I love looking at these old videos. He sounded so happy with his RAM pushing 2000MHz, I bought some RAM 3 years after this video and it was no more expensive to get factory clocked at 2400MHz and you could still buy higher (and push it past the XMP settings). Recently looked at a 2006 graphics card, its crazy to see how much tech has changed. Instead of a huge 3 fan 6 heatpipe heatsink on my AMD Fury the old graphics card had a 40mm fan and a heatsink less than 3x2 inches and under 1cm thick. I used to hate 2 slot thick heatsinks, crazy to think how much things change in 10 years or even just 3 years with this video and the 2133MHz "extreme" RAM.
7 years later, and I’m still going strong with my Gigabyte Z77UD3H mb and i5 3570K, upgrading to I7 3770K and a safe overclock, this is a great video, thanks, very informative.
I sold my 3570k and upgraded to the 4790k, still on that, but waiting for Icelake to see if it's worth upgrading to once they reduce the node to 10nm, or if it's worth holding out still longer for 7nm. Not sure yet, meanwhile I'm refreshing my brain on how to overclock, I just did a clean install of Win10 and need to get all the settings back to stable overclocks, especially since I changed the fan layout in my case and have more open airflow, might be able to get a slightly better clock than I had before.
Update: I found a good deal on a 3770k, ran it for a while then bricked it with a failed delid, won't hide my mistakes. But I got a good deal on an x99 platform so far it's been amazing!
3770k here on Asrock Extreme9 water cooled. Until recently it has been running rock solid almost everyday for the last 4 years but I am starting to get random freeze up's even at stock settings. Going to do a complete disassembly cleaning of the board and water loop with a fresh install of Win 10 to see if that helps.
Jay, this was great, thank you. I've bookmarked this for future use on my next build! Please don't ever apologize for making longer videos. The more details you can cover the better.

YAYAYA! Jay! I have been looking for a guide like this for a while! You explain things so clearly and easily, can't wait to follow this guide once I get my 3570k! Thanks!
I’m still rocking my 3570k to this day and just now getting into overclocking, i built my rig in 2012, 3570k with a Corsair water cooler, H50 I believe, just the single fan size radiator and a 660ti that I recently upgraded to a 1050ti. Now I’m starting to get a bottleneck, so I’m trying overclocking. I’ve seen some use this set up and run newer Tripple a titles and have smooth fps, I need to upgrade and build a new one but that’s not high on the finances priority right now, sucks that gpus habe shot up in price for the new cards, my 660 ti was about 150 on new egg in December 2012 lmao.

So glad i found this video Jay! I hate almost everyones voices on youtube except a few. So thanks for being one of them!
going through your old videos and stumbled upon this, which is awesome because im still rocking a 3770k. 4.6ghz would boot but even webpages refused to load correctly lol so back to 4.5 it is @ 2.250v
just did overclock my trusty 3770k thank you for the video :D even now! made it to 4.2 Ghz with only 1.070V without a Watercooler and I'm peaking in the 80 on full throttle. I think I need a AIO Watercooler... :D
Hey Jayz, thanks for making this tutorial, I successfully overclocked my chip to 4.4Ghz (3570k). I will run a test over night but so far it has been very stable. I have been playing games and its perfect.
In the end I didnt use this method. I found online a very useful guide for overclocking using the offset method and that worked the best for me. Using fixed voltage just meant that even if your PC is idle, it will run at that voltage and will run at higher temp. Here is the guide that i used. forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=38867 Its been around 5 months now and I have had no problems with my CPU. I have a stable overclock of 4.5GHz and offset voltage set to +0.05V. Idle temp is 30~35C, 100% load on all cores temp 60~67C, Prime95 can make it reach around 75C but that isnt a problem for me. Im using Corsair H60 cooler. Im using the old model released around 4-5 years ago.
