I can see your point but Ken Raper was his real name . Back in history the name was a variation of the names Roper and Roaper all of these names were given to anyone who made or repaired ropes for a living . Unfortunately the Raper variation took on a whole new meaning over the centuries same as the name Karen nowadays .

Roper , Roaper or Raper are English surnames for those who made ropes unfortunately Raper took on a whole new meaning . A more modern example is Karen . When I was younger I dated at least two women called Karen and they were totally unlike the modern namesake .
I felt bad when A Kid lost a match, because his opponent could say that they beat A Kid. 😦
fun fact: a "sexton" by definition is a gravedigger or a cemetery manager, so The Undertaker could have been know as "The Sexton" and his gimmick would have been the same

Over the years names become totally different to their original meanings for the obvious instance Raper this was a variation on the name Roper or Roaper men who made ropes . A more modern example Karen a girls name , which used to be fine , which is now given to any obnoxious woman .
1: Mace legit was a good name. The others...not so much
2: Gable turning into Shorty G for JUST the Corbin story was actually a smart idea. Have him lose at first, then "embrace his height," come up with a new plan as Shorty G, then win. After the feud, it should've been dropped
This needs a part 2 because those names are so insane it almost difficult to be taken seriously down the line.

But seriously, the ONLY reason majority of these names are “worst” are because the wrestler never got over. When you look at talent from 123 Kid to Goldust to Doink and even The Bushwhackers are equally terrible names…yet somehow some way they all prospered only because the wrestlers were that damn good!!
That's the thing though, many of these names WEREN'T designed to get over. I mean, could you imagine Issac Yankem vs Duke "The Dumpster" Droese headlining Wrestlemania? As soon as Glenn Jacobs became Kane he was WAY over and his legacy cemented. Same when Stone Cold had his name changed from The Ringmaster. Names are kind of an important piece of the puzzle.
Sometimes, think that dustin Rhodes was the american nightmare and then he became goldust, not so soubding in name but he made it work, the name was not design for succes as you said but the wrestler makes the name and owns the gimmick, as the other guy was saying, take undertaker, if it was taken differently or if it was any other guy other than Mark Calaway the gimmicks might not have stick we think undertaker is a good name design for success because we already think is cool but back in the day an undertaker eas just a creepy guy at a cementery name wise, Mark made that work.

I’m not a fan of the Katana Chance name on the main roster. WWE would’ve got lucky by not getting sued by NetherRealm Studios (the team behind Mortal Kombat) over the Katana name because I prefer her real name instead. That name was terrible. Also, LA Knight as a dollar store version of Renee Dupree as a member of the Maximum Fail Models. In the words of The Hurricane: What’s Up With Dat?

When I first saw the name (he was in the ring cutting a promo) when I turned on NXT one day in about 2021 after having not watching it since probably 2017-2018 (not knowing he was a Steiner), I said "Who the FUCK is this Jersey Shore jabroni?!" and changed the channel immediately lol. Definitely respect his work since I've seen more of him, and of course his lineage, but always thought the name was a cross between a LeBron James wannabe and a Tough Enough reject lol

While WWE should have changed Ken Raper's last name (Jim Ross sometimes called him Rapper as a last name.), Ken Raper always had this name when he was wrestling in Memphis. So, it was either Ken Raper himself or whomever was the booker at the time in Memphis Wrestling.
Edit: Ken Raper is his real name, died in 2022. Oh, and this is not the only time in history that a famous person had the last name "Raper". Kenneth B. Raper was a mycologist (Study of fungus) in the 1930's.
If only Ken Raper ever won a match, he could have tried his “squeal like a pig” gimmick on his downed opponent. Pat Patterson may have done the job.

Before I took my first bump, the promoter, who was an Elvis impersonator, thought I was one of the wrestlers and wanted me on the show. Said he was gonna give me the ring name "Jimmy Bakerton"
