The media and fans alike were basically all on Tua. 90% of people were for Tua over Herbert. 2) The idea that Tua starting his rookie year was a good thing. He was still recovering from an injury and IMO, that season would have been better spent with him learning from Fitz on the bench.
Exactly. People speak well of Herbert now, that he has demonstrated quality in the professionals. But when he was at Oregon, scouts didn't give him good analysis. For the record, the two times Tua was pulled and Fitzpatrick was put in, Fitz is 1 - 1: the first game Fitzpatrick didn't have better results than Tua AND threw a GAME LOSING pick in the endzone. . . The same pass and route he threw interceptions in the previous three loses. He didn't do much better in the Raiders game either; people are over hyping that ONE PASS. As a Pats fan who watches a lot of the AFC East, you see over the years how these high draft picks add up. The Pats were at or near the bottom of the draft for pretty much 2 decades, and in the last 13 years haven't drafted a great offensive player. But the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills have been near the top of the draft that whole time and have been slowly building up teams full of great 1st round picks. Jets never found their QB, they've had plenty of chances but they used them on Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson. And the Pats are sitting here with a team full of average players today.