Hi Jay, just subbed to your channel after watching u for the last couple weeks off and on and I gotta say, out of all the overclocking vids I have seen, you've been the best and easiest most informative one to watch. My question is, and I hope Im not asking too much here, I have a little different equipment than what you have in this video (albeit close), and I just want to make sure I get this OC done right with no (or as few as) hiccups involved and I damn sure don't wanna damage something.
this vid helped me alot.. my i5 3570k was just barely to slow for what i game and i bumped it to 4.4Ghz seems stable. in 8 hrs of burntesting max tmp 75c.
Built my MSI Z77a-G45 with an i7-3770k in 2012. 32 GB off ram Corsair AIO water cooling. Just replaced the motherboard after 7 years of continuous running.
Yeah, I have a 3770k and I've pre-ordered FS2020. I shall wait and see if it's good enough and if not, I'll go for a "top range" one as I've already upgraded my graphics card to a GTX1660 Ti
Haha, so cool to hear "old" Jay. I'm still rocking a 3770k OC to 4.6, however, I followed a guide that I never felt comfortable with. Since I like to tinker so I figure I'll try to get a better overclock (either even higher frequency or lower voltage). Thanks for the video old Jay :D
Hey Jay ! Great Vid I wanted to ask you if i should wait until Ivy-Bridge-E or Haswell-E comes out our buy one of the aviable Ivy-Bridge processors. Greetings from Germany :)
100% true, but there's a video on teksyndicate that shows the new asus tool, logan says that it actually works, but nothing is comparable to tuning everything manually in the bios it gives me da big joy in my heart
Really good video jay. Keep Up the Great Work! But could you please go into a little more detail when it comes to messing with ram frequenzy and voltages? I always find myself messing up, and when i do, my system keeps failing to reboot and i have to remove the little battery from the mainboard in order to restore default settings. Have you got any Idea of whats going wrong with my system? regards
Yo Jay!! Great vid m8! But what we really would like to see is, you to de-lid a haswel chip, so we can see what to do. Think you can do that for us? Great job with channel!!
hey mate im trying to overclock my i5 10400, is there anything io should know before trying? just cant find any content on it and dont want to risk it, thankyou love your videos, you helped me build my first computer :)
@Sgt bowman use premiere first then after effects later, the programs have two different uses video effects use premiere for extreme after effects in your vid (excuse the pun) use AE. After effect is used for creating intros mainly by utubers and other transitions that premiere cant do. So a good mix of the 2 is good for basic use but when it comes to pro use after effects comes into a world of its own. Its all depends on what you want to do and how much you want stretch your knowledge
Thank you very much for the tutorial! I've got a 3570k with an AsRock Extreme 4, cooled by a Hyper 212 EVO. Going to give your settings a try and see what I can get. Currently have it at around 4.2ghz stable, but I want to push it to 4.4ghz. I think the issue at the moment is that my Load Line calibration is at 2 or 3 based on another video. I'll move that to 1 and see if I can get a 4.4 OC stable. If its a cooling problem I'll go with an H100i instead. Thanks again!
+Gustavo Rocha I'm so confused about overclocking... Like I dunno if it's way out of my league, I have i5 3570k and gtx 970 (gettkng the 970 tomorrow) and I dont want my cpu to bottleneck
As long as it's around 4.0 you're good. I have an r9 390x and it was a major bottleneck when it's in its original 3.4. This guide did help out the performance with most of all the new games coming out this year. As long as you have 16gigs of ram and a water cooling system for your cpu l, you're good
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 has "Non-k" overclock, so the answer to your questions is yes, if it is supported by the mobo. I'm not sure for the 4670, but you should do some research.
