If McMahon didn't cancelled the WWF Women's Division, Aja Kong or Bull Nakano would've dominated the division as a top heel.
I always felt that the TNA Knockouts deserve a lot of credit for keeping women's wrestling alive when WWE was just abandoning the division completely and they showed just how popular they could be and do styles and bumps the guys good. Especially Daffnie who deserved a good run as Knockout champion.
Yeah the Gail Kim Awesome Kong saga saved women's wrestling that time. Imagine even talent like Molly Holly had to do Happy Holidays matches
@@erinpilla Kim and Kong saved womens wrestling. They were always the highest ratings and well deserved. Some of the best wrestling ever on Tv.
@@tonycc4347 as a wrestling fan, I kept hope because of that feud
Low key, the WWF Women's division would have been fire if Vince didn't screw it up.
Breh I stg I was thinkn the same
Question is though would the fans have actually cared or just used it as an intermission/bathroom break, I never got behind the women matches since at that time or years prior they had G.L.O.W. (Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling) which is where some of the talent came from (even my sisters watched GLOW) but once some went to the WWF they didn’t care
So it was a 50/50 toss up
@@maxpayne7312 The way they were booked property would determine the way the fans actually cared. Over time, they would gradually grow into a person's character if frequently pushed on TV.
If you watched joshi wrestling in the 90s they probably scared the hell out of Vince with what they were doing in Japan some of the stuff they were doing was pretty gnarly even by today’s standards. Considering Raw was only an hour I doubt he wanted a woman’s 20 minute show stealer taking away from his top guys. I mean realistically I don’t think it would’ve worked at that time at least here in the west, society was something else back then and the way they went about it with the divas was the right way to go like it or not should it have lasted as long as it did? Probably not but it was the right move for the late 90’s to the mid 2000’s. I don’t think those Japanese women were strictly under contract to the WWF I don’t think Vince is the type to push wrestlers working his shows that are mainly working for another promotion I think the only women under a full WWF contract was Alundra and maybe Luna.
Who Ivory?
Not many others came from GLOW.
No wonder Madusa trashed the WWF Women's Championship on WCW Monday Nitro. It may have put her at odds with WWE but if the company wasn't going to support women's wrestling, then why should she care?
Exactly, they scrapped the division. She scrapped the pointless title.
@@CornBreadtm1 worse part is wcw also did not support the women division so it never got off the ground like it should had
@@Marveryntrue.. but at least she had a job with guaranteed money
To be fair, WCW did the same thing in 96/97.
I would have loved to see Manami Toyota in the WWF during that time.
Vince would have named her Harriet Honda.
She would outshine the entire roster and that why vince wouldnt let it happen.
Vince low key hates women lets just be honest given all whats come to light he hates womens wrestling as much as he hates tag team wrestling
Given his childhood that would make sense.
@@MrDp115Agreed
Women’s wrestling does suck though.
Legit he really does. 😂 😂 If sexuality and attraction was a choice, he'd no doubt would choose to be having scandals with big sweaty men instead. 😂
@@Stumme-40203 you’re worthless.
As a kid, when I saw they went away from it and I saw Alundra throw the women's title in the trash, it broke my heart. She was one of my favorite wrestlers in the 90s.
I was mad when he stopped that because I was in love with Bull Nakano 😍😍😋
She was thick tho
Same. I wanted her to slap me about and treat me rough! 😅
They really didn't have alot of female wrestlers from 1993 to 1995 in the WWF back then now WWE. & it's truly a pity & shame that Luna Vachon never got pushed to be the WWF Women's Champion.
Sable was to blame for that. She refused to drop the belt and intentionally lied about not bringing the belt with her, whenever it was brought up for her to lose. Sable was only trying to market herself in hopes of a Hollywood career. Sable was a horrible person professionally and personally.
@@alanguages yes being how she cheated on Marc Mero.
@@alanguagesThat's a problem. Luna could've been marketed as a monster heel for Sable to overcome. Remember people buy tickets to see Sable. So instead of another woman Marc Mero became that heel. Burying his career in the process.
