As retired Army I just CAN'T BELIEVE that NINETEEN officers could not breach a room and engage a single target. This is a failure of both training and courage.
Were the officers white? Were all the children Hispanic? I think those are questions to be asked and answered. America is a very sad and tragic place right now. RIP to those children. May their parents eventually find peace.
We need a law that requires police to do their job. Right now their isn’t. There is no legal consequences if officers do not engage with a suspect. It’s a legal failure. These officers should be fired without pensions. It’s an outrage.
When he says, “you had a bullet proof vest, I had nothing” my heart sank! I served in the Army and there’s no way I would’ve retreated. Those police were cowards!! Poorly trained cowards! Then the Chief resigns because he doesn’t want to answer to his mistakes. This whole situation is one huge nightmare and I offer my sincere condolences to the Uvalde community! I felt so bad when I heard this teacher say the cops have bullet proof vests and we had nothing and they did nothing. Boy was he right. They handled it in the worst way possible.
Your comrades are cowards the boarder patrol were the true heroes not the police that was already present Shame on them a despicable act of true cowardice!!
I’m curious if you had ever seen another police officer violate a citizens rights, use excessive force, or lie on a report?? If so, did you report them or testify against them in court?? I seriously doubt it. Cops in America have made it very clear that they care more about protecting themselves then they do about protecting the citizens that pay their salaries. I wish people would stop calling cops heroes just because they have a gun and badge.
Well as an ex policeman you should consider making petitions to put detectors in all the school, security's, security devices to protect our children! I'm going to start my petition very soon as get as many signatures from people, this isn't correct at all or fair. I live in Los Angeles's on Crenshaw this is alot of crime in this part of Los Angeles's. Something has to be done ASAP with more security and detectors. So as a very concerned parent I wish someone will read this and start petitions too for all our schools and children. My deepest condolences to all the children, their parents 2 teachers and the husband specially to the the teacher that did everything to protect all his students. 🙏🌹
@@maribelnieves6530 Yes, detectors. Congress has them, the airports have them. Not everyone wants a bullet proof vest, for that you have to know in advance that something bad is about to happen. Software companies should be working on this 24/7. I can’t log into my work laptop without my ID card. But anyone can just walk into a school at any given moment. How dumb can schools be that the solution is to blame cops as if they don’t have families and friends at that school too… instead of come up with solutions. @@jolo4036 Both the teachers and kids in that school needed to be armed! ALL teachers and students should carry loaded weapons at all times during the school day. Schools should also have lethal boobytraps in the hallways and entrances that will blow up any intruders.
The fact that this man is asking for forgiveness when did absolutely nothing wrong proves he’s a good man and the fact that law enforcement acts like they handled this situation perfectly says more than enough
This is when what they teach you to do was probably the worse decision you could make. All these classrooms had outside facing windows that were large enough to exit out of. Your best chance at survival was to barricade the door (swings inside the room and not out) and have the kids exit through the windows. But what do they teach? Barricade and hide in place. Wait for police response. On a side note, I question whether classrooms have anything in them to barricade with. I grew up at a time where the teacher's desk at least was solid wood. Heavy as a beast. These days? Everything is light weight and made of weaker materials. Unless you can wedge a chair under the door handle at an angle, you probably don't have much hope of barricading so much as a hamster cage.
That hurt really bad as a father. I see his side when he says, "this family lost 1, this family lost 1, I lost 11 that day" so true teachers are the second parents of our kids, giving advice and helping with homework or whatever they need help with. I had teachers that I considered more of a parent than my actual parents will ever be. 😣
Hey man, thank you for saying this because it is 💯 true. I don't have any children of my own and yet I have hundreds. I love each of my students deeply and take care of them in every way I possibly can (I give food, supplies, clothing, literally anything I have to give) and I hurt everyday for all these kids we keep losing.
It’s tragic and I feel for this man deeply. I can’t imagine the sorrow and guilt he must live with for not being able to save his students even though there really was nothing he could do. I pray this man can somehow find some peace in the midst of this nightmare
It's really sickening when you watch the security camera of the police officers in full-body gear just crouching in the corner of the hallway for an hour and a half. I honestly have never seen such cowardice in my life.
I was right about to type a similar comment after seeing the sickening video footage yesterday. I couldn't help but cry and feel rage again especially watching one of the officers in the hallway slowly take the time to put hand sanitizer on just to walk back over to the other side of hallway and do absolutely nothing with tactical gear on. There was no urgency in the hallway. Those officers were just there playing dress up acting like a bunch of scared clueless fools listening to those babies get slaughtered 🤬😭!
i can’t even fathom the complete lack of empathy and urgency of these people. are u not going to do everything in your power knowing children are being killed?? they really didn’t care. cared more about themselves. so insane to me.

Cowards who only care about officer safety. They should all face their maker one day and when he says why didn't you save those kids or try to and they respond with we had orders, officer safety is first. I don't think he will be as accepting as the citizens of this country.
And all those same cops ask of me is to give up my ability to protect myself or others. Those same people who allowed 2020 and dropped almost every riot charge just want us law abiding citizens to give up our guns, because they will protect us just like they did for Uvalde or David Dorn.