Hey Jay. I just got a second hand 3570K and I have a question about longevity for you, a few years after you made this video. From my research, people have found that a lot of Z77 Asrock motherboards report wrong voltage that is 0.3-0.7v lower than what is actually measured with a voltmeter at the board. Also LLC at level 1 on the Asrock boards tend to overshoot the voltage above the set value when under load even further. I am a bit worried about too high voltage being pushed to the CPU without me even knowing it. Have you noticed any degradation on your CPU when running with high overclock for prolonged time? Thanks. I researched it because I got suspicions on the OC results that seamed too good and too easy. I would appreciate your opinion on the results. When I first tweaked it, the CPU went to 4.4GHz with no other changes from the defaults. Only multiplayer at 44 and CPU-Z says it runs at 1.2V max (auto voltage with LLC at auto). I though it was a bit off. It could have been right because the stock cooler (yes I know replacement is being delivered,) actually managed to keep the 4.4GHz in gaming and Heaven benchmark at 60-65c and 85c under Prime95 test. However at this point I don't know If I can trust the temps (since I can't trust the voltage reading, the temp might be off too). This is because the PC started crashing and bluescreened at those settings at low temps. It turned out the VRM was blazing hot, so I had to install a fan blowing at it. I want to push the CPU to 4.9 stable (highest OC it will boat at) but I worry the 1.4V needed to work at that speed might be actually way higher.
Thank you! For a bit deeper understanding it was a perfect demonstration. I got my 3770k today second hand and I am very much into check what it is capable of. I think you used/use the 3770k for a decent period of time. What was the 24/7 frequency you used it mostly? Sorry for my English of course :)
Please, Jay, can you do an updated video of this with more current software suite? I think the Intel Burn Test is outdated now. I want to learn how to overclock my system and what the pros/cons of using the Asus Tuning Wizard are versus manual overclocking?? Thank you!
Well... It appears overclocking was not my chip's specialty. I got 4.2 Ghz at 1.2 V. When I was doing the Aida 64 stability test, it ran fine for an hour and a half, then my computer restarted. Should I take this as a sign that I should bump my overclock down to 4.1 Ghz or is an hour and a half on Aida 64 stable enough? Thanks
I've seen 3770K's boot at 1.1V, if you can get it to boot at a lower voltage that you set yourself you will find the base voltage.. every chip is a bit different. If you blue screen, while trying to boot, you don't have enough voltage.
Jay you say dont use stock fans; all i did was change my thermal paste, @ 1.25v, OC @ 4.3 Ghz (i5 2500k), it runs at 60~70 degree's. Stock Thermal paste and same settings = 70~85. o.O!
Im running 3770k stock 1080 ti here. Games work great. This cpu can handle them all .I watch some youtube and Ive seen better fps in games than some 8700k with 1080ti. Have not seen a decent cpu yet to build on . Im looking for an ultra high cpu . I dont feel the need to upgrade as everything works fine even after all these years. Before this plaform I used Athlon thunderbird in 2011. Then i had issue with amd crashing alot I discovered the amd chips are not stable like intels are. After owining them .The intel is completely stable in windows no blue screens like amd.

intel speed step technology takes me to 5.5ghz when i use a 47 multiplier, its like an extra turbo boost and personally dont recommend having it enabled when i clearly want 4.7ghz clock
What is better, to start over clocking all 4 cores in sync or to start with 1 core only, then activating additional cores and setting the per core multiplier lower?
All 4 cores at the start & then you have a good baseline to push that one man army of a core to turbo a solid frequency. Same boat ad you, but a new motherboard w/ a new 4770k. I planned for the worse case scenario with Team 16 GB 2666 1.65v @ 11-13-13-35. Playing with the iGPU & realized I may have the lottery for the 4770k. CPU core is 1.06v at stock clocks, 16 GB @ 2666, and both CPU/MEM are will with the stock cooler 39-40°C. It's handling the volts really well. Exciting times with a new CPU. 332 Costa Rica. Waterblock will tell me more, but I'm going to push it up to 4.35 on air and shoot for 4.9 GHz +. Good luck to you...
