turn Earth into a wasteland several times over). I know how Americans think and I'm not saying this in a critical way. Having weapons does feel nice, so having lots of weapons must feel even nicer... but then you can't complain when you have to pay high taxes !
      I mean, local police in the US has motherfricking tanks : if you want them to be properly maintained and fueled, that costs money.
      I also agree with you about how wasteful your government is. But that's the price you pay for allowing things like lobbying and never clamping down on conflicts of interest. The F-22 Raptor, for example, is 70 billion USD spent on a white elephant that's now cancelled and used as a... ground attack plane against ISIL, something the US could have done with pretty much any other warplane they already had, including a B52 loaded with JDAM's.
      I could also talk about your insane love affair with credit cards and loans, which is a subset of my initial comment on Americans being crappy at math, but we digress. I just wanted to say Americans should stop navel-gazing all the time. Your country goes to war at the drop of a hat, lets corporations make policy decisions, and then you complain about paying too many taxes. Well d'uh ! If you feel the way this Fox host does, then I believe you have that second amendment for a reason : why don't you use it instead of whining ?

    • @d3rkaderk4
      @d3rkaderk4 9 років тому

      "But that's the price you pay for allowing things like lobbying and never clamping down on conflicts of interest." I don't run the government and I really don't have a say.
      "I could also talk about your insane love affair with credit cards and loans..." I am proudly debt-free, but I agree. The problem starts with the fact that very few people are taught anything about this by their parents and in 12 years of public "schooling" you are never taught anything about finance. Our shallow culture also encourages spending beyond your means and confuses owning shiny things with real wealth.
      I have a life to live and I don't really care for throwing it away in some ill-thought out revolution.

    • @TheNefastor
      @TheNefastor 9 років тому +3

      d3rkaderk4 Actually you do run the government. You can vote, can't you ? That's what it's for. Why do you guys always vote for reps or dems ? Is it forbidden to create new parties ? Anytime there's an election I see all sorts of crazy candidates on the Daily Show, like the "rent is too damn high" guy. Vote for him. I'm pretty sure he's not in the pocket of the military-industrial complex.
      If you really can't do any of that, then the second amendment has found its purpose at long last. No one is saying every single Americans should take arms, but even if one percent did, you'd have an army 3 times larger than North Korea's, and that's a country that scares the beejesus out of your rulers.
      I'm debt-free as well, but that's not a matter of education, just logic. Don't spend what you don't have. If you want to spend more, find a way to earn more. I personally consider bank robbery to be preferable to a revolving loan, especially since that the same thing, but with the role of victim attributed to you.
      Finance isn't taught in French school except in college if you choose to study finance. By the way here college is free. Most people even make money with side jobs during their college years. If you're good enough to earn a scholarship (humble brag, I was) you can also make money without having to work a side job. If that's what Fox calls "socialism", I like it. It means I started my adult life debt-free. And I was raised by a jobless single mom, by the way.
      You say you have a life to live, and I respect that. But that implies you don't feel the issues we've discussed have a sufficient impact on your life to push you to take action. The guys at Charlie Hebdo also had a life to live, and a good one considering they were all celebrities to some extent. Paris life is very good to intellectuals with deep pockets, you know. They had been threatened and firebombed before. Yet they still felt that freedom of speech and ridiculing religion was important enough to put their lives on the line.
      Some might say theirs was an ill-thought out revolution but they have managed to rally together more world leaders than anyone ever has. Don't consider a revolution to be ill-conceived before it has even started. The only thing worse than death as a revolutionary is living in resignation.
      Charb's funeral was today. It was a joyous affair with lots of people and singing. I'll say it again : fuck you religions, we win again.

Portugal is not a selfish country, there are many corrupts, who steal money, and our country doesn't have resource to make up that.. While the other countries have nowadays more resources.. For those corrupts, don't speak about the entire country as we would be like them..

      simon199418 actually, Portugal's debt came from inept corrupt political parties' (the ones that make it to government) actions,which, besides making the whole country's economy hostage of some private corporations and banks through ruinous deals with the private sector in exchange for confy post-governing administrative positions, were further encouraged to destroy production capabilities of the country by the European Union, so that German and French interests could in turn control said production in the whole European Union, making Portugal completely dependable of foreign products and unable to balance it's commercial scale. The fall of Portugal had nothing to very few to do with taxation or social welfare.

    The way Fox news set up this interview is wrong because it was one guest against 3 hosts. He could not deliver any full point and and was constantly interrupted.
    He did manage to defend his arguments well and offered a good fight. Terrific Job there!

      A credit hour in 1979 at Michigan State University was $24.50, adjusted for inflation that is $79.23 in today dollars. One credit hour today costs $428.75. Why? State income tax revenues across the country have dropped precipitously in last 30 years, and, in turn, state funding of "state" universities has declined. The average student in 1979 could work 182 hours (a PART-TIME summer
      job) to pay for a year's tuition. In 2013, it would take 991 hours (a
      FULL-TIME job for half the year) to accomplish the same.

      Thank you for not explicitly telling me that I am "full of shit." I apologize for the late reply. I haven't been monitoring my notifications. A couple of notes--- I doubt MSU is lying about its own credit hour costs. I realize I posted the "government's" inflation calculator... but there are several you can choose from across the political spectra, and they are only a few dollars off from each other. No deviation from +/- standard error. The randalson.com reference is well-documented in its own right, so you can chase down the references there, as I did.

      David Mitchard You might be right that he won't struggle to pay for his kid's college. However, why does he have to pay more in taxes to suit your standard of fair taxation?

    • @kevg4743
      @kevg4743 6 років тому +1

      Alex Sikar What makes you the financial authority to determine who makes too much for the job they do?
      Is the cook working 2 jobs and 10 hours a day holding a college degree or even a high school diploma? Often, not always, people needing to work two jobs and too many hours weekly are in that position because of the poor decisions they have made that put them in that position. His salary is justified because that is what FOX is willing to pay him and FOX is still able make a profit. That is how that market works. If a restaurant could pay a cook more in wages and still make similar profits, the cook will be paid more. However, if the market can't support higher wages while keeping a businesses open, restaurants have no choice but to pay lower salaries to remain open.

      Yes I agree, he didn't leave them speechless. He proposed a tax system that would leave high earners a little less well off but still earning a whole lot more that the majority of people in the USA. I'm from the UK and when I was younger I tried to propose a similar route. Between the ages of 18 and 45, I (and many of my contemporaries) could have paid four times more tax and National Insurance (our version of medical insurance) than we were. The irony is we couldn't give it away! The majority of people thought we were mad! Unfortunately in older age I need all the resources I can muster. My national insurance contributions should have given me a cushion against illness and old age, but successive Governments refusal to tax a little bit more means that the money isn't there. A lot of people say 'fuck it, I'll just get some private health insurance'. The sad thing is National Insurance was meant to be exactly that so a lot of people end up paying for something twice! I can't write any more it just makes me sick!!!!