The only good thing to come from something like this, is people get to see exactly what cops are, and that they have no duty to protect any citizen in any situation.
The young mother who ran into the school and rescued her two children and another child is upset that she is being harrassed by police now. The disgrace has not ended yet.
When he asked parents to not be angry with him because he tried his best to protect his kids...my heart broke even more. The weight of survivor's guilt on this man must be so immense.
It’s enough to drive that man to suicide or anyone as a matter of fact. Hopefully he finds some sort of peace. Lord knows how much that man is going thru

YES, he protected HIMSELF. A teacher is suppose to ensure that his classroom door is closed. No ONE can enter unless the teacher opens the door. The police stated that SOMEONE ( a teacher) left the side exit door OPEN !!! What a drama queen. He knew these kids for a few months. He's going to have same scars and some trauma to move past, but you make it sound like he watched his own family get murdered. Come on, man.
He is right. The cops had guns and vests and they had nothing. I remember the press conference where the cop said they didn't go on because they would have been shot. Shots could be heard while the cops were outside harassing parents and the commander wouldn't allow Border Patrol to enter the building for 40 minutes. Over 70 minutes had passed and kids were calling 911 and bleeding out. It is shameful. At the very least, the commander won't be trusted or respected and he and his family could even be in danger. He will need to leave. Maybe all the cops will need to leave. They won't be trusted by the community again.

The parents of the shooter are responsible for their failure to guide and seek help for their disturbed son, and the police are at fault for their inaction. I would have gone over his head or gone in anyway, insubordination be damned. This is the most cowardly behavior I have ever witnessed. There is a lot of cowardly behavior nowadays with so-called police. Many of them have no business being police officer. Too much ignoring crimes in progress and too much use of tasers and firearms. I did that job for 29 years, and I am saddened by what I have seen these past few years.

Yeah, same thing here. The strategy here is to say to the childrens to hide behind the wall (the one facing windows) so the shooter won't see anyone looking by the window door class. (and we can't lock the door, because the lock is outside the classroom. We advertised our employer to change them, put nothing have been done in years to correct this...) Also, everybody know this startegy, and the gunner only have to shoot throught the wall and hit all the childrens behind it. I know there is no bulletproof strategy for this kind of situation. Me, I would choose to break the window open and let the kids go as far from the school as they can, but doing so, we could be exposed to pursuit because we wouldn't have followed the protocol. Oh, it's ok if all the childrens are safe, but if there were a second shooter outside and they shoots the kids, you would be blamed (and you will blame yourself)for not doing what was stated in the protocol , even if you wanted only to save the children doing what you think would be the best... So, what to do in a situation like that? I think there isn't no safe strategy but just hope that it doesn't ever happen in your career... :(

I'm so very sorry for the parents whose children were murdered while the police did nothing for well over an hour! Absolutely shameful, cowardly and pathetic!
The sad thing is they are most likely being punished with a paid vacation refered to as administrative leave. Oh brother 🤦
Gerrymandering and voting restrictions intentionally render voting out government/police corruption more ineffective each election cycle. We protest (and riot) about police corruption, so lawmakers have begun attacking the right to protest without getting arrested... by those police. And this thin blue line tightens on rightfully enraged citizens every time cops fail to take accountability... which is constantly.
Was not over a hour But I know you are a leftist by your reply BACK THE BLUE
@@penni11 normally yes back the blue but in the Uvalde case you just can't back this lack of action that saw innocent children killed or injured.
I’m Irish live in Ireland and when I heard that he was in the school for 80 minutes with little children I couldn’t believe it the news was about the deaths and I said to my brother what were they waiting for I rather die trying to save those kids then do nothing I’m a father and I couldn’t take others. But I also know I could make it worse but I’m not waiting that long and blame a teacher for leaving the door open. Sending prayers to my Catholic family in Texas God love you all 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✌️
As a parent, I can't imagine being in this scenario. Those cowardly police deserve being charged as accomplices and excessive use of force against unarmed parents trying to rescue their children when those cowards wouldn't. If they were so afraid of being shot, they sure wouldn't have stayed around if a parent would've had enough of their inaction and started a second active shooter event!
You better start imagining it. America is the most violent, murderous country in the world. Have you all not been paying attention? What fairy tale have you all been living in? There are escape windows in every classroom, if there's an active shooter you don't sit under a desk you jump out of the window. Sitting under a desk is for storms or tornadoes. You all have become so fearful and afraid to take action. A nation of cowards hiding behind guns.
There is much more to it than that, it is about a lack of logical morals within the power structures and the sinister governmental agenda to strip Americans of effective means of self defense in order that the people are of no threat to ever growing tyrannical rule. Anti gun legislation is the objective so that only the "powers in charge" have effective weaponry hence leaving the people defenseless and compliant.
@@coopsawright7225 I keep hearing that, so when can you all do something about it instead of everyone keep blaming Dems and Conservatives. It's pathetic growing up watching the same cycle year after year you all keep doing and no real change or solution follows. Only the rich keep getting richer, your children are victims, you'll go vote again and nothing will change. How many more presidents , congressmen, senators and bought judges will come and go before you see your already in a communist Country in a disguise of democracy?
The 2nd Amendment is the Answer, Police are the problem.
The risk of being shot to stop a crime is something these so called police officer signed up for it's part of their job ,protect and serve, not fu@king ,hide and harass, absolute gutless pieces of filth!
From a teacher: I am so happy you came back to your family. May you find the strength to forgive yourself (even though there’s nothing to be forgiven). May you find the strength to overcome such horrific trauma.
He is wishing his life was taken and the children were spared. Feeling guilt that he survived.