The Women’s Revolution started in Japan in the 1980s/1990s with Manami Toyota Akira Hokuto Bull Nakano Aja Kong and other great Joshi
It actually started way earlier than that, believe it or not. Mildred Burke, Mae Young and a small band of American women toured Japan in the 1950s which led to the development of the whole scene. The All Japan Women promotion shown in the video started in 1968 and produced stars like Mach Fumiake and the Beauty Pair in the mid 70s. Bertha Faye was wrestling in AJW in 1978-9.
Vince was too busy having the women doing "favors" for him in the back than to let em on TV
I remember watching the match where Aja Kong broke that other woman’s nose. The camera panned to her face and it was a pretty knarly sight
Long before a certain Nia Jax/ Be my Lynch encounter. Now that would have been an interesting clash..Someone Nia couldn't push around.
Its so crazy to think that the women were treated this way. Especially compared to now that the women are top stars now! They bring in the money!!!
I've spent the last few years rewatching everything WWE had on-demand from 1985 onward and when I got to the mid-90s, I gotta say, despite the limited women's roster, the weak fan response, and the countless rematches, the Bull Nakano and Alundra Blayze matches were way ahead of their time and better than most of the men's matches during that era.
It was the second time the WWF got rid of women's wrestling. They also phased it out in 1989 for a few years. The fact of the matter is they didn't have the depth to really do much with the women back then. They only had about a half a dozen wrestlers. Right now they have 70 or 80 women wrestlers working for the company but I still think they are struggling in terms of talent, keeping them healthy.
I think NXT has eliminated WWE's problem of not having enough talent. NXT is creating so many good up-and-coming wrestlers that WWE regularly releases great talents just to bring in fresh faces. Those released talents then go on to sign for AEW or elsewhere.
Yeah I remember some having problems with larger women as well, let alone today, Nia Jax is dangerous anyway. The push in every field for women is annoying. Better comment than vid, so thanks. Bull fails drug test but setup lol many used drugs anyway.
Do miss when they could be attractive. 3:04 women's hell in a cell sucks as they lack the strength. There are indie circuits that routinely have women wrestle men outside of chyna as well. There's also women's shows like the awful Women of Wrestling though I believe GLOW was better.
I think both incarnations of WWE’s Women’s Division so far still pail in comparison to TNA’s in the mid/late 2000’s and TNA’s Women’s Division even got better again in the last 5 years
Big mistake by Mr. McMahon
The women’s wrestling revolution began in Japan from promotions AJW JWP and FMW during the 1980s and 1990s I’ve been blessed to see all from 1980-Now
My man, women were drawing as far back as 1954 in Japan. AJW actually started in the late 60s as a successor to several other womens feds and produced big stars starting in the mid 70s. There's an unbelievable depth of history there compared to the mediocre mess we got here lol.
Many girls forget that Mae Young was the first woman to compete in MSG.
Women shouldn't be wrestling like men. This isn't sexist it is just identifying differences and identifying they should be treated differently
how many channels
do you narrate for ?
I was a kid at the time and I did not care and didn’t even notice when the women’s division vanished
Same , I only remember Blayze vs Nakano match from Summerslam 1994
Or maybe because it never drew a dime!
Shame beacse the ladies brought over from AJPW and Toyota and Hokuta were putting on matches that were far superior to most of the men in WCw and Wwf at the time
Aja Kong main evented the Tokyo Dome with 30-40k in the crowd just a year before the match in the thumbnail. That's more than twice as many people as WM11 a few months later. WWF literally didn't ALLOW them to draw.
oh yeah that Mable/Diesel main event needed extra time for all of those fans who flocked to see it
Woman's wrestling is always relevant, glad nowadays they get a big spotlight for the most part.
Bull nakano was a beast
Madusa's strong style was what made her so badass!
After Wendi got fired, I saw her wrestle the main event at a local indy show.
