Yeah, as a BYU fan, the general consensus was that he'd be a solid NFL player given that he stayed healthy. I dont think anyone was predicting he'd be on the NFL receiving leader list after 5 weeks though. 😂 so excited for him.
I think ending up under McVay and having Stafford being his QB has been a big help, once he trusts a receiver he seems to like to feed them endlessly, and he definitely trusts Nacua!
I grew up with Puka, the kid is one of if not the hardest worker I’ve ever seen, he has insane hands and runs good routes. Also his 40 yd dash does not do justice to his speed. So happy to see him playing well in the league
40 yard dash times are not a great way to truly determine how fast someone plays in pads on the field. The problem is that in order to truly get the fastest time possible there has to be a lot of time spent on running out of the blocks, running form, transitioning your explosion out of the blocks to running upright, and I’m sure there is more than that. Played in HS with a guy I also ran track with and he was slow when we timed him because at the time he was more used to running on a track than turf and couldn’t get a solid start. That same kid could run sub 11 second 100m dashes any day. Mindset is the biggest key and how someone performs in the game is really the only way to truly know. What someone does when they get their chance and how prepared they are with the opportunity is the only test at the end of the day. One other thing is that a lot of the kids going into pro days and the combine are used to performing their best in much more intense situations and I think the stakes of how they perform is automatically not nearly as high-stakes because they’re just taking measurements, instead of playing their position in a game where they’re motivated, focused and ready to go to battle
Van Jefferson and Atwell also lucked out, by all accounts it should have been one of them considering Puka is a rookie and yet it was Puka that stepped up…I don’t think we are giving enough credit to both the Rams for drafting him when other teams weren’t even looking and more importantly Puka himself, filling in for one of the greatest to do it is not easy and yet Puka has done it exceptionally well. Kupp doesn’t make plays for Puka, and Stafford doesn’t turn every receiver into Kupp. The Rams may have caught lightning twice with Kupp and Puka, that is very likely at this point.
He also really benefited from Kupp being out for the first couple of weeks, which given the opportunity to be highlighted, now they can work together in tandem.
I was lucky to see his first game with the Rams in person when they beat Seattle which was amazing. From the start, he’s played with the poise and aggressive of a season veteran. He and Kupp are going to be an amazing duo. Sky’s the limit!
Kinda crazy but I went to elementary school with him when he lived in Las Vegas. I wasn't good buds with him or anything but he was known around the school as the kid with the crazy socks and he was mad funny too. It's been fun following him through BYU and I legit can't wait for him to break some more records!
At BYU we knew Pukoa was exceptional. What his stats don’t reveal are the amazing catches that he made and the tenacity with which she ran. I always thought he would do OK and make an NFL team but his meteoric rise there has been stunning. He’s a likable kid who works hard, plays like his life depends on it and will go far. If he carries on the rest of the season, even somewhat like he has already he will be rookie of the year
The thing that stood out to me wasn't the insane numbers, it was the yards after contact, and especially the yards after hard contact. Always moving forward for just a little more. Awesome
If the Rams keep feeding him the ball, he has a good shot at OROTY. The rookie rec record for yards is 1,473 and catches is 101. He has a good chance to break both of those, but probably won't break the TD record of 17.
I don’t see a world where nacua isn’t a superstar for a long time. He is learning right behind cooper kupp, the triple crown winner, he is dedicated to improving and seeing another humble wr like that on these rams offense is just wonderful. The rams to me are the best team in the nfl because that lockeroom is so inspirational
I want to thank you for making this excellent video. My only question is, if he can continue this pace, and become the first 2,000 yd receiver for a season, can he win not only offensive rookie of the Year, but offensive player of the year too?
Taylor Swift is the most annoying thing to happen to football. Between Jackson, Brittany, now Taylor the Chiefs are elite at finding external things to piss people off.
I mean when you have a guy like copper kupp constantly coaching you up, your abilities will show themselves and they have. I hope he has a long career!
When I heard TJ Houshmanzedah give him the stamp of approval...i really watched him closer.... He appears bonafide....can he withstand a season in the slot with this amount of touches? Time will tell. Already broke Kyren.
As a Lion fan, this is what Stafford does. If he trusts you, he targets you. Ask Calvin Johnson Jr, ask Cooper Kipp, ask Brandon Pettigrew, ask Eric Ebron (he tried), ask TJ Hockenson, ask Kris Durham (who? Exactly.)
Some guys grow into their body later. What impressed me was his power after the catch and surprising speed. He is a big guy now , look at his giant head .
Puka is a rockstar. Despite this, does Puka catapult above Brock Purdy ? 5th round vs. Mr. Irrevelant of last year with a near Super Bowl to his name ?
What I love most about him is the yards after catch and contact. He drags defenders like a dang TE!!! Love his grittiness and physicality. I pray he stays healthy all season. Cinderella ain't got nothing on Puka!!!
Benefit of being Cooper, Jr. (same style). Will be crazy when Kupp is back although production likely to decrease by Rams' will become much more threatening.
I watched TB12's whole career as a Pats fans , Tom and Nacua have the same scouting BS report. Those "experts" have no way of measuring HEART. I'm now a big PN17 fan, he reminds me a lot of JE11 Jules is faster but Puka is just as impressive as a slot receiver. And both are tough as nails. I played HS ball in Utah too, put I was a triple threat. I could Sit on the bench,Guard the water bucket and Tackle anyone who came near it.
I've lived long enough to know that one should always always reserve a measure of skepticism for any "expert analysis" you hear about just about any subject.
I have Cooper Kupp coming off IR. I have been offered CMC for him. Should I take it? My other WR are Devonte Adam’s, Nico Collin’s, Adam Thielen and Keenan Allen. PLEASE ADVISE! Current RB’s: David Montgomery, Najee Harris and Saquon Barkley.
Ram fan here: Nacua is a special talent - it’s incredible how successful he has been in his rookie year. IMO he couldn’t be playing for a better coach than Sean McVey: Cooper Kupp, who was a 3rd round pick by the Rams, also thrived and vastly exceeded expectations as a receiver in McVey’s offense. The sky is the limit for Nacua if he stays reasonably healthy. As a Ram fan I admit I am not totally objective but IMO Nacua should be given serious consideration for OROTY. It’s unbelievable what he has accomplished so far in his career.
This new 'football' or 'retardo rugby' is not an 'evolution' in football, it's the de-evolution, the dumbing down in favor of RB's with limited passing skills, no processing ability and running at the slightest sign of pressure. It's rotting the RB and WR markets. Go look at OBJ's numbers this year...why'd they even SIGN an elite WR and just waste the guys season? The Rams are drafting wisely. Most of their draft picks were award winners or team captains. The guys they brought in are all team players, all serious about football, hard working and sound in fundamentals. Puka ticks all the boxes. Give me a WR with good hands, smart, great route runner and willing to learn and I'll burn you for 100 yards a game, at least. Puka learned the Rams playbook from one of the most intelligent football IQ guys, Cooper Kupp and it doesn't hurt to have a dart throwing ace in Matt Stafford, either. Once the Rams tighten up and perhaps get an edge rusher, they're going to hard to beat.
@blairewalker3091 they have the same sized hands, arms and similar wingspan. .04 s difference in 40 times. Almost every pro day measurable is the exact same between them.