I pray he doesn’t get plagued with survivor’s guilt, I can’t imagine what he’s going through, I’m glad he has the strength to share his story and know that it’s not his fault.
I fear that this teacher is not going to get the help he needs, and is going to end up taking his own life. Non of those cowards who hid behind their bulletproof vests are feeling what Mr. Reyes is going through right now.
If he doesnt want survivors guilt then he shouldve died with his students instead of pretending to be dead while the shooter killed his students.. the other teachers did die so they r the real heroes!! Actual adults who through themselves in the line of fire for their kids!!!!!
@@mist2498 You're flat wrong. Criticizing the man for doing what 99% of people would do in his situation is just ignorant. The only thing that would have changed is he would be dead as well. An untrained civilian is not going to overpower a hostile actor with an AR-15.
To answer the OP's question, he already has survivor's guilt - you can hear it when he talks about the event. In his mind, he likely believes he should have done more, but realistically, there was zero he could have done to positively change the situation.
@@mist2498 Did you miss the part that Mr. Reyes was shot three times already? Muscles and nerves in the body don't always respond to what you're trying to do when you've been hit. Keep it real...
@@mist2498 How would having him die in addition to his students be any better? You have issues.
This was one of the hardest interviews I’ve ever watched. I can’t even imagine his pain. God bless him & everyone impacted.
How are you doing
I really feel for this man's pain, losing 11 of his students and his two colleagues. He is right. The police had bullet proof vests on, and he and the kids had nothing to protect their bodies. Plus the police exiting the building while a little girl yells for help. I agree with him that police could have done alot more than just wait outside while the gunman was killing innocent people. I hope he can heal physically and emotionally from this trauma. No child or teacher deserves this violence.
Right; but you (and this journalist) think, "If it were just ILLEGALER" it'd be ok. More laws. (bc murder isn't illegal?) SURE it required a good guy with a gun ultimately, but maybe disarming people would solve crime by people who don't respect the laws that exist. Right. (you're smart)
@@trumanhw this kid purchased his guns legally.
They are easier to get than a car.
Think about that. Really think about that for a second
No one deserves this type of violence no one 😔
Bullet proof vest isn't enough against automatic rifle....they needed bullet proof shields but the departments were defunded they had to wait 4 swat teams
Welcome to america
This whole situation makes my blood boil, absolutely egrious failure by the authorities. May this poor man forgive himself, it's not his fault.
What this teacher talking makes me cry 😥😥😥 Life not fair. Sad to be a teacher that loss all his students. R.I.P. 🙏 to all his students .

Literally crying for this guy. He did what he could. WHERE WERE THE COPS?!?!?!
Milling around in the hall outside his room like ants who’ve lost their trail
This man is so brave, you can truly see the pain in his eyes just recounting that horror. And as he said, the police had bulletproof vests and he and the kids.. they had nothing
Exactly! They had nothing! At this point I think every classroom needs a bulletproof safe room! If one shot is heard then you get all the kids and yourself into the safe room and lock the door from the inside. It is literally this bad! Breaks my heart!
@R Cortez the police wouldn’t even go into the building, WITH their vests and guns. The teacher and children had none of that. So why didn’t the officers even try to stop the shooting? That is what I was trying to point out.
Parents have to remember, you’re leaving your kids in the custody of an unarmed, and poorly trained adult in an unguarded campus. Let that sink in and demand of your teachers what they plan to do, how they plan to arm themselves in this situation. If the answer is “no plan” then you’re leaving your kids with a sheep. Find another teacher or school.

The cops let them down. This is horrendous!!
Being a cop is just an ego trip and a power trip as well. Just like corporate big wigs, it’s about power! If you get scared as easy as cops say they do where they have to pump bullets in people, you should NOT be a cop! Period. And this time people got to see the true nature of most(75%) cops!
Completely inexcusable, crystal clear that "protect and serve" applies to officers' lives before the lives of the civilians they are supposed to protect and serve 🤬🤬🤬
Cops were more than just cowardly. They not only refused to engage the shooter, but prevented anyone else from interfering with his massacre for over one HOUR thus insuring the maximum number of casualties. It's at least dereliction of duty / reckless endangerment that they should be charged with.
They should be charged with murder
Actually it is your 2nd Amendment and the idiots that revere it who are wholly to blame.
