Another great video and I particularly liked all the “who cares!” You see a lot of responses in this hobby that essentially say “do it perfect or don’t do it at all”, but sometimes that extra effort to reach perfection is far from worth it and “very good” is good enough.
Awesome video, love “All-for-reef” 26g tank, Added a kalkwasser reactor for my Alk, was going great for a month, ph 8.3 alk 10.5 but then the Alk started climbing 12.5 so I shut down the reactor and started small water changes until levels got back, now i set my ph meter to 8.0, it raises during the day to 8.3 then stays at 8.0 at night with less reactor use. I still do 20% water changes once a week, sometimes 2 weeks, depending on what the corals look like.
Such a quality series Matthew!! On my 4th month, got MAD coral growth across the board atm. 👍 Owe this to following your series. Hanna checkers, all for reef (once sps were added) and 1 single doser Stability is key people, corals don't like swings 👍
Dude I want this guy to make me a build list for a Red Sea Reefer Deluxe XL 300 65 gallon system ? It’ll be my first salt water tank and I’m excited to get into it !
I have a refractomer and a Hanna handheld checket and I've never experienced any deviation in them. I do calibrate them every month and a half or so with hardly any drift, perhaps you got a bad unit?
hello from miami , FL amazing videos; once again i had learn so much over the last videos,. thanks( if my dkh is at 9.2 and my ph keep floated between 7.7 to 7.9? i keep using aquavittro balances. i install co2 scrubber but no luck?
Most additives that will raise your pH will also raise your alkalinity. That said, there are still some options for increasing your pH. Check this video out for 5 ways to increase your pH: ua-cam.com/video/OhZMRuEgXrs/v-deo.html
My PH during waking hours fluctuates between 8.1 - 8.3. While I have been on vacation during the last two weeks my PH fluctuates between 8.33 - 8.42 when there are no humans creating all the CO2.
With five adults and four large dogs, I found opening a window or door near my fish tanks raised the PH. That led me to running a hose through a window and connecting that hose to air inlet on my skimmer. The skimmer is now drawing fresh air from outside the house.
@@oiseaufeu I cut a piece of wood to fit inside the window frame. I wrapped the edges of the wood with foam insulation. I drilled a hole in the wood the same size as the rubber hose. I then closed the window on the wood, poked the hose through the hose and connected the other end of the hose to the air inlet of my skimmer. Window is closed but I am drawing fresh air into the skimmer.
Biocube 32: Ca is at 450 and Mg at 1400, dKH 7.3 soooooo I have been dosing to raise dKH but it just won't come up to even 8. Thanks to this video I will just back off and let dKH hang out around 7. Edit: I have a freshwater planted tank with CO2 bubbling, located across the room from the reef tank. The CO2 might be the dKH killer??
I need help, my tank keeps getting warm and then all of a sudden it’s cold 10 minutes later, then it’s warm again an hour later, and then cold again, how do I keep the temperature? I’ve got a heater that was provided from the manufacturer with the tank, so I don’t think the heater is unfit for use, so I don’t know what to do? Any help appreciated
get a heater controller mate, run it with titanium heater and set to temp. sounds like faulty heater or the thermostat is slow, meaning too warm / cold.
while I use all for reef too, the consumption level will change, so keep testing and adjust accordingly and take a few days for it to settle before changing 👍
Usually I appreciate these. But the whole "who cares" part? You lost me there... It's fine to say beginners husbandry and best practices can have flexibility. That being far less than perfect is more than acceptable, and anyone can be very successful with "just good enough" in a myriad of areas. As most tanks are a sheltered and isolated environment without many of the natural stressors which would cripple coral under the same conditions in the ocean. For example, You can grow aquacultured coral at 7.8 pH. That same condition in a natural reef would likely lead to collapse. But, if the attitude is "who cares", this could have been a 15 second video: just say dKH can be between 8-12, and that range is considered to be "good enough" by todays standards. However understanding how something functions, is important. That desire for understanding is why someone would watch a 30-40 part plus video series. For me, I have to understand the underlying concept, to realize the weight of a topic. To discern its important, and either invest my time and effort, or prioritize something else. So if your going to teach: explain the concept or skip it entirely.
I resent BRS these days, bought out Marine Depot now many of the products I prefer are gone, shipping takes forever and we get this poser mockery of the hobby 😼
He’s so funny and entertaining! Makes it easy to understand

Nice video with lots of info 👌👌
Great job!

Nice video as always, can you do a video on best salinity testers since Hanna (hand held) tester gives all sort of readings even after calibration.
milwaukee MA887 mate!! Great bit of kit
Calibrated Refractometer not good enough?
@@ManiacalMangoes effort, I'm old and eyes are bad from rinsing too many games.
Hanna checkers and milwaukee mean no eyeballing colours or lines 😂

My dkh is 11 but couldn’t get my ph higher then 7.8 till I found co2 scrubber and brightwell boost ph+ that doesn’t increase anything in the tank

What would you do it in a temperate climate? I don't feel comfortable opening my window if it's super cold outside.

@@strat1960s That's cool to know. A bit too complicated for me to do.

Great video very informative But the truth is most beginners aren't going to test that much anyway Personally I stick with water changes weekly
What salt you like useing ?
Matthew usually uses Red Sea Coral Pro salt mix. At BRS, we use the Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt 🙂
where is the sheet?
Is this the one you're looking for?

I can't seem to raise my dkh from 5.5-6 :'(
Gah where can I get the sheets?
I stopped testing.... I let my Mastertronic do it lol. I will never look back.
You wanted high Dkh likely because you saw the BRS Video where they proved high kh gave faster growth
Set up all for reef on an auto doser and maintain 9dkh. Done.

Great vid but Fish health is the most important to me ha
If your calcium is high you will not be able to raise you alk just fyi. Or if your mag is super low