Vince is a massive hypocrite to release Bull, but let Shawn Michaels (who was so hopped up on pills and coke during this time up until he blew his back out and had to take a 5 year hiatus to heal up) a run with the title and the Clique to run roughshot on the promotion backstage)…
Also I think Sherri Martel was kicked out at the time for being caught with weed or failing drug test because of weed
It was AWESOME We Were All Robbed!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬
Criminal that Luna Vachon wasn’t credited at the beginning of this……
Given what happened I can definitely understand why Marcus trashed the WWF women's title on WCW t.v.
1:15 "Reportedly renaming her Alundra Blayze" No, it's a fact. That was and is her ring name in WWE
I wanna to see Luna Vachon Vs Sensational Sherry in the 90s omg that storyline was on fire, and bomb they basically cancel and let go both of them. Like wtf! I also would love to see Luna be womens champion she would been an awesome heel womens champion but we the bimbo Sable week after week. It got boring.
I read somewhere that Network and sponsors complained that the Women were "Top Violent"
Vince never liked women’s wrestling
Only thing is Nakano, Faye (a joke of a character), and Blaze were awesome they also made up the ENTIRE roster😢
One of the stories I’d always heard was that Alundra Blayze had her time of the month when wearing an all white singlet and use your imagination. Vince was so disgusted by it, it was a big reason he slashed the division all together.
the womens division is good now with triple h in charge
As much I like female wrestling watching them wrestle look like I’m watching them slow motion compared to men
You should check out Japanese women's wrestling. They are not slow at all and have tremendous moves.
VKM never respected women. Which is why under his reign, they had a hard time being taken seriously.
there was a division on the 90's but the real revolution was in 2015 just look at the wrestling
Actually, they recruited too many Japanese women wrestlers who really couldn't speak any English in order to fully engage with the WWF fans in the US. So there were no other American female wrestlers at the time? Only Alundra and Heidi Lee Morgan?
LPWA had all kinds of them. I've watched on those wrestling shoots that they (US women wrestlers) have had problems with Medusa in the past. This would explain everything about the mid-90's women's division if she had a significant part in the recruitment of the female talent.
TK should do that
Charlotte reminds me of Madusa quite a bit, both in looks and wrestling ability.
This is only from Medusa’s version..if we look at the Matchs..wwf had plan to make aja kong beat Medusa she was booked strong for that…but Medusa refuse to drop the tittle..she went to wcw with tittle and put it in destbin..
And wwf endured up scraping the entire women divison
Stop slapping Alundra, ref.
I wonder who the WWF official was that Madusa was sleeping with?
Just because 'WOMEN BELIEVE', it doesn't mean it is true!! Watch out for the words used!
No matter how you look at it, in the end Vince screwd Vince.
And if you book Aja Kong, you know you're getting that wrecking ball backfist. If Aja Kong was attractive and stiff, there would be no problem (Jackie Moore comes to mind)
Wasn't really hit plan simple that time
during the clip you see of Madusa and Nakano fight; at 02:06.... that was near the climax of the match but PLEASE pay attention at the faces in the crowd. They are just BORED out of their minds because they were not ready for this yet. As Marty McFly said:
I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it.
World class lol nobody knew who they were the Women's division sucked and with all do respect, how could they compete with men at that time. and thats the same case even now they still can't compete with the men's division.
You don't know what you're talking about. Madusa wrestled Heidi Morgan 6 times on tv because they only had Luna Vachon and Bull Nakano. And if your pointing to the survivor series invitational, that was the best of another company. And Rhonda Singh was a joke. Having a division with 4 women on contract would require cross promotion. And every time McMahon cross promotes, he burns bridges by not showcasing other companies stars properly. Why don't you watch the product instead of skimming other people's inaccurate video essays
Singh wasn't a joke when she was Monster Ripper. Vince made her a joke.
Why did WWF cancel its women’s division after Rckin Robins horrible reign?
Most importantly....when did Jerry Lawler become Asian?
Ooohhh please everyone knows the real women's revolution was in the late 90's and early 2000s. With Lita Trish stratus Molly Holly Victoria ect .
Woman's wrestling has always been kind of popular I guess.
Wasn't there at least 2 different wrestling shows in the 80's that was all female?
