My mother absolutely loved this song and we listened to it together time and time again. She's no longer with us, but whenever I hear it it's like she's right there with me. Thank you, Antoine!
Haven't listened to this song in probably 11 years and I just got about 38 seconds in and I'm thinking to myself "OH MY GODDDD I forgot how much I love this player and these recordings. Beautiful sounds. Friggin love this guy's mind and his playing.
I’ve been meaning to write to Antoine for years to tell him how much I love and appreciate his music. This song in particular. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear the chorus. No one has ever been more attuned to what I love about music.
I dedicated this song to my very first girlfriend. I never felt love before and I still remember to this day how she made me feel. She was perfect... but she was all the way across the states(I was in Virginia and she was in Texas). We never saw each other, but that love was real. We talked every single day, before and after school, for hours, and on weekends we would talk all night until the sun came up. I remember her telling me how beautiful this song was when I sent it to her. I thought I was going to be with her for the rest of my life... but she ended up getting really sick, and passed away. For years I couldnt listen to this song, it hurt way too much. This is the first time I have heard this song in over 6 years... and it still hurts. R.I.P. Sarah. I still miss you.
Its okay dude. We all have people that are dear to us in life. Even though I never saw her, I still loved her. Say what you want, our feelings were real.
If you must know, she had diabetes and became really sick from low blood sugar. She got a shot and had an allergic reaction over night, dying from heart failure in her sleep.
Elijah Martin I'm sorry to hear man. A good buddy of mine was murdered and this song has always brought him to mind. Many people would call it stupid, selfish, bullshit. Fuck them. He was a good guy and did not deserve to go as he did. Let those feelings out, brother. Wish you the best.
+Elijah Martin Im really sorry to hear that. This song already hits me pretty hard, and i have nothing attached to it as of yet. I hope everything works out, and you find someone that you can show this song to =)
This is why I hesitate to do anything with music. When you see something this amazing and beautiful you have to question if what you're bringing to the table is really worth anyone's time.
That's where you messed up. Music isn't about thinking what everyone else is going to feel. It's about how you feel about it, and you're only job as a musician is to make others understand where you're coming from. Success varies. Yeah, this guy isn't on the radio, but look at the following he has on UA-cam. Anybody can live this life, dude. You just have to possess the ambition.
Robert M Appreciate your response man. I meant my comment as more of a compliment to this amazing guitarist, but you're certainly right about the ambition thing. TC.
I agree with the comment above. I make my own songs. They're no where near this caliber, but if you are digging what you're doing that's all that matters. Your music should be an expression of you, not just your talents.
Another awesome, gifted & versatile guitarist. When I watch this I just shake my head at his ability to create the music he's playing. How he does what he does is beyond amazing. I LOVE this song!
I misread "technique" as language... but is music not, at its core, a universally understood language? Feelings are spoken through it, thoughts are conveyed with it. It is structured, yet fluid. It can be interpreted in many ways.
thanks for your music antoine, im in huge pain right now and this helps a lot to calm it down, every other thing i listen to that isnt one of your songs stresses me, your music is magic
He's so "into it" that he hits his hand against the "drum", if that doesn't do it for you then I don't know what will. ...........I just want you to imagine a heavy metal drummer punching his drums after his sticks break.
Antoine is the master of contemporary fingerstyle acoustic guitar in my opinion; perfect combination of flawless technique, compositional genius and heartfelt playing. This one's a joy to play too, I recently posted a cover if anyone is interested. Keep making beautiful music for us please Monsieur Dufour!
+Machete Moonlight hey hey hey hey hey !!! I saw Michael for the first and only time on his last trip to the east coast. I learned of his passing from the label on " Torched" where they said that the proceeds from that disc were going to his family. I really do get the feels every time I think of that.
+Red Salmon Hey guy! have you a hope? use it! some years ago, i said the same thing "some day i'll play like this". Today, i can play 7 songs of antoine Dufour, 2 songs of Andy Mckee, 1 song of Ewan Dobson and trying to play more! I started it playing "Catching the light", and i still training until today. After you get the first music(in fingerstyle), you learn the next song with same techniques. Tip: be very observant and patient!
The "last heartbeats" at the end is a tear jerker. You could watch his face, this is a song he likes. The lip curl, and other facial expressions are plain as day. You can tell he wish he could have said goodbye.
