You do awesome videos mate, but I really wish you'd do some more 'advanced' stuff. Your knowledge is very valuable, and you have a lot more of it than more people. Some of these basic chemistry topics already have a lot of resources to learn from...I think you can offer a unique source of advanced information though :D Great vids though...
I went back to API test kits because I was conflicted about how and where to draw the fluid to. Also different kits fluids fill the syringe differently. I am open to testing with these types of kits armed with this detailed info. Thanks!
In a sense it is irrelevant where the fluid goes to, the important bit is that the rubber piston moved from the zero mark to the 1ml mark, as this means the displacement is precisely 1ml, so that you know that when the top of the piston is on the 1.0ml mark, you can refer back to the precisely how much has been dispensed. I hope that makes sense. I’ve seen loads of people get confused and wrongly worry about where the liquid is.
What do you think of the Hanna testers I know they can be $$ but if it makes things easier to test and read then most likely I would test more. For me if it is easy and works I would test more frequently
I have a problem with my all dropping at night. I don’t know the correct way to fix it so I try to correct it every morning. Should I dose soda ash at night?
My test kit came with pictures that show your supposed to draw fluid without tip, put tip on, inject fluid back into container, then redraw and you will have fluid at the 9.6 mark or 9.5 with tip on. I don’t know if this is correct and they really need to clarify how to properly use the test in my opinion. Edit: I just tested using the method shown in video, had same results. I guess the pictures I mentioned just explain a different way of coming to same measurements. I guess this is a way to double check if your testing right.
Try use Aquaforest component 1+2+3+ to buff every elements equally. My Magnesium increase from 1340-1410, calcium 380-420 and alk from 8.0-9.3 over 4 day of dosing little amount
Noveske O2369 do you use mph or km/h when driving? What is better? Doesn’t matter what you measure it in. 95% of hobbyists use dkh. Probably because it’s a low numerical value with enough precision for our uses in dosing/monitoring coral growth.
chemistry is such a tricky balance is a wonder how we managed before all the science became clear. .I found that a drop in ALK usually reflects a drop in Mg
Than, I'm having a problem with my acanthastrea lordhowensis frag. The tissue is receding and exposing skeleton. I have been asking around on the local reef forums and they all have said that an ALK level above 9 can be dangerous for these corals. My alkalinity is at 10.4 Dkh and I'm doing water changes with Red Sea coral Pro salt which has a default ALK of 11 Dkh. My question is what would you recommend doing to lower my alkalinity levels? Everything I have seen is how to raise ALK or keep it stable. I understand you are busy but any help is greatly appreciated!
And why i haven't seen before. Today i've checked my KH, Calcium & magnesium via salifert and found out that they are very low. So now i realize that i didn't consider the amount of liquid that hold this pink plaatic tip 🤦♂️.
thanks Than for your videos helping us simpletons like me understand these issues. I'm quite new to reefing and I need all the help I can get. God bless
Again, thanks for the in depth explanation. I'm still some way from truly understanding it all but im getting there.
Mt T !!! You are on a roll ....Keep it coming .... SUPERBBBBBB Video as usual with is a norm from you now !!!
I’m really enjoying your narration and superb cinematography - thanks
I would love to hear your thoughts on ocean acidification in the wild
Have you ever tried the Hanna digital tester colorimeter? It works wonders for me. It helps lessen user error and gives you a straight number.
Great video Than and thank you for this series.
What acan is that at 5:08 than ? I have it and I just what to know what it is .
That acan bowerbanki is so nice!

Thank you for explaining all this for us is so much listen to you explain it than troll all those awful forums 🤗🤗
Great video, do you have a video that talks about how you deal with Nitrates and Phosphates? Do you carbon dos or use GFO?

Can't keep alkalinity and magnesium up in this 65 gallon mostly lps tank. Please advise a good supplement I can manually dose myself each day
Random question here, but what is the name of the coral shown at the end of the video at time stamp 5:59?
It's an Acan. Probably an echinata.

Great videos! I actually just bought these same test!

Great explanations
How do I get my alkalinity down I did 50% water change an it's still high. I'm totally new to this any help is welcome
You had 5.5 left in the syringe so are you supposed to measure amount used ? 4.5 ? You measured 5.5 in the video. Am I wrong ?
amount left
Also do you use ppm or DKH what's the better of the two and why use one over the other.
Noveske O2369 do you use mph or km/h when driving? What is better?

Once again great video! Keep it up!
my alkalinity was 8.9 on Saturday, i added my first soft corals then by Wednesday it was 7.7. Is there any explanation or advice anyone can give?
great info
My test says my all is 15… is that too high? If so what should I do?
Lovin the bike race music

I believe if you alk is low , your cal is low..
Janet Diaz no its actually the opposite
ohh, ok .

I use the Neptune Apex Trident system to monitor my Alkalinity, Calcium & Magnesium. I manually test Phosphate daily.
when you say “acid” i’m assuming these are hydrogen ions?
Thanks for sharing.
what do you do about high alk? I'm currently at 10.9 and trying to aim for 9.
Brgyourownbombs I was told to check mag levels and don't dose anything till mag levels are around 1350
brian tatgenhorst my mag hovers around 1350 +/- 25
Brgyourownbombs brs just put a video on this subject
thanks Than for your videos helping us simpletons like me understand these issues. I'm quite new to reefing and I need all the help I can get. God bless
new vid. yay
Finally make more
Wow
thats a bad ass bowerbanki
Than natural seawater is 7 dkh
You are right. It's higher in some places, but closer to 7 than 8 or 9.