Jay, could you use a xmp profile with your overclock once your done finding a good stable frequency? My rated speeds on my Kingston hyperx beasts are 2400 MHz
Opinions on using auto offset for voltage (z77 sabertooth if it matters). Can I use the auto / do stress to see where I might get an initial core for the oc rather then doing all of the incremental steps? 3770k at 4.2 right now which is super tame with the auto offset. Can I stress it now and monitor voltages from cpuid/hwmonitor and find a starting point and then back down from the max?
Hey there , Im running a 3570k and want 4.6ghz i have a noctua nd14 with a case that has 5 fans... Using crucial ballistix 16gb cl8 can i overclock the ram more than 1600mhz. Awesome video !!!
Tried everything you said in order carefully, did the burn test at 4.2ghz 1.2v on i5 3570k and PC blue screened and crashed everytime in bios, luckily I managed to fast as fuck change the settings back to default before it crashed at one point. Never trying overclocking again!
+Sython6 what you did wrong was that you overclocked too far, you shouldn't go for large overclocks if its your first time, even if your friend has the same cpu as you, you probably wont be able to get the exact same overclock. I would suggest a lower overclock and try again.
sounds like your clock/voltage ratio is way off. Jay says at 17:11 that too low a voltage will crash the system. At least you tried. BSODs are kinda scary for the newb, but you didn't damage anything by trying that low of an overclock.
JayzTwoCents How do you know what volts your computer in the bios. I don't understand volts and computer compatibility to my computers features is there a guide I can look at or a tutorial you can recommend or make it would be much appreciated

Perfect walktrough Jayz. Helped alot!
Thanks for making a Haswell overclocking guide.
Thank you this helped me understand the whole concept of overclocking much better, thanks alot. I subscribed :D
Hey Jay ! Great Vid
I wanted to ask you if i should wait until Ivy-Bridge-E or Haswell-E comes out
our buy one of the aviable Ivy-Bridge processors.
Greetings from Germany :)
2019, Just Saying. Bought a second hand board and 4770k, looking for some OCling advice.
I`ve been waiting for this! Thanks Jayz!
100% true, but there's a video on teksyndicate that shows the new asus tool, logan says that it actually works, but nothing is comparable to tuning everything manually in the bios it gives me da big joy in my heart
i have watercooling, but ill play it safe and go 4.5 thank you for the guide
Just because of this video, I am considering getting a Hyper 212 EVO heatsink to replace stock for my 3570k (at stock clock as well)
@Sgt bowman use premiere first then after effects later, the programs have two different uses video effects use premiere for extreme after effects in your vid (excuse the pun) use AE. After effect is used for creating intros mainly by utubers and other transitions that premiere cant do. So a good mix of the 2 is good for basic use but when it comes to pro use after effects comes into a world of its own. Its all depends on what you want to do and how much you want stretch your knowledge
In 4 way optimization yes. I know that for sure for socket 1150, not sure if it's the same for Ivy Bridge.
Thank you for making this.
Hey dude, what voltage do you recommend between 4.3 to 4.4ghz with 1600mhz DDR 3 RAM? Thanks for the vid :)
what did you go with?
@@ImDippinIn left it stock. My cooler isn’t performing enough to handle an OC.
Hey Jay,It would be awesome if you could do an Overclocking guide for the new Skylake chips (unless the process is very similar).
Please we need a new Intel Overclocking Guide up to date please
wow dam you came along way man
same bios as my asrock board love the layout
Hey jay which adobe video software do you use , just after effects or premier as well?
Yesterday it was 115 here.. I just subbed!
loved this video jay. sooo helpful!
got my i5 3570k 3.4 up to 4.2. thanks J.
That's what I wanna do
+simon sharkeye I kinda regret it since I only have 8gig of ram I pushed it down to 4.0
+Gustavo Rocha I'm so confused about overclocking...
Are you sure about LLC level 1 setting? Usually it should be level 5 to be turned off.
Thank you!
Dude Your Awesome For Making Content For Us To Watch !! =)
Just wondering do you ever overclock your Cache or just straight cpu clocks jay?
