I wound up coming up with a way of displaying a card on top of the deck face up, hand totally empty, and then as I swipe two fingers reaaaally slowly across the face, it morphs so that if I bring my fingers to the middle it's half one card and half another, or if I slide up or down it can morph back and forth a bit before completing the swipe forward and the whole card has changed and I can show my hand still empty. if it wasn't for you doin what you do, it's not just this one trick but probably at least about a few hundred others that I never would have come up with.

I got to learn this gem a while back from Richard Osterlind. What an amazing concept it is and so useful. The bang for your buck on this principle is second to none. However. When you have felt how it feels in your hand and riffled through to find it I noticed you could almost just bevel the deck slightly if you couldn't find the cut card. Bevel the deck diagonally and the card will make itself known. Either by touch (I found this works best with bevelling the top towards you) or by sight (inverse. i.e bevelling the top away from you) if you want to sneak a glance or need a reminder. Great stuff as always, Daniel. FANK!
Great idea, I should have mentioned something similar, in looking directly down on top of the deck and still being able to see it - when it's beveled of course - but you're right, the bevel helps SO much!

You are very welcome, yes yes, if it's a choice to either have an advantage or not, then you HAVE to choose it! - as long as it doesn't compromise the deck or any performances and tricks

Thank you Dainel for a master class on the corner short. It true that getting the corner just right can be hit or miss I can't wait to try your device to make a corner short it certainly looks like the perfect method.
Mad love Daniel, yeah I’ve been using the breather crimp and the file mostly. I’ve not been clipping since it’s way harder for me because I can’t see it in the middle. It’s challenging, but the best way to do this is to learn the feeling or try muscle cutting.

Oh wow! I did this with nail clippers the other day to mess with the idea of using a short card in my routines. Crazy how you uploaded this so soon after! This definitely looks cleaner than nail clippers lol. edit: looking at some bicycle jumbo index cards, the jack of hearts actually has 4 little hearts on the shoulder of his robe! amazing! Not true of standard index though.
I bet you could make it work with nail clippers, maybe a few clips to round it, I'll haver to try that! Also, in most decks, you can usually find good revelation opportunities in the court cards, the QC usually has 10 Clubs on her chest - 9 in my case!
I did have to round it. A few corners left but nothing anyone not looking super closely would notice. Thanks for the other revelation ideas! @@DANIELmadison
I got the Amazon device and it was pretty dull already out of the box. I learned a little trick with my vinyl cutter and using aluminum foil to sharpen the blade if it gets a bit dull. Totally worked! Just use a bit of tin foil folded over and snip it a couple times. Cuts like butter. Good luck guys! Great video DM👍🏻
You can use the Black Mariah as a way to throw a card in the deck as you dribble and locate their card. As you dribble there is slight pause once you get to the short corner, you can throw another card in here. Or use two Black Mariahs and dribble twice, once face up and once face down to sandwhich their card with two random cards as you throw them in
Yes! Another section that I cut from this Masterclass that is in The MAD System - however, I didn't use RF, I made a gimmick which has the QS stuck to the force card ( at the bottom ) - so that they see the 4H in the Flicker / Riffle, which then instantly vanishes. The card/s are a little thick, but it works's wonders. I love how the RF allows you to hit this with ANY card 👏
What an amazing Masterclass!!! Fanx!! Just purchased your version of Expert At The Card Table book to show support. Going to be busy over the weekend working on creating my own Black Mariahs. When will you Black Mariah device be available? Fanx again!!

1:35:36 having one corners rounded on index and one on non index, let's you use as an assistant key card whether the deck is face down or face up, depending on your performance or need
Yes, great idea! I cut an idea out of this Masterclass where you cut every corner from a double-backer, so that you can cut to every Ace, and double-turnover every time in a similar way to 'The Trick That Fooled Houdini.' I plan to come back to that for UA-cam soon!

