+BlackScoutSurvival Great videos! I'm a subscriber to both yours and this channel! What shirt were you wearing in the video?
+BlackScoutSurvival saw the pic of Jack and just thought it was his channel then Lily popped up lol.....very cool i really like seeing people on other peoples channels :)
+BlackScoutSurvival oh and great video lol ATB Boeal
+Alexis DeSilva welcome to the bush....i would go with a multi tool and and a good knife and a ferro rod + a lighter but remember no need to buy all at one time and if you have not already check out Dave Canterbury as well has many videos The Woodsman School and Guide Service.....just my 2 cents have fun stay safe
Ahh, pine gum! Hadn't heard that before, great tip 🌞 Thank you Scott and Lilly 🌞🌞🌞
Holy cow Lilly - 185,000 subs?! Hope you're filming the "200,000 subs video". :) Great job.
+PhatKid68 Maybe Lilly should go ahead and start on it, since she will be at that point before the end of the month.
Big fan of both Lilly and Jack's channels. Alot of useful information given from both parties.
I love both you and Black Scout Survival. Both of you always give great tips!!! Thanks for the video!!!! I am getting MUCH better at hand drilling a coal. It took me forever to learn, but because of a video like this, I realized I was using the wrong kind of wood and the wrong kind of tinder to get my fires going. Once I changed, my success rate dramatically improved.
Lilly you said there would be chances, and for the better, these last two video's are outstanding., Well done Lilly, Cheers.
Thanks Blackscoutsurvival.
Fantastic hand drill tutorial. Thanks for the heads up on Black Scout's page. He seems like a good instructor.
I love the way you started the fire using the hand drill technique and to be sure I have it correct I downloaded this video to train with later. I want to thank you so much for showing us how to start a fire this way. I was in the Air Force and the instructor where I was trained showed us how to start fires, but didn't use this technique, but did show us the bow drill and I watched a Marine Corps video where their instructors used the same one I was trained on and now that I know this one I am ready to survive in the forest since that is what we have here in Arkansas. Thanks so much for sharing this information and I hope you have a Blessed new week.
Great video. Good to see you pulling in guest stars on your show. Amazing demonstration.
Interesting how the internet has decreased the distance between people. One living in Austria and the other leaving in what I guess is the American South. All thanks to their passion for a pass time.
Hhhhhjjjjjijjjjjjhhhjuuuuuuuuuiiii
I love these guest videos! You always have nice people aboard who have great things to share.
Best demo/explanation I've seen for doing it with your hands, thanks. Thanks you guys.
i have been a subscriber to your channel for a long time. It's good to see you working with other UA-camrs. this has to be one of the better bow drill videos I've seen on UA-cam. it really shows the finer details in Bow drill fire making. thanks for the video best wishes to you and keep making good videos.
You mentioning the RPMs of small vs large sticks reminded me of something. If you are making a bow drill (I know, not the subject of this video) you can take a larger stick and use your knife to put a shallow notch/depression about 1.5 inches wide around the circumference of the stick where your cordage goes. This accomplishes two things: first, it helps keep your bow string from sliding up and down the drill and, second, it increases your RPMs by making the section your bow turns smaller while retaining the greater surface area of the large drill. More surface are equals more friction and that combined with greater speed gives you faster fires with less effort. You can do the same thing with the hand drill by carving away the wood from about 2 inches above the contact point of the drill and the base so that the part your hands come in contact with is narrower.
Jack is in my Top 5 to learn from on UA-cam and is an American Hero as well ! Great Job as always Lily For Teaching the Masses !,,,,Spook
This is really cool to see Black Scout on Lilly's channel.... Learned a lot from you both....
Awesome job! Love Black Scout. They've been a big inspiration for me. - Rogue
I really enjoy you two collaborating on a video. Just to add my two cents. I would say conditioning your hands to the friction from the spindle is a good place to start. The more you condition your hands, the less chance you will stop drilling because of the pain. Yes, I said pain. When starting hand drilling you will develop blisters pretty quickly. I recommend starting slow, like 5 minutes the first day. Then take a day off. Then do 10 minutes. And increase your time from there. That way your hands will get accustomed to the process of drilling. This bushcraft skill takes time and patience.
Wow! You both have produced some of the best survival videos! Thank you for this one!
Great video. Learned alot. Been subbed to both a long time
Great instructional video!
Nice...thanks Lilly for including this video and channel.
Super, can't wait to see a video of you doing this.
Great video on the hand drill! ! Black Scout Survival has just been subbed 👍
My brother, if you take a 6 to 8 inch piece of paracord or a little longer, with a loop in both ends, and drape it over the top end of your spindle, then you can put each thumb in the loops, will not let your hands slide or work down your stick. Works wonderful, but have to confess, I saw it demonstrated online and it is not my idea. Makes the job ten times more efficient and not so bad on your hands.
Nice one, very handy to know so thanks for that Lilly.
thanks for the info fine job!!!
I watch BSS all the time, Thanks Lilly!
Well Lilly, you've learned your lessons well! Your technique is just like Black Scout Survival. Great video.
great video like always. glad to see u guys working with each other. that's how it should be take care
Love you're videos! And your bug out camp gave me inspiration to make my own (sorry my bad english)
nice video, very informative
nice video.
thanks lilly and black scout survival.
Great tips, I've got try it now. Lol. Danke, Tschüss
I realized my mistake as soon as I read my message...bowdrill & handdrill r basically the same technique only the assistance of the bow & mandrel(skateboard wheel). Lilly should make a handdrill video because she can do it. Even though she's said she doesn't like that method. Rock the videos with Dax! She's so skilled...Mike may b her teacher & he's excellent b the survival skills.
awesome thx
Nice post I have sub of his channel he pretty darn good. I see where someone said your almost at 200,000 great.
Good tips. my goal this year is to make fire with a hand drill and to identify the best wood for fire making in my area. (San Francisco)
Lilly, are you still planning a trip to the States? That would be fun to watch your adventures here. Thanks
Well done. Your a good teacher/instructor. Stephen, Ohio
i love your videos lilly
why would anyone give this a thumbs down? Great video
Thanks lilly
nice. but i'd go find a skateboard or rollerskates and make a bow. but great for the finer points, this vid is
Excellent 👌
great video
Hand drill is the toughest!!!
Very cool
large drill = longer rotation = more chance of getting and plank thickness hand little finger =
Multitul in the forest - not on Feng Shui))) Good video. But I think, bow drill, a more important skill. Because there is always a piece of rope, parachute cord or string from the boot. Hand Drill is the Stone Age, the Bow Drill - for the elite)))
Where in Austria is his accent from, the southern part?
he's from USA
+Derrick S Tran lol, obviously.
+MoreAmerican well you asked where in Austria?
+Derrick S Tran *sigh*
Yes, this is basically humor 101.

