    So when I was there a little over year ago we had a thing called Pre-Load where we would train with the RSS guys waiting to class back up who got injured or rolled and some of the instructors who weren’t running a class at the time. That was usually 2 weeks. SAR prep next which was 2-4 weeks depending on what your numbers were for the PST then we went to RSS for 6 weeks, NACCS after that. A school, FRS and then SERE.

      @@PhDarien No, not yet. I turn 18 in March, graduate in May. Know this is what I want to do without a doubt. Just trying to keep my head on straight, focus on the things I can control - fitness, water confidence and finishing school. Your videos help keep the fire lit - thank you so much for sharing all you do and making this series. And Happy Holidays to you and yours!

      What’s your overall goal? A good friend just left my house an hour ago who was AIRR before he went EOD. I have a few friends in that category. Different jobs entirely, but need the same mindset.

    Always very interesting to listen to your information about how things in our community…I like that hat! Where may I buy one? Take good care, and hope to see more info! FYI…AWCS Darren Hauptmann was the LCPO at the surface swimmer school. It was a lot different for the surface swimmers in my day…Very non-standard trng, equip., etc…I agree SAR before NACCS isn’t too smart. The old pipeline wasn’t broken, but there’s always somebody that thinks they have a better idea…I was lucky to have two really good NACCS instructors that liked to PT!

    I have an SMT contract and ship in January it seems to me that the pipelines are very similar, but I was wondering what some differences are. Thank you for your videos they are always a lot of great no bs information.

      Congrats on your pipeline. Boot camp, corpsman school, NACCS, FRS, SERE and then you get your command. Once there, you’ll go through Paramedic training. I used to be in charge of our corpsman.

    I am Pensacola right now. I graduated boot late October and I’m in SAR prep right now. Do you have any tips for the 25 meter underwaters? I make it to the wall everytime, but it is hard to imagine myself doing it in full SAR gear and clearing my mask.

      Hey brotha, I’m going to MEPS on Thursday. I’m striving to become sort of the SAR community. Can you give me any advice?

    • @PhDarien
      @PhDarien  11 місяців тому +3

      That’s good that you’re there already. Doing underwater sprints is the same with and without gear. I can do the same thing without a mask or fins or fully jocked up. It’s a mental game. Get as close as you can to the bottom of the pool deck. That should help out tremendously

    Hey I’ve been looking at your videos I’m currently a surface swimmer and have been looking into going the aviation route. Physical wise how different is our school houses? Y’all have the leveled Pt right? The SP&C?

    • @Rev80
      @Rev80 11 місяців тому +1

      Also what can you say about fleet return guys? Is the process a little faster?

    • @PhDarien
      @PhDarien  11 місяців тому

      What compels you to want to do aviation SAR? The job is being a naval aircrewman overall. I’ve had lots of AIRR friends as instructors at surface SAR and they are the ones who said the intensity isn’t the same at all. We get who really wants to be there instead of messing up a ships quota for needing a swimmer. You can have your own physical standards that exceeds ours. I have a guy in my last command who was a CS and also surface SAR. He had to go through everything again and said our schoolhouse was much worse as well. He also learned more about the medical side of it. Fleet returnee students do have a timeline to meet with the Detailer and get classed up immediately throughout the entire process if they’re able to.

      not at all, nice to have sometimes when you raise you visor. 2000 hour in H-2's (look em up). get thin wire frames when you start flying. always pack a spare. I'm glad there wasn't any of this internet stuff when i joined. recruiter showed me a picture in a book, didn't know i had to be a swimmer until after A school. was young , broke, 140 pound. remember, if they did it, you can too. Fly Navy!!

    Does your family come with you to FRS? And if you choose west- San Diego will that be your duty station or do you still end up stationed somewhere else possibly?

    • @PhDarien
      @PhDarien  6 місяців тому +1

      It depends on how your orders are written. Most don’t have accompanied orders to the FRS, but some do. You may stay on the coast you train on, but could leave based on fleet needs. 90% chance you’ll stay on the same coast.

    Is going to these schools like JTAC and jump school, or trying out for devgru just based on luck? Or can you request to go to one of them

    • @PhDarien
      @PhDarien  10 місяців тому +1

      You’ll only get the opportunity to do that once you get qualified in the aircraft first. Going to Dev or SRT units will be something you do after your first tour as well. It’s not common to get, but it’s also not requested as much. People leverage reenlisting on their orders.

    Do you also train as pilots?

    • @PhDarien

      Their training is very similar, but they do flight school mixed in with some of our training

    • @nuancematters
      @nuancematters 7 місяців тому

      @@PhDarien so you don't train as a pilot, also? Rather, pilots train as pilots but also go through some of your training?

    • @PhDarien
      @PhDarien  7 місяців тому +1

      All navy pilots and aircrew have similar training. They have more training when it comes to actual flying and we do search and rescue training separately. We go through the same things just about until you get the your fleet command. That’s where you have mission-specific training or qualifications