A quarter way in, but I can’t wait to finish the rest. Good to see you back at it and in the new studio brother! I recently purchased a clip so I can make a BWD svengali but I’ll def need to start adding a black Mariah
FANX Brother Dane! It would make a much cleaner Svengali, but the handling changes somewhat. There's a OOTW idea that I cut out of this Masterclass where you clip every Black card, but its a lot of work for a trick that we can achieve without all of that effort!
@@DANIELmadison yeah I was going to trim the cards down by a millimeter as well. That way it would function more like a Svengali. But I definitely am going to start adding a Black Mariah’s to my everyday deck.
52:38 you could use this idea to, if you've set up the deck, have three force cards. The one above the Black Mariah, the Black Mariah and then the one under. So you could let the participant choose the top or bottom when you stop, or have one participant remember the top card, another the bottom (either showing the queen or pulling back) Or even do a force of the top, have one member remember, cut do again showing the bottom, with the pull back, and then cutting, repeating and showing the queen. (If worried about the discrepancy between first being the top and other being the bottom, could easily justify by just tilting it a bit when dribbling and saying 'we will use the bottom as I can see this (being the top) card. Sorry if doesn't make sense or spamming the comments (seems I'm first to comment here, guessing because it's late?) but this is giving me sooo many ideas. And I want to share if it will help anyone else.
What a great principle! Received my Mariah tool today. Once you get the “feel” of the corner, it’s crazy easy. Oh, an idea, l cut all 4 corners. It’s still relatively invisible and is easier to riffle to from any corner. Thank you!!!
Madness! Great idea, if you do this with a double-backer, and have it above all the Aces, you can cut to the Aces, apparently one at a time, as every double turnover replaces the gimmick on top of the next Ace whilst offering the cleanest turnover - I hope that makes sense!
Just did a trick where I forced the short card and had them shuffle it in. I cut to it on the bottom by doing the tapping method to get the little injog and copped it off the bottom and showed the bottom card. Then I snuck it back on and clicked the bottom and showed it. Really simple but effective method! Also this was a poorly made corner short that I thought looked too obvious but they didn't notice
19:58 depending on what you're using it for, I'd imagine if it is near the top or bottom and you can't find, you could do a cut (whatever type you prefer) which would put it towards to center. It wouldn't work if you had the participant shuffle or something, but if you're just needing to find the card, if you do a dribble and don't find, just continue what the observer thinks is you just playing with the cards, and do a cut, then dribble again. Just an idea for others
You could always throw in a "are you satisfied or do you want to throw in a cut and complete" in there if you can't clearly see it after they hand the deck back or place it on the table or whatever.
Much as I prefer not to use gimmicks so that I can always do anything in my repertoire, it's very tempting to force a gaffed card so that it can easily be controlled even if a spectator snatched the deck to shuffe it themselves. Not that that happens very often, but it pays to be prepared!
Yes! Me too, but I've come to collect a few 'advantages' like this so that I always have something ready, and it's perfect for that moment, when you get a challenging participant!
26:20 Tap in the Hand - to me it looks like you Point out that your Spectator did an overhandshuffle. Some line like: you Shuffle the cards“ while tapping could work.
Similarly, I would double a 9 of clubs. Double the card stock on one card, and you can feel it. Plus, if your magic is focused on one card, it gets just a bit dirtier than the rest of the deck and you can cull it from a spread easily.
Yes! This is also something that I have played with, but I stopped using it for a few reasons, mainly because it developed into something I call 'Substance' which is also in The MAD System, whereas a specific card can temporarily 'stick' to any other card in the deck. But even that, it does get in the way of some false shuffles and moves too... But I'm still exploring and learning!
57:14 using the Fall Force, how do you keep people from just picking/naming a random card instead of what they actually see? The previous one, you can show the person and others, so there is at least confirmation if the person picking lies or just names a random card? (Might not be a problem in real life, but I've had several times where I'm going to have someone pick a card and before they even can be forced or even fairly pick one, they just name a card. So I can imagine someone doing here too? Maybe I'm worried about nothing, or maybe I need to learn better audience handling and picking? IDK
That’s why you always keep an Advocate on you. The actual answer is to learn how to judge your spectators. Do a trick where they have a tiny bit of control but can’t actually screw anything up. If they do what you tell them to, you’re good to try these riskier tricks. If they challenge you and try to take more control than they should have, stick with foolproof tricks where they don’t have any control at all. Or, if they’re too confrontational, treating it too much like a challenge, stop doing magic for them.
I think it comes down to knowing your spectator a bit and really selling the idea of "seeing a card that stands out to you, let a cart jump into your mind." It makes the performance more interesting, but also ensures that if they're the type to play along, they'll be honest about that.
I should have mentioned this, but this is something that I have only ever experienced once in my life, and it was with a different trick where I showed 26 cards, to have them mentally select one, and they chose a card that wasn't even in there! It was confusing for me, but I learnt that there people out there like that. @augustdeer is right though, my Advocate / pocket index is always on standby for when a trick doesn't quite go to plan!
If I were given four weeks to live, and if I were given one wish, I’d spend one week following DM around as he performs and just soak it up. I want to be at his level so bad
@@DANIELmadisonLol, you’re probably right. Hey Daniel, what’s your favourite cover song? Mine’s probably the Oasis version of ‘I Am The Walrus’. Liam’s venom spitting vocal along with that classic Oasis wall of sound. Perfect.
It hardly matters who first did anything, because often "great minds think alike", and stumble "independently" on the same idea. I believe in focussing on what the teacher is teaching, rather than to scrutinise the provenance of a method.

