The Banded krait (Bungarus fasciatus) is one of the visually most stunning elapids in the world. It lives in South and Southeast Asia. Banded kraits have beautiful yellow and black coloration. It serves as a warning to predators. This species mostly hunts other snakes, which it kills with a powerful neurotoxic venom. Because of this it is sometimes called Ahiraj (the king of snakes). However, when caught by humans, it is usually very placid and calm. Banded kraits hide their heads under their bodies when they feel threatened. The tail is short and blunt, and it resembles the head. Our video includes natural history footage of the Banded krait and also two rescues of this species in India.
