I am not a body person or mechanic but this young man has created one of the best technical how-to videos that I have seen thus far. Great job here! Probably has a career in teaching.
You need to loosen the set screw, usually Torx25, that holds the key lock cylinder (found on side of door under a little rubber circle plug ) and back out the entire lock a couple inches from the front of the door handle BEFORE you remove the door actuator. Stick the key in, turn it a little and pull it out 2-3 inches. If not, then you will ruin the door lock cylinder when taking it out. This is why he says you need "elbow grease" cause he's ripping the spring-loaded lock cylinder out of its housing within the actuator and destroying the keylock capability; its removes easily when done correctly. And you cant just hold it back up in there if you bust it apart you will have to remove the entire lock cylinder and rebuild it. If its already broken, good thing a new kit is like 8 bucks. Hope this helps and maybe will get pinned or moved up to help the most people💪💪 but otherwise EPIC video/sound quality (thumbd+subd)
This is one of the best do-it-yourself videos I've seen very well explained, excellent camera work no fast talking, leaving out important steps you did a great job bro!!
For those having trouble getting the latch-actuator assembly past the regulator track: Turn the latch-actuator assembly 90 degrees -- counter-clockwise if working on the left door, clockwise for the right. Slide the assembly down (as low as you can get it) and towards the hinge side of the door. This is where the track is the most flexible. Push the track away from you and slide the latch-actuator assembly towards the hinge side of the door even more. At least on my 2006 Bangle-ized E90, this maneuver got it right out. And definitely see the comments and videos about the little plastic access plug and the bolt behind it (4mm Allen head) to remove and reassemble the mechanical lock cylinder and the rod that connects it to the latch-actuator assembly.
Thanks a bunch! You saved me when replacing the latch on my 2015 M4. The 4:30 point of the video showed how to get the latch free from the cable. I bought a used latch on eBay and it already had the cable attached to the latch so I thought the cable needed to be connected somewhere at the end opposite the latch & that would have been near impossible. On the M4 the window bracket does not have to be removed or loosened to remove the latch. Still breathing heavy like I won the lottery.

This is great But the first step should be removing the key lock (on the driver door) first. There will be a rubber plug above the screws holding the cyldiner into the actuator. The bolt will be on a angle facing towards the outside. After loosening the bolt [torx 25( it shouldn't come out)] you can wiggle out the part where the key goes in. The light does NOT come out with it. The metal peace he talked about putting back in will come out in place, it is locked with a push pin and has a release. You don't need to take it off of the lock cylinder. Do the rest of the video as instructed, you will notice not much elbow grease is needed to remove the lock actuator. And install last when the actuator is in place, reinstall and tighten down the set screw and your manual key should still work just fine.
You are amazing!!! I changed both driver and passenger actuators in less than two hours. I watched another video for directions with the key lock. The other video was helpful with that. But you saved me a ton of money. Thank you!
Really useful until the part where you remove the 2 x 10mm nuts to loosen the window regulator. I have an E93 and there is only 1 10mm and it does not budge when removed. Any idea how to get the old mechanism out?
I did yes! Underneath where the door latches, there is a black bung which you have to remove and then get a long extension socket in to remove the other regulator bolt.
Thank you for the video. I installed the actuator on the driver side by following your tutorial. After putting everything together, things work with the key fob. But the central dash button to lock all doors does not work now. I wonder what would have gone wrong

With the key lock insert it into the door lock side first. You can rotate the actuator while it’s in there to set it in place and it’ll slide right up into position. Hopefully this helps someone in the future. Thank you for the in depth guide!
Hey thanks for the guide was helpful, for your information for the future to fit the metal link between the actuator and the key lock you remove the handle. Yeah, the video was well done. I think the flexibility of that regulator brace may be determined by the particular regulator. There was no way that mine was going to give enough, even with a pry bar, to get the actuator out without breaking. I ended up having to detach the window from the regulator and then it would give enough to let the actuator out. Ever replaced door lock actuator e61 with S323 Soft-Close-Automatic doors ?
Thank you so much Buddy
Its the same for bmw f20?
I have a 2008 3series coupe , my door lock passenger side has died completely , no noises at all when pressing alarm buttons , it just won’t work ?
When I lock car manually from inside passenger side and get out the car I press button it all locks up but when I press button to open only drivers door lock opens , passenger door stays down locked ??
Did you have to take the door handle out ?
When i plug in the new actuator i tried locking and unlocking doors with fob and they all unlock but now lock button doesnt lock any doors. What can i do to fix this?
I have a question , so my daughter kept pulling on the door latch several times , noticed that a couple days later the door stayed locked doesn’t open or close even when unlocking the door , is that the actuator issue ? Thanks
Can you still hear the click when pressing the lock button? If you can then it's probably not the actuator.
@@BuddysDIY yea I can as a matter of fact just removed the door panel with the door being locked and then unlocked it and locked it and you can still hear it , 🤔
@@benzoh28 I'd just go thru the video and make sure all the parts align. Stick your head or a phone camera I. The door frame and press the button and see if the actuator is doing what's it's supposed to do.
@@BuddysDIY I’ll give it a shot thanks a lot man really appreciate your help 👍
Excellent Job
Done in 2 hours. Could not have done it without this video. I'm obligated to subscribe. Just a like would be a cheap ass.
Only only part the video did not work for me was to pull down and out on the white plastic thing inside the door. After futzing awhile I pulled on the accordion part of it to release it.
I am new to BMW DIY. I have a 2015 535, which door lock actuator will work for it?
Fcpeuro.com
Do you have a link for the actuator
Check link. Will do it now
@@BuddysDIY thanks a lot 👌🏻
I'm still having trouble getting it pass the metal guide rod, anyone have advice?
Buddy i missed a step in doing this now my car wont unlock can you help me please
What if you changed already but it seizes and you can’t open the door
The only down side to this is the ''insulation'' It's a vapour barrier and really should be sealed properly.
How about for an e92
I changed my rear door lock and it works fine with the key fob. But it doesn't open from the inside now. When the passenger pulls the inside handle, the door won't open. They need to be let out from the outside. Anybody know what the problem could be?
I changed it and now all doors lock when i close door any ideas anyone?
awesome high quality video :) \
I just replaced the driver door actuator but now the door is locked idk what to do
Did you lock the key in the car?
Buddy's DIY no it was because i installed the cable for the door handle incorrectly
@@michaelpast19 so you the cable is not connected and the door is closed?
Buddy's DIY yup the cable wasn’t on tight enough and I installed the door panel and everything so I can to start all over again lmao mistakes happen
@@michaelpast19 haha yes they do. You should deff test it before you slam the door lol. Were you able to getnthe door pannel off with the door shut?