GLOW was one (gorgeous ladies of wrestling)
@@jonblazeinc
Alright thank you
None of those women listed sell tickets. It's nice to have on a show but not necessary. Like the cherry on top. Now a days people want to over do women's wrestling. And if you do, you'd end up with a bowl of cherries and not the sundae you wanted.
They did sell tickets in Japan which is why Vince booked them, they were hot in a foreign market. But yeah for some reason it didn't translate to WWF. I think the ultra short match times and lack of strong TV presentation definitely didn't help. They were booked like unimportant filler.
100% Budget Cuts & there wasn't interest with the fans. It's wasn't connecting.
The moment Vince ended the Women's Division with Blaze still the champion and forgetting she had the championship was THE catalyst for the Montreal Screwjob. He didn't want a repeat with Bret showing up to WCW with the WWF Championship.
Vince screwed Bret, HBK was a pawn.
4:06 "To protect his spot on the card" 5 seconds earlier you said that it was a top WWE official, now it was a wrestler. Which is it? Fake news from a fake channel
i dont think so its a budget cut… thats a lame excuse…
Vince really made a lot of mistakes with the women...in many sad ways.
If Vince had left his sexism and fears at the door, the women's division would have been amazing...instead, they pushed away all the legit talent and brought in T&A and turned the females into pitchy strippers...
Chyna brought women back to some level of seriousness, but even she was treated poorly. Powerhouses like Jaqueline were treated as gimmicks.
I love the wrestling of the 90s, but it def was horrible sexism towards women...
Now, to be fair...WCW did the exact s**t to women. When they brought in Madusa and the whole WWF title in the trash, they had a "womens division" (if you could call it that) and a title until it was quickly abandoned, and the women were turned into T&A to compete with WWF's emerging "Divas". Even a legit wrestler like Madusa ended up getting her t*tts pumped up and turned into eye candy and not taken seriously.
I also think TNA's Knocksouts do not get the credit that they deserve for the amazing job that they have aways done at showcasing female talent. TNA showed that women could not only take the bumps and do the high-risk moves, but they could also hang in the ring with men...Seriously, even today, TNA is still leading the way when it comes to their womens division being just as legit and promoted as well as the men.
WWE really should learn from that.

And yet Women’s wrestling still boring 🥱
Watch Stardom.
Fix his marriage, hunh?😒
This answers nothing lol
Women's wrestling made a comeback because WWE discovered that they could put athletic strippers in the ring.
According to Bruce prichard WWE is looking for women that are athletic 10s and looks that are 10s.
The problem since the beginning of time in women's wrestling is that they can usually only get one or the other. Athletic 10. Looks 4.
Or looks 10. Athletic 2.
Which is why now we have just a bunch of strippers in the ring.
Probably the most ingnorant take. The women now are athletes with martial arts, track, and gymnastics backsgrounds not strippers.
@@martonyomchale342They don’t move like it. 😂

What women's division? I remember exactly 3 women in the period you're describing. Who were all of them? You can't have a division with 3 full timers and the rest jobbers. Bunch of nobodies
Lioness Asuka a nobody 😂
@@duckmercy11 Who is that? I've been watching pro wrestling for 35 years and this is literally the first time I'm hearing that name. If they weren't famous in America in the 80's and 90's, the time period being discussed here, why would anyone watch them? You can't have an entire women's division with wrestlers on loan from Japanese promotions.
This editing is god awful
It isn't sexist to want to limit high risk moves for women. Men and women are built different and certain moves are higher risk due to their biology. You were better when you stuck to wrestling without politics. Wrestlewokia now.
Respectfully, you're wrong. The division at the time were already used to doing dangerous moves in Japan and fared just fine. Aja Kong is way tougher than most 'Murican men wrestlers.
@@duckmercy11 No. You are wrong. I literally have a Masters in this subject. Just because Japanese women do it doesn't make it safe. That's literally idiot logic.

It's so pathetic when a male repeats feminist tropes.
Not a trope if it's true.
It's a fact
All we hear is how great women’s wrestling is, meanwhile can anyone name 4 feuds that anyone gave a shit about. It’s always been boring and looks even worse when you’re in the arena. It wasn’t women’s wrestling that saved wwe in the attitude era