I heard in some live recording Antoine saying that this song was dedicated to his cousin Zachary, which was killed in a restaurant. ..Now I can't stop associating the beats at the very end of the song with Zach's heart. RIP, man. You had the greatest tribute ever.
I have been watching, learning and listening to some of the best guitar talent for many years now and I believe Antoine to be the best in the world, hands down.
i love this so much, it's the song that made me start playing guitar more years ago, and now i've played this on a stage before. just wanna say again that antoine is my inspiration and i hope he never stops making beautiful music
the most heartfelt song iveever heard by antoine dufour ever before! i can see and feel what his music is trying to get across. very well done antoine!
I agree bassie. I really adore what an incredible ear he has to create and perform the melody in the choruses at 0.58-1.12 and 2.12-2.26 etc. The harmonics and open chords just sound beautiful together.
Heard Antoine play this tonight in Portland. Even without the explanation of the background behind the writing of the song, it is an emotionally moving piece. Meeting Antoine before the show, he was gracious to me, a total stranger. He deserves a much wider audience for his incredible music.
I agree with you totally man. All these guys are amazing and have their own little twists and sounds. I like Antoines, I can't put my finger on but it's good stuff. I'm addicted as well.
antoine you have inspired me just as much as anyone in the music that i now create. you have given me idea after idea, you are a truly wonderful influence on me, and on music. I am very happy to have been able to be exposed to your music..... keep keepin it real man, i'll keep listenin
I feel like sitting nearby a lake in canada or alaska, with crystal-clear water and the stars shining above my head, mountains with white stains growing out of the horizon...this song is like a drug and a true masterpiece...
I just love the emotion in his music. I wish my talents matched my feelings like that. He plays from the heart, and it's a rare and beautiful thing. Im so glad I got to see this.
I have been playing guitar for a long time and oh does this song touch my soul! I think this is one if the best acoustic song from him that I have heard so far!! Brilliant my friend, absolutely!
i started listening to you like 2 years ago.... set a goal to be able to lay your music.. and now im going to learn this song lol mad respect your amazing
The sustainbility is soooooooo incredible. It is not so much the type of guitar but its Master. : -) Such a joy to listen to this artist. rpoland thanks for posting this great musician. : -) Peace and Love!
The harmonic slap and pull off in the chorus goes from a C major to a D minor. Love it! Most beautiful part of the song. Really creative technique, too. Antoine's a genius.
all these guitar gods are making me want to play more and more, but better and better more passion and it is working. One day even if it is the last thing i ever do ill become one of these guys.
I love this tune. I love the way you play too. It reminds me of an old friend Caroline Stevens nee Hebert. Another guitarist/composer who manages to sound like more than one instrument is being played at once. Same sense/logic to the music and just as complicated. Beautiful.
Learning Antoine Dufour's music has taught me a valuable lesson about solo acoustic guitar....harmonics can be used to make the sexiest sounds that slot into any melody when done correctly!
I still consider this to be one of the greatest songs written on acoustic guitar.
It was this song here that changed my life forever and I found out this music exists.
A master at a craft further being saturated by talented people.
I’ve been meaning to write to Antoine for years to tell him how much I love and appreciate his music. This song in particular. I get tears in my eyes every time I hear the chorus. No one has ever been more attuned to what I love about music.

how did she die? Infected with a virus?
If you must know, she had diabetes and became really sick from low blood sugar. She got a shot and had an allergic reaction over night, dying from heart failure in her sleep.

Appreciate your response man. I meant my comment as more of a compliment to this amazing guitarist, but you're certainly right about the ambition thing. TC.
your comment is wise, man
Play for yourself, if it sounds good to you then it is good.
I agree with the comment above. I make my own songs. They're no where near this caliber, but if you are digging what you're doing that's all that matters. Your music should be an expression of you, not just your talents.
Doesn't matter how many times I have listened to this. Each time I come back and watch the video I am even more amazed.
This is the first song by Antoine I fell in love with. It really pulls on the heart strings.
Wow, this is absolutely fantastic. Andy and Antoine for the win.
Another awesome, gifted & versatile guitarist. When I watch this I just shake my head at his ability to create the music he's playing. How he does what he does is beyond amazing. I LOVE this song!

He's so "into it" that he hits his hand against the "drum", if that doesn't do it for you then I don't know what will. ...........I just want you to imagine a heavy metal drummer punching his drums after his sticks break.
