  • Tarle fish curry | Sardine fish curry without coconut - Seafood
This is a very tasty and spicy fish curry made the Mangalorean style. We love fish. Our food is just incomplete without fish. The best way to eat sardines they say is to fry them crisp and serve it with some simple dal and rice.
Almost every alternate day we make fish curry at home. The method of making fish curry for every type of fish is different This Sardine Curry / tarli chi kadi is made with Kodampuli - Malabar Tamarind.
Kodambuli - Malabar Tamarind is a dried fruit used in curries as a souring agent. Kodampuli is soaked in water briefly and added to curries. It gives the curries a sweet sourness and its slightly smoky.
You replace this Malabar tamarind with ordinary tamarind, or raw mangoes.
Sardines / tarli fish was cheaply and easily available in Gulf as well as Bombay , but now no longer The only drawback is that, this particular fish has lot’s of thorns and should be eaten carefully and patiently. Sardins/ tarli have a lot of health benefits.
They are rich in vitamin B12 and are a great source of selenium, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, calcium and phosphorus. They contain lower levels of mercury and are safe even for pregnant women. They have a lot of cardiovascular benefits and aids in bone and joint health. They are helpful in cancer prevention, provides better eye health, and since they are packed with protein they are good for skin and hair.

Ma'am, you called 'saunf' seeds 'Annie seeds' which is wrong. Saunf is fennel not Annie (I think you meant anise seeds).

You mentioned the sardines have a lot of THORNS I’m just wondering if these sardines are growing on trees because I thought THORNS only grow on trees not found in Fish

Madam I made this curry just now. The colour of your ground masala looked yellow. But whilst plating it looked Red. My masala curry was red. Hence this query

Hi Merlyn the masala is yellow .it depends on the chilly powder. Once cooked the color changes

It was good but I did not make it spicy. Ma'am if you use Kashmiri chillies the colour should be read but you're was yellow

@@merlyncardoz1313 if kashmiri chillies are fresh then u get a nice red color. But if old then color differs. I also face such problems at times.
