Nice one GMBN and Neil. I can't wait to see how Jackson Goldstone fairs in his first season as an elite. He absolutely pinned it at Hardline last year. Rob Warner was beside himself in the commentary box!
Hey Neil, I was a bit worried about the quality of interviews, coverage and so on for these races, but you did an excellent job! Look forward following the race season for DH... Keep up the good work.
Very quick summary of the updates, as I was unable to find them in this video, but was able to find it on YT, so it does exist. - DH elite will now have a semi final run before the finals. There is a cut to finals. these will be broadcast in same day - points are now heavily skewed to semis and finals, very low points to qualifiers. - to my understanding, the last race of the season, points only in finals - Protected riders - there are protected spots for both semis and finals, meaning that if the rider is healthy, they will get a run in semi/ finals at all times. These spots are based on previous season rankings. The number of semi final protected riders also include the finals protected. ( for example, if there are 20 protected semi final slots, 5 of them are also final protected, meaning that there are not 20 unique riders, rather 15). There will also be an increase in coverage , adding in juniors to the programming as well.
Thanks for that explainer. I found it odd how in both this video, and the one out today on the UCI channel, the respective presenters kept referring to big changes, and in interviews with riders, asked for their opinions on said changes, without actually explaining them for the audiences! Odd.
The biggest drama was that the was no info for a very long time. Pretty disrespectful to the riders and teams trying to plan a season and rider contracts
@@neildonoghueMTB That`s exactly the issue: all the changes without seeking the opinion of the athletes. All the changes have already been made and then thrown at them. It's not like any one rider had an advantage or disadvantage, they're all in the same boat.if they don't like the changes they can go race a different series.at the end of the day, they are there to compete, not organise the series. Yes it's a little unfair on the teams with regards to not having adequate time to plan travel etc,but they all got the same information at the same time, and most things would have been partially pre planned anyway,it would have just been last minute finishing touches.
@@neildonoghueMTB I would have asked the riders their thoughts on the course changes, and the sequence of their day now with the changes. Otherwise a nice report from the "Test" event. Thank you.
We can see course markers are different, why not do a video summarizing changes like course markings, finish corral screens even, proposed point breakdown by semi/finals, protected status etc.
From your show notes: "This isn't a proper race, it's a UCI Downhill test event from the organisers, to iron out some of the scheduling differences from last year and let the riders give their opinions on the new racing format. There have been changes to format and production, as well as experiments with course markings, of which riders are feeding back this weekend".
