A great video, as always, very interesting. Elko is a fascinating town. I love the tree-lined streets, some lovely homes, and the colours on the murals are gorgeous. Thank you so much, Joe and Nic.😊💚
I currently live in Reno. Not bad but looking to make my move when I retire. I will definitely look into Elko. Looks really nice. Thanks take care and enjoy 🎉
105 Oak is going for $495,000. This house is gorgeous too. You sure go to some nice areas. There's something special about these old homes. They have a lot of character. This place reminds me of an old movie. I would love to decorate some of these homes. You guys have a great evening. God bless.
The houses are not worth the exorbitant prices out here. Lived here a year and a half and it’s only worth it if you grew up here or work for the mines.
I love the murals and the town of Elko. The Classical Revival courthouse is a beauty! I appreciate you explaining shotgun houses in a prior video. They are cool! Very nice homes. Looking forward to Idaho. Have a great weekend!
I lived on Oak for 4 yrs next to the house for sale, 1986-90. Worked at Newmont Gold. Loved the Ruby Mts and Ruby Marshes, large bird migratory rt. One year the Monarch Butterflies migrated thru town with a lot of Hummingbirds. Nice town, one of the best in my mining career.
Thank you for touring our town. I moved here from California over 2 years ago and I love our small town. Also thanks for the facts about our town which I didn't know
I'd LOVE to try that Basque restaurant! I've had lamb many times only because my uncle always sheep on his New England farm and the kids raised them to show in 4-H. The lamb looked fantastic and the trout and the cabbage soup looked great and that's coming from someone who makes a mean pot of cabbage soup herself LOL. I'm glad you liked it. I've never been to a Basque restaurant but I'll have to Google if there are any around here.
Mint Jelly is usually served with lamb, NOT sure why but i remember when I was young at my family's house we always had the mint jelly with the lamb. And I LOVE Lamb!
And yet another interesting video. I look forward to your jaunts. It is amazing the prices of your meals in different towns, even without the alcohol. The food always looks great.
Morning Joe , another wonderful video! Love listening between the lines in this reminiscing video! 105 Oak ,$495,000 just beautiful inside! Thank you again ! Take care and drive safe and keep asking “ what do you guys think!” !
Another great video. I wish you had shown a brothel menu. I am interested in seeing what inflation has done to the diddling business. If they offered a nice buffet lunch after your visit I might be willing to catch a greyhound bus and enjoy some of what Nevada has to offer. Be safe going to Utah- Sincerely , Jim Thornton
We stayed at the Ramada and ate at the Star. Could not believe how much food came out. There was a party next to us and a young lady announced she was pregnant to her family. It was so American. Like It’s A Wonderful Life. I’m from the Bay Area so we don’t really get that here. And yes, a massive amount of food.
Wow is all I can say! That Family Style Basque Food restaurant-@$64. what a deal ! Luv your humour Joe with Mona's or Moan-ah. lol I've never seen a red light district. I don't know why I expected to see flower pots on window sills, with lace curtains & pretty colours. (I'm wierd that way i guess) Really enjoyed seeing so many patrons wearing a cowboy hat..so cool. Thank you for another awesome vid Joe & Nicole.
Lamoille Canyon up in the Ruby Mountains is worth checking out, especially in the summer, it’s cooler up there. We have a couple of acres out by Ryndon, the north fork of the Humboldt River flows right through the corner of the property. We like to go down there and camp for a week when we can.
I just got back from a trip to Boise Idaho, spent nights in cascade idaho and payette idaho as well as star idaho. All 4 of those towns/cities are great i think you guys would enjoy!
Mona's was the inspiration for the name of Mona Ramsey in the Tales of the City books by Armistead Maupin. Her grandmother was also named Mona and ran a brothel in Nevada (though in the book it was located outside Winnemuca)
At 6:21--a nice big raven is as good as a cat in my book 🙂 For me, the best thing about Elko is actually about 20 miles away--Lamoille Canyon, which is just spectacular (biggest beaver dam I ever saw was there). Looking over the menu at The Star, Mountain Trout would have been my pick as well--I'm always on the lookout for trout when I'm traveling in the west. Good choice Nic!