SUGGEST ME PLEASE WHICH one Will BEETER -
GTX 1650 SUPER 4GB DDR6 V's GTX 1060 6 GB DDR5X
WITH
i5 3570 k - ASROCK z77 EXTREME 4 - CORSAIR VENGENCE 16GB RAM (1600MHZ)
AND WHICH BRAND - INNO3D / MSI / ZOTAC / GIGABYTE ?
Jay you say dont use stock fans; all i did was change my thermal paste, @ 1.25v, OC @ 4.3 Ghz (i5 2500k), it runs at 60~70 degree's. Stock Thermal paste and same settings = 70~85. o.O!
super young jay!!
Jay , you should run this cpu with some of the newer graphics and see how it lives up to it. Like maybe a 1060, 1660/ti .
After owining them .The intel is completely stable in windows no blue screens like amd.
i have a i5 3570k at 1.39v for 4.4Ghz and 1.275v at 4.2Ghz, i know it's not normal but is it very dangerous for the cpu ?
Hey Jason can you tell me what c states you use and why? That's always been grey area for me when overclocking
Shouldn't you turn off Turbo Boost Technology when doing this?
i7 2700k CPU with a Corsair H80 water coolerCorsair TX850 Bronze/Gold Certified PSU (its def one of the two)16GB of DDR3 Kingston HyperX Savage RAM @ 2133mhz (though it doesn't have the timings listed anywhere on it although all I know is its a CL-11 I thinkASUS Z77 Sabertooth motherboardIm shooting for 2400mhz on the Ram (or as close to it as I can achieve) and Im targeting a 4.8ghz OC on the CPU
Same principles apply for:
PC Specs.
Intel i7 960 @3.2ghz
Gigabyte G1.Sniper
EVGA GTX 570 in 2-way SLI
Mushkin Silverline Stiletto 3x4 GB DDR3 1333 ram
Coolermaster HAF 922 case
Cougar SX 750w Power supply
Logitech G300 gaming mouse
Corsair Vengeance K60
Noctua NH-C12P SE14
intel speed step technology takes me to 5.5ghz when i use a 47 multiplier, its like an extra turbo boost and personally dont recommend having it enabled when i clearly want 4.7ghz clock
Sad this is only for windows users. Where's the Linux love Jay? Lol great job
Hey there, how do you feel about the method of overclocking where you just raise the turbo multipliers?
what is your opinion on the i5 4670k? should i get the fx-8350 or the 4670k?
Good luck to you...
thanks for the video, but how do i know if there is an adequate cooling before overclocking?
Jay, could you use a xmp profile with your overclock once your done finding a good stable frequency? My rated speeds on my Kingston hyperx beasts are 2400 MHz
Opinions on using auto offset for voltage (z77 sabertooth if it matters). Can I use the auto / do stress to see where I might get an initial core for the oc rather then doing all of the incremental steps? 3770k at 4.2 right now which is super tame with the auto offset. Can I stress it now and monitor voltages from cpuid/hwmonitor and find a starting point and then back down from the max?
Jay i have an i5 3570k with Noctua NH-C12P SE14 fan cooling and 4x4 ram ddr3. Is the fan good enough for overclocking or i should get a new one?
would a closed loop water cooling system work good for overclocking?
Thanks for the video, I reached with haswell stable 4.5 more than that not stable. And with 2133 ram speed
i have an 80plus gold certafied raidway power supply is that ok to overclock with?
I have to use a fixed offset of 0.9 v or my pc won’t boot it just either fails on windows or blue screen at 1.2 it black screens
does disabling spread spectrum really affect that much??...is ok to leave enabled?
Weird question, but what laptop do you have/like to use?
Can you do a advance overclocking guide? Explaining the other stuff you just skipped over.
Hey there ,
Im running a 3570k and want 4.6ghz i have a noctua nd14 with a case that has 5 fans...
Never trying overclocking again!
lol!