Tolles Video !!!
+Highland Wanderer clawgear milvago
Excellent video. I'll def check out your channel.
Where is that accent from, southern Austria? :-o
Lilly how close are you to Graz?
If I may ask a question, roughly how many minutes from beginning to spin spindle to actual ember ?
1-2 minutes
Thank you for answering my question. Very interesting. I will have to practice this more in depth. I admit with there being several other ways, say bow drill or fire steel and flint and steel ect...The hand drill is as primitive as you can get.
Lilly's Englisch ist so ausgezeichnet. Wow!
I really like your videos just sub👍🏻👏😂
What brand is that multitool?
+Perceval2thousand I believe it is a leatherman wave
+Survival Lilly yes. It's a leatherman wave

where are his pants at

U have already shown Ur skills with a handdrill... didn't U use a skateboard wheel? Appreciate all the survival skills videos.. but he's not got a Dax!!
That was a bow drill actually.
But I agree I doesn't feel right watching a video by Lilly without Dax in it. :)
Can we stop pretending that fire drills or bow drills are anything to do with survival ordeals. You said yourself they are complex. You also need a knife. If you went to the bother of bringing and carrying a knife why not bring a lighter. You can carry a lighter on a plane and in public. In a survival ordeal you also don't want to be wearing camouflage. You want to be found. If you are a survival channel start being realistic. Fire by friction is a fun hobby - nothing more.
+andyisyoda what if the lighter broke ?
Friction fire techniques are additional survival tools. We can allow that they are a last resort. If you have better means of making a fire then of course you use those. But in order to develop the skill of friction fire you have to practice it when you don't need it, when you aren't reliant on it. Hopefully if you ever are in a survival situation you have a fire steel and a knife and other items to help you. But it's useful to know how to do more with less.
+dajoker51 you haven't thought this through. You used a knife to make the drill. If you are bringing a knife then why not just bring a fire steel. I am a survival instructor. Our courses feature realistic skills for real ordeals. Fire by friction is a nice hobby - nothing more.
+Pim Dankers you used a knife to make the drill. What if that broke? If you are bringing a knife why not bring a flint n steel or lighter. And, I've never had a lighter break. Even empty they still spark. Lilly needs to decide on what her channel is - realistic survival advice or messing about with bushcraft hippy crap.
+andyisyoda Learn the more difficult task first . Use the easiest (lighter) , if that does not work , than go down the line . Always have a backup.