I should have mentioned this! It doesn’t get in the way, or at least it hasn’t effected my shuffles in any way - so far!!
@@DANIELmadison thank you so much for your reply. And great! I'll have to order soon.
26:20 Tap in the Hand - to me it looks like you Point out that your Spectator did an overhandshuffle. Some line like: you Shuffle the cards“ while tapping could work.
YES, great idea, perfectly justified!
Fanks for the gift
You're welcome! x
@@augustdeer perfect answer, fank you!!
@@setscet yes yes, if it were an option for then to just think of a card, we wouldn't be inviting them to look into the deck 👍
Mad is mad at sales 😅 5 minutes of selling a corner clipper is a masterpiece! I've already wanted this one 🤣
Ohhh
DANIEL MADISON!!!
If I were given four weeks to live, and if I were given one wish, I’d spend one week following DM around as he performs and just soak it up. I want to be at his level so bad
Damn bro
Any updates when the device will be available again on your site?
The one from Amazon, as is, cuts terribly :(

Imagine going out of your way to not say corner short.
But 'The BLACK Mariah' sounds so much better!
@@DANIELmadisonLol, you’re probably right. Hey Daniel, what’s your favourite cover song? Mine’s probably the Oasis version of ‘I Am The Walrus’. Liam’s venom spitting vocal along with that classic Oasis wall of sound. Perfect.
You said 1ml but the other link is for 4ml .is 1ml correct?
🤟🃏❤

Noooo I used this for years. Now everybody knows :(
I know why you hate real shuffl3😂🧠☄️
The struggle is real x
You're very loveable.
Why FANK you kindly 💛
If I’d play a drinking game each time Madison releases something he thinks is original, I’d be 10 times dead by now.
Respect the 🐐
We all stand on the shoulders of giants my friend, nothing is original
Everything is a remix and Daniel Madison is a genius fucking DJ bro. Let him cook.
I don’t think he’s claiming originality here. It’s the depth of the explanation and his insights that make this so powerful.
It hardly matters who first did anything, because often "great minds think alike", and stumble "independently" on the same idea. I believe in focussing on what the teacher is teaching, rather than to scrutinise the provenance of a method.
