When you open the split ring rather than use your fingers to turn the treble use your split ring pliers.
I have a pair of long nosed pliers I use for this as they are neater than the ring ones.
Great video and tight lines for the season!

Paul, what size split rings do you attach to the size 8 barrel swivel, can you recommend good quality split rings and swivels please. Fantastic and informative video.

Thanks John. Very much appreciated. I have used mustad 6mm split rings for years and have never had an issue. I was recently given some VMC extra strong split rings to try. I think the size 2 are 6mm but worth double checking. These are excellent too. I would definitely recommend using a well known manufacturer for end gear. Especially for salmon. After all we wait so long for a fish it would be sickening to loose one on poor kit.

Do the imitation ones work just as well. Thinking of trying them on an Irish river .

Hi. Yeah I use both the vision 110s and the copies. In my opinion the fish don’t know the difference 🧐 It’s probably a confidence thing tho. Fish what you are confident with and you will fish better. Tight lines and thanks for watching.

Hi Chris. Thanks for watching. 👍 I just got mine on eBay. Just search ‘loom bands’ and you’ll have loads to choose from.

Interesting concept, but wouldn’t you be better off placing the hook on the rear of the lure? Lot less faffing and usually it’s the rear of the lure they go for.
    Thanks

Thanks for watching David. Hook up rates are much better with the hook positioned in the middle. I have discussed this with various ghillies and better salmon anglers than me. Most agree that Salmon in particular will take the lure side on. If you had one hook in the tail you would miss most of these takes. This, in my humble opinion, applies to Pike too but we are allowed two hooks on a pike lure in Most Scottish Lochs.

I don’t recommend this, I tried and hooked into 3 fish and not one of them broke the loom band and lost them shortly after. After that I tried actually snapping them myself and the pressure to barely snap them was waaay too much, maybe it’s just the brand of loom bands I used but just went back to 3lb fluruocarbon. Just my opinion but being honest!🎣

Thanks very much for the reply and for watching the video. I’ve never had that problem. All the loom bands I’ve used work. Good to hear another point of view tho. Will definitely let people make an informed decision 😎👍

What knots would you use to attach the nylon to rings please?
