I agree; this is the best pickup in perceived quality I've ever seen going to 240p. The scanline interpolation effect reminds me of the CGA composite mode on old IBM PC.
lower resolutions on pc88 games blend the dither used to make "more colors" and as such, more colors are obtained when switching to 144p/240p, and adding scanlines seems like a bad idea
That happens because these games were design around dithering to blend with fuzziness of composite cable. That’s why when you choose 240p, video bitrate and resolution decrease and unintentionally, makes the entire checkerboard pattern lose detail and become solid and smoother colors.
@@ZetsubouMar you have to emulate the features of old video devices to get a good picture. Like trying to play a SNES on a smart TV... the TV tries to stretch the video to fit and it looks terrible.
the problem with PC-88 games is that the graphics quality often doesn't match the sound quality, as opposed to DOS games which look good and match the quality of adlib sound for example. But again, this is an early 80s computer that had a fairly high resolution for its time and was designed for business use, so game developers used dithering to make up for the low amount of colors available on the PC-88
Hi, Great video about one of the fondamental games in RPG ! Would you allow me to use just a tiny bit of it for one of my videos ? Of course, you'll be credited for your contribution. Feel free to ask for any other conditions you may have. Thanks in advance for your reply.
@@mgobd258 it's true, I could do it myself, but I don't have an PC88 emulator, I have no idea of the controls, there's probably no instructions in the game, and I only need 15 seconds max. It would be for an introduction to a test of Tokyo Xanadu. But you're completely right : it's the lazy way for me.
Do you have any idea how to defeat the Big Kraken at the end of the first stage? I can't even seem to damage it. Do you need a specific weapon or spell, like with the 100 HP fire elements?
I came here from Faxanadu - one of my absolute Fav. Games on the Famicom/NES.
you should try xanadu next. or well, falcom's extensive gaming library. faxanadu is one of their earliest english titles
me too

That fading in effect of characters in the intro is great!

The music is really something. Like you are exploring mysterious ancient ruins in silence...
It's really an incredible atmosphere.
Wow, this brings back some good memories.
ironically, this video looks great in 240p...
240p is 320x240, which happens to be a typical screen resolution at the time. So yeah, it probably was in 240p originally.

Xanadu первая игра с физическими Сценариями/Продолжениями. Сейчас такое называют DLC
Looks epic
@LordKarnov42 And Faxanadu is a spin-off of this game.
Okay okay, so this is a direct relative to Faxanadu for the NES, right? Like, Famicom Xanadu? I think that's right.
Longie_long and Legacy of the Wizard is the sequel

FaXanadu is more of a _gaiden_ to the series
It seems like you're into retro games but you should try Xanadu Next. Japan only release but there is a fan patch. It's siiiiiick doooood.

Alex D. Wolf if you have a pc88 emulator you can easily emulate it, but if you're not willing to play it by yourself that's another story

Wow what a wierd game. Lol i know its 1985 game, but gameplay feels unique
This sound reminds me of Capcom's pre-CPS catalog...

Six-pointed stars mean "magic" in Japan.
This aesthetic is even better than what became jrpg, totally off-putting, also turn-based is a limitation of the past.
年代物ゲームソフト第2弾。
Wow the first metroidvania baby
wow why does 80s japanese computers have better graphics and music and games
like this compared to the bards tale on apple 2 blows it away
Japan in the 80s was in the economic boom. Even the anime in the 80s were much better quality than most of we have today.