Foyr brothels, dancing and diddling. Sounds like a city of forbidden sin to me. But overall, it appeared to be a rather nice looking town. Some of the homes were absolutely amazing and surely expensive. Will be waiting for the next video. Until then stay safe and God bless. Steve in Oklahoma
Hey Joe and Nicole! Great video! The restaurant food looked awesome. Joe no red light district 4 u ! U have a wonderful wife and she saves turtles 🐢! And thats very cool! Stay safe in ur travels
Haven been there in over 50 years but Star Boardinghouse, was one of the most excellent eating places in Nevada, at the time it was still an active boardinghouse. At 5:00pm the dinner bell was rung...My absolute favorite was lamb chops, rare. Old fella commented me one time, Mr you sure know how to eat lamb, as I’m gnawing on the bone. Fond memories ... Seems the dinner price was around $6-7, only item I saw missing was a plate of green onions, peppers and salami. Incidentally at that time, the railroad ran through the area that is now the large parking lot.
@@rachelgr8584 That really comes as a surprise!...Love it!...At that time the men were sheep herders mostly...We would drive from Sacramento just to have dinner in the 60’&70’s, Bing Crosby and Slim Pickens we’re frequent guests...A friend of mine was there some years back, told me a picture of my dad hangs on the wall, Empire Mine, 1936.
@NBZW That's awesome. I would have loved to of been around when Bing Crosby frequented Elko. He is in one of the murals on Idaho Street. I'll look for your dad's pic next time I'm at the star
@@rachelgr8584 Would usually stay a couple of days, go to Lamoille Canyon, just bum around, have dinner at the Star, try something different one nite but always had the lamb chops, rare the next. One time there was a large family seated, 10/12 folks, grandfather at the head of table small boy maybe 4/5 seated at the other end. People are chatting away, kid takes a chunk of bread and throws it at grandpaw, bread lands square in his soup, all goes silent, grandpaw sets the bread aside adds a bit more soup to his bowel and didn’t miss a lick. About 1968, while Highway 40 was the main East-West route, parked outside the Star was a nearly new Chrysler Imperial, back seats removed,in there place were 4 beautiful ewes, that was Nevada. Just find the most handsome fella in the photo with a big smile, that’s my Dad 😉
A DJ who used to be on here in Phoenix is from Elko. He seemed really happy to have made it out of Elko. Though he did admit to losing his virginity in one of the town’s brothels.
:) WOW! Thanks MUCH for sharing! May have to visit one day and bring company to help eat all that FOOD! Looked SO GOOD :) ALL the BEST and Safe Travels! Cheers from Left Coast!! :)
When my cousin came over to visit from the US, he'd never eaten lamb in his life before. Here in the UK, it's really popular, and in fact it's my favourite meat, the flavour is incredible. If anyone from the US reads this and has never tried lamb, and is an omnivore, you should really look out for it. Properly cooked it is so succulent, tender and that incredible flavour. :)
Yeah babe! That's the word:" properly cooked" but because of the vast land in America from Alaska to Argentina, to rise cattle it's the best choice. People left behind the European ways for something more practical and profitable! 😮😢😊
Nic, love your videos and I'm a fan. A suggestion, consider using a bass filter that will take the low rumble noise out of your car engine as you drive so our subwoofers and headphones don't overload us with low bass rumble. Thanks!
Hi Joe and Nicky that restaurant was awesome. never had Lamb. Looked good. Thanks for the video I might like to live there but it's 6 hours north from the Vegas Drag Strip. Long drive. I google it and it looks like the town is big on racing. In the winter I wonder how much Snow they get? No cats found.
Nicole's pretty green nails go good with that mint. I never ate lamb in my life. That was a lot of food. I want to go to Elko, NV. now, to the "Red light" district.
Dancing and Diddling? Oh my! I'm not interested in gambling or going to brothels(No!) but the town looks really nice. Nice courthouse, nice murals. The house at 105 Oak is going for $495,000. "Built in 1929 by Nevada Supreme Court Justice Milton Badt, this historic Elko home was designed to resemble the Badt's honeymoon cottage in England." It's really lovely and what a great neighborhood! Looks like, some of those houses in the hills are going from over 500k to about 800k. Most in the 600-700 range, if I'm looking at it correctly. Land is expensive. I saw 7.39 acres going for 650k and one with 18+ acres going for .1.55 mil.

9:48. Elko, and Nevada in general, since it is basically desert, is not known for its seafood. But you can definitely get Crabs at Mona's.
Very funny!! Good sense of humour Bob! 😂
