    Thanks mate. Made the job much easier knowing what to expect. Changed mine out at 142000 kms. Didn't change strainer as mine was clean (I only use Shell Vpower). 25 minute job.

      Thanks! glad it was useful. Seems that shell fuel really prolonged the life of the fuel system 👌

    Good video. Before you do the job, perform these safety steps:
    0) remove the fuel pump electrical connector under the fuel pump access cover
    1) Remove the fuel cap to release pressure
    2) Try to start the engine; it would not start. This ensure the fuel system has been completely drained.
    3) Have a fire extinguish close by, just in case. You are working with gasoline
    4) Remove the negative battery terminal to avoid any short that create a spark.

    Hi do you know how to get the strainer off that’s inside the unit attached to bottom of the fuel pump? I’m trying to replace pump and filter but can’t remove the strainer from bottom of old pump?

    Why was the reason u changed that filter cause mine sometimes stalls while driving took it to the dealership and they can’t even find the problem it’ll turn off while driving all light on the dashboard turn on but it’ll start right back up could this be the reason fuel pump or filter?

      Its a regular service item, should be changed every 60k km, that's why I did it. Turing off while driving could be so many things one of them is a bad fuel pump. Without proper diagnosis it will cost a lot to fix it by throwing parts at it till its fixed.

    How did you know it was time to change it.
    I got a problem where my Kia Sedona dies while driving. Try to start it back up an it only cranks. Have to wait 10-15 mins sometimes 1hr b4 it will start.

      The fuel filter on this car should be changed every 60K km, you could find it in the maintenance schedule. I'm no expert but I would check the fuel pressure when the car wouldn't stop, if no or low fuel pressure I would change the whole fuel pump assembly. I don't think a bad fuel filter would case the car to die, a bad filter would case the pump to work harder and fail earlier.

    Thanks for sharing. Did you change the pump too. Or was this just a filter change?

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  4 роки тому +2

      I just changed the filter. If changing the pump I recommend getting the whole pump assembly (pump+filter), it's way easier to change as a whole unit. Disassembly of the pump unit in the video was not a pleasant experience.

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah it was overdue, service manual asks to change the filter at 60k but it didn't look bad when I took it out, I guess the fuel quality is good here. No I didn't change the strainer, it had some dirt that washed off with brake cleaner

    Was this for a Diesel or Petrol? is there a difference in the filter location and method of changing it?

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  4 роки тому

      This is a petrol engine. Sorry can't help you with the diesel, I've never seen them before. If you can't find a repair manual you can see how the new filter looks like from a parts store or the dealer, it can give you an idea of it's inside the gas tank or out.

    Sometimes my van will loose power when I start driving with then, the engine light flashing. Would this be 1 of the reason to change the fuel filter?

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  4 роки тому +1

      that is a symptom of a bad fuel filter or pump, but also it could be a number of other problems. Since you are getting an engine light you should check it with an obd scanner first. And a flashing engine light could mean there is a serious issue with the car, I wouldn't keep driving the car until its fixed.

    • @lehiramaine
      @lehiramaine 4 роки тому

      My mechanic can't seem to find the problem with it when it does happen. After about 5mins running my van the engine light disappears and runs fine like nothing happen. Thanku for replying back appreciate it.

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Did he get any engine codes with a scanner from the car in those 5 mins? An engine code would help since the issue you describe could come from any of the intake/vacuum sys, spark/electrical sys, fuel sys, timing/engine issues, and many more..... You might need to take it to another mechanic who's good in diagnosis or familiar with your van's make.

      With a Sedona that issue can be a 1001 problems.
      If you had it scanned did it give fault codes P0087 or P0088?

    I was always under the impression that the less liquid (more space == more vapore ) you have in the tank the more dangerous it is (risque of an explosion) .... ?!

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  3 роки тому

      Don't take my word on the matter since I'm not an expert but having any more than half a tank will cause you to spill a lot of liquid fuel all over the place. And you must work in well ventilated area to reduce the risk of vapors. Either way its a very dangerous job and would recommend taking it to a professional if you're not confident enough.

      @@ZakiGarage it was specially tedious on the fuel pump, b/c of the extra caution i had to take (wet rag to keep things cool, and slow drilling to avoid sparks) (that was on Mazda protege few years ago).
      I was looking into the kia b/c mine stalled --at stop sign-- 2 times in the past 3-4 month period, a dirty fuel filter might explain that (so far changed the air filter, it was really really dirty and the easiest )

    • @ZakiGarage
      @ZakiGarage  3 роки тому

      @@foufou33g Impressive work you were able to get it done. I would have pumped all the fuel out and let it air out with a fan if I were going to drill there. That kia must be neglected if the air filter got this dirty🤣, yeah fuel filter could be the issue. I would also do all the other maintained items (check with the OBD scanner, change spark plugs, clean MAF and throttle) and maybe try some fuel additive, could help with cleaning the fuel injectors.

      It is the hardest fuel pump I've seen true, but it is still part of the routine maintenance in the owners manual.