I’m a BYU fan too and had that same feeling about Tyler Allgeier and Fred Warner
Same. Anyone who got to watch him at BYU while he was healthy knew he'd do well if he didn't get hurt.
As someone who grew up training and playing against him, he was just always that guy
I think ending up under McVay and having Stafford being his QB has been a big help, once he trusts a receiver he seems to like to feed them endlessly, and he definitely trusts Nacua!
I dislike BYU so much but I have to admit I love Puka, dudes a beast for sure!

This analysis sounds eerily similar to Kupp lol
He also lucked out with Cooper Kupp being on his team. Kupp is a good dude and took him under his wing immediately.
With a name like that you just know he's gona become a legend
He killed it while at BYU. Look up his insane catch against Boisie St. He has great hands and tremendous feel for the field
Puka seems like a great person, very humble. Wish him the best of luck . He is a football warrior.
100%. Wish he was in Buffalo or KC so everyone could see those things.
I was lucky to see his first game with the Rams in person when they beat Seattle which was amazing. From the start, he’s played with the poise and aggressive of a season veteran. He and Kupp are going to be an amazing duo. Sky’s the limit!
Nacua has amazing hands and good instincts. Loved him at BYU. He's got a bright future.

Rams doing it again making me proud to be a fan ,greatest show on turf to matthew staford and kupp now puka 😊
very inspiring, even hits home with his poly background. Let's go Rams!
Thank you for giving our wide receiver the coverage he deserves! Subscribed
So glad I took him with a LATE pick in dynasty, also as a rams fan, it's great when a Homer pick works
Kid is a beast. Such an inspirational story.
Hoping he becomes the Brady of WRs. Passed over by so many teams and ignored by scouts, yet goes on to be one of the greatest WRs to play the game.
That’s Antonio brown

LA RAMS sure knows how to pick WR’s later in the draft
LOL the Linsanity reference
Puka fantasy owner here, got him with the last overall pick. Week 4 I was surprised he got his first TD given his numbers through weeks 1 and 2 lol.
Dan you drafted him? I got him first week of waivers. With Jefferson, kupp, tutu, I’m surprised anyone drafted him.
Regardless of his TDs, which will come, it’s still the greatest value pick in the history of fantasy football.
