I worked for Caterpillar Tractor Plant, Glasow, Scotland...and this was one of our machines, we built the D8H, then the D8K and then the new design D8L..We supplied all the D8's for Europe, Africa, Turkey and the Middle East, and Australia.
I spent many a happy long day on an 'H', pushing pans, clearing and working cuts and anything else I could find to do. They are sure sweet tractors and will turn the work out.
Nice HH 46A. As long as we can get parts for them, they will outlast the D8T's. Those were built in the days when Caterpillar made real machines, and not crap like they do now.

félicitations pour la restauration le d8h un des meilleur bull de cat que j'ai utilise dans ma jeunesse
Great job man
I miss operating these. even if I had to spend up to 14 hrs on them. Ate my lunch and pee while moving dirt and rock.
tres bon travail super tracteur
This video is awesome
Bellissimo un capolavoro
The only thing better than a good high horsepower 46A is a high horsepower 36A. The D8H's are the greatest D-8s Caterpillar ever made.
10 years, good you saved it, only drive train and hydraulics still keeping up? probably leaking crankshaft seals, normal if it sit for a long time

looks good
Good job
Thanks!
Can’t help but wonder if that new cab will hold the weight of that tractor if it rolls over. That is the purpose of ROPS.
I was just wondering the exact same thing 😂
No. Need 5x5 box tubing with mounts below the deck on both sides of the frame and bevel gear housing. What he has there is a flat land cab.
Undercarriage looks great. That’s half the battle right there.
What was the first year of them having factory cabs?
What year is this D8?
it looks good. what kind of paint did you use?
I used Caterpillar original painting, it's good for the corrossion but I think that the addhesion could be better.
Thanks!
Beautiful
