    BlackScoutSurvival PREPAREDMIND101 BlackOwlOutdoors You guys were the first three channels I listened to when it came to outdoor and urban survival information. Love that there is collaboration between this community. I look forward to everything you all post in the future and thank you so much for all the advice you have already given us.

      Wasn't me filming. Besides, I have a "Don't touch the @#%&! zoom!!" rule when I have a cameraman. I prefer they use their feet.

      PREPAREDMIND101 I'd love to! Not sure when I will be out your way though. You're in Ohio, right? I'll need to see how my frequent flyer miles are looking. Regardless, we should definitely hook up at Shot Show 2016 though!

      You don't need to be with me. Just film something you want my audience to see to give them a taste of your channel and send me the raw file through Google Drive.

    Excellent take on on the "get home bag" kit. I like watching these from time to time to keep me centered on what's important. I have a tendency to go overboard.
    This is a great kit system Jack and I like the acronym. It's certainly easy to remember and apply.
    Time to go haul the bag out of my truck and go through it....

    good video, that's a bare bones get home kit. seems easy to carry, hard to fuck up with the extra bit of redundancy with some of the items, definitely a fan.

  • @charleslarson3152
    @charleslarson3152 9 років тому +1

    Well done Sir! All items depending where one lives are good to have. One thing that you did not mention was food. Light weight food. Very light weight....such as a package of Ramon noodles and some beef jerky to prepare in your metal Canteen. (or your canteen cup) As the master himself (Dave Canterbury) has demonstrated the jerky will rehydrate when tossed into the heated broth. In my get home bag, I have these items along with a once again light weight and small folding Esbit "stove" with 4 fire cubes srored inside. I have used this unit in an urban scenario where building a wood camp fire is rather impractable. Or if you want to earn your man card, pack along some Spam Singles which can be eaten without heating or any use of water. And as one viewer mentioned....once again, some toilet paper. (When ya gotta go, ya gotta go!! >;) Again, useful info for those who are just starting out and for those who have neglected to build a get home kit.

    • @BlackScoutSurvival
      @BlackScoutSurvival 9 років тому

      BACK HOME is for building a survival kit. I said that it "could" be used as a foundation for bug out bags and get home bags. Implying that you may add items if you decide to use it as a foundation. But essentially it is a survival kit system with a relevant acronym to the situation

    • @charleslarson3152
      @charleslarson3152 9 років тому

      BlackScoutSurvival Indeed Sir!! Indeed. The very few items that I added, are all light weight and simply nice to have without any real added burden. I really liked your concept. When you included the ferro rods, it just seemd to me that some light weight food was in order and a non firewood option for heat. I carry the plastic GI canteen which sits in the metal GI canteen cup which I haved used as my cooking device. Works well as I'm sure more than understand. All in all, as I stated...well done!! You just might have saved somone's life.

    Great instructional video Jack! My son and I have been a subscriber of yours for some time now. Yet having a prepared mind (see how I slipped that in there Chris ;) AND edc or emergency kit in a worse case scenario to get you back home or to safety is very essential. Thanks for the building blocks!

    Hello guys. Congatulations on both of the channels. Quick question here if you don't mind. What model of watch is Jack wearing and how should we look up the long distance mirror shown. Cheers.

    • @BlackScoutSurvival
      @BlackScoutSurvival 9 років тому

      The watch is military suunto core. The signal mirror is a battle systems version but coghlans also sells a glass version. You can also get the military kind as well.

    Chris, shows humility to be able to bring different people on to your channel. Thanks for the diversity and don't let the trolls get ya.

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  9 років тому

      I don't know that it's really humility....I recognize missing niches in things, and I'm a victim of my own success as a reviewer. i
      I never planned on doing mostly reviews, it just feel into place that way because numbers don't lie and that's what people watched. Nobody else does it. Maybe they think it'll take away from their viewers or something. Besides, there is always a karmic return in helping others.

    It's not too late to change 'Emergency Signal' to 'Emergency First Aid'...since you already have the mirror/compass.

    • @BlackScoutSurvival
      @BlackScoutSurvival 9 років тому

      Once you spend a fair amount of time in the woods you will understand that you want dedicated first aid items as well as dedicated signaling. First aid and survival kits in my opinion are two separate groups. When you try and combine them people tend to cut weight to save space and may miss critical items. As far as a compass its average as a signaling mirror. Because it is acrylic. Also it is only useful during the day time. I would want to get myself out of the survival situation using dedicated signaling devices. Like whistles, flares, glass mirrors with sighting lens. Hope that helps.
