As for Manny, It's ok to want it all, but defense stops you losing and goals win games, not systems of play. Identity comes from a rigid system of play. But the squad needs to have 1 to 1 replacement across the squad to maintain that through a game. Vincent Kompany took Burnley up playing a system of play, took them down with the same system of play, and is playing that same system successfully at Bayern. The only difference is the players. their ability to stick to a system, and the level of player for the division/system. Your squad to my eye looks to be about as good as a fully fit second season Forest squad, but with a better keeper. So we ended up with 32 points last season. The squad you have doesn't look mid table to me. But you will improve through recruitment. FFP is the restricting factor now (For everyone since it favours the richest and most successful teams). Cooper is a world cup winner. Difficult with any age group. Cooper took Swansea to the play offs twice with no money. Came to Forest when we were adrift at the bottom of the championship, and with loanees and trainees took us through the play offs to the prem. Had to juggle any number of new players in the first season, and another 10 or so the second season of mixed quality. He never got a pre season with most of those new players so had to do it on the run, and at no point had a coherent squad littered with quality. The season he got sacked we were 4 games in before a new player was added to the team line up. He had a weak back line. Turner was good shot stopper but always liable to error, Vlachadimos barely came off of his line, so no quality in goal. Worrall was always liable to make mistakes. Sangare failed to perform on arrival (Injured), and both Callum Hudson Odoi, and Taiwo Awoniyi became injured. Couldn't defend without error, thin in midfield, and a mismatched strike force. MGW had to be played out of position and Elanga was played on the wrong side to normal, to try to feed Wood from the wings. He lost support of ownership. He got sacked. When Nuno arrived Callum Hudson Odoi recovered. So both MGW and Elanga were able to be played correctly. He gave every player an even chance and still ended up fielding Coopers team selections in the early games. In the window he got a goalkeeper upgrade, and a couple of support attacking players in Ribeiro and Reyna. What most Cooper haters ignore is that with the Cooper squad, and upgrades, he started with a two match bounce, but then proceded to have the team performing worse results wise than Cooper, until a late flurry of good results raised his point/game to above that of Cooper. With Support from ownership I fancy that Cooper would still have kept us up. We'll never know of course. Why are we better this season? Nuno? I would say that we added quality in the window. Plugged the leaky defense, bought a second decent Keeper, bought support on the wings and in midfield. We brought in some quality, and we did it early. Nuno got a pre season. Cooper will save you, and if someone gives him time and buys him the right players he'll take you up and on. And don't forget that it's the players who cross the line, not the manager. Against us you lost because of errors at the back. Without those you;d have beat us. I could say more but I do wish You guys, all fans and connections at Leicester, the team and Steve Cooper well for the rest of the season and onward. Be well everyone. And as for transfers you looked good first half with Coopers signings, and at a price you could afford bearing in mind PSR. Cooper plays with what he's got and Ruud is playing the players as they wish to play. You have to defend (not lose) first, win second and play with flair third. Cooper was doing that. Not pretty but effective. As for Coopers ability look again above at my comments on Kompany...you CAN only play with what you've got. All very sad so I can only reiterate my wishing everyone well for the rest of the season.
I knew we were going to lose this game, and it’s all because Ruud didn’t play Okoli, one of our top center-backs. You can really see the difference when he’s not on the field. Instead, we have Vestergaard, who can’t run at all-he’s like a statue out there and struggles with set pieces. And then there's Wout Faes, who might look decent against Championship teams, but put him in the Premier League, and he’s completely out of his depth! I’ve been saying this to everyone for ages, but they just don’t get it, and neither does the manager. When the hell is Ruud going to give Okoli a chance? It’s infuriating!
I'm pretty optimistic usually but like was said Palace looked ordinary. If we were to stay up who can you actually say we finish above? It's 2 from 4 of us, Everton, Wolves and Ipswich.
As a palace fan you should of kept cooper and gone defensive and tried to stay up that way Ruud is way to open and will get you relegated playing like that what happened to the centre back okoli?? I think it is he looked good against us in the first game
