Sorry for the sniffles, everyone! My nose and my brain seemed to be disconnected from the rest of my body on this one. #BeamsAllTheThings
Dave we still love you but you know bringing to the scene this beams engine and talking about the Celica... Boy plz give us this monster car you have!!!
@@mariosnikolaou5212 hope to bring you some Celica videos soon, or we may do a long-form video showing the paint and final assembly all in one feature-style video in the spring.
David Pratte Get well soon..
I thought Connie owned the celica but you are the owner.
I remember the gearing being a bit odd from seeing it featured in a few games like Gran Turismo & Forza. I think you hit about 50kph in 1st at redline, 100 in 2nd, 150 in 3rd, 200 in 4th, 230 in 5th, & 260 in 6th. So the first four gears are a bit tall, the last two being a bit shorter. My numbers may be off since I'm from the US so my conversions may be incorrect. A shorter final drive will keep it in the power band more often for sure
I can confirm steering wheel is on the correct side 😍🇯🇵🗾🇦🇺
@@callumb5184 thats the fuckin aussie flag

I have 2 is300 s and a spare diff. And can confirm that they are all torsen lsd. In fact I have never seen an open diff on an is300.

No Dave your driving on the right side😂
Haha, true!

DP: “Well I’ll be gentle to your lip kit”

Fun fact, the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is a rebranded Bridgestone Potenza Re003. Same tire, just a different name on the side!
the official tire of Might Car Mods #fanboying
@@speedacademy lol yep! I run them on my NC, they're a great street and autocross tire. But I've been able to over heat them on aggressive canyon runs and they get kinda squirrely. As a Street/Autocross/slow track tire they're great, but I'd think they would over heat fast on any big or tire heavy tracks.
Beakz_ I hope that’s a NC mx5, so underrated.
@@EH-mh4it indeed, they're starting to get recognized more for their tuning potential but from the factory they do live up to their B O A T name sake lol.
@@speedacademy I totally didn't know about this. Makes sense since BS own FS
I've got a beams converted 6sp is200, I found front strut brace actually made a huge improvement to steering response. Next I upgraded my front and rear swaybars to eibach, which transformed the cars corner behaviour dramatically and handled great even still on stock suspension. Later upgraded to hks coilovers and very happy with the cars handling behavior. Nimble, balanced, direct.
Fun fact. The Toyota Altezza was meant to the modern day AE86 of its time. Same engineer as the original AE86 and the JZA80 (Supra brakes are a bolt on too). Bore and stroke was 86x86 like the FA20. Asisin gearbox in the 86/FRS is based on the JC160.
Essential it's the ugly middle sister between the AE86 and the newer 86. Yes it's a larger sedan but with the right suspension mods is very coupe like with its handling. They are also holes in the rear parcel shelf for eye bolts so you can run a harness.
Can't wait until I can import one in Australia would be perfect next to our AE86 and 2012 86.
One thing the Altezza/IS had going for it was its double wishbone front suspension, as opposed to the FRS/86 with McPherson struts. Even the old AE86 had a variation of McPherson-type front struts.
supra calipers are not100% bolt on, they require offset inserts. its a relatively easy upgrade though
@@ixfxi close enough 😊. Doesn't need massive amount of work to fit the bigger Supra brakes.
@@Patrick94GSR had adjust cusco arms on my old IS200 (2.0 6 Cylinder Altezza) despite having the heavier 6. With the right suspension setup turned in really well.
technically superior to both
Mike gave me a ride along in the altezza a few months ago! What a proper car and driver!
I own a 1998 Toyota Altezza AS200 with a straight 6 engine, I love it so much. It's a car i hope to keep for as long as i can. It performs a lot better than one would expect, it's my daily driver and every drive is a sheer driving pleasure. And it's completely stock.
As200. Well you be living well then
I like the old school g-meter/suspension tuner hanging from the mirror. It gives a sense of your inputs and the cars response.
I've had this car *Toyota Altezza RS200* for 9 year, it was my daily drive...it's indeed a well built, sport model...its fun to drive, every time u drive it it's exceptional....it was sad to let it go( sold) last year...
How was it reliability wise? I'm a bit worried about parts since I'd have to import it
@@philspaghet it's reliable, that i can assure you!
Just basic maintenance, and it will last forever
These are Super common here in new Zealand, cheap as chips too, oh and we drive on the left which is right lol
Yep left side 'cause the steering wheel is right not wrong :P
Haha yeah bro I got mine for 1k
@@diezelwellington6990 I am so jealous right now
So much cheaper and easier to get then a is 300
I sold my Altezza RS200Z 2 months ago. By far the most fun car I have ever owned! I had HKS adjustables, hard race camber arms, poly bushed front suspension, new brake lines castrol srf react brake fluid, track pads, Nankang AR1 semis and a track wheel alignment with - 2.5 degrees camber all round I had the 4.3 diff in mine aswell. It was an absolute weapon on track. Definitely a car with a lot of potential if you have the money. And those Yamaha/toyota 3sge beams motors are phenomenal! They can take so much abuse. Ill definitely get another one someday. My only complaint with them is that they're a bit heavy for that motor
Damn idk you’ll see this comment 2 yrs later, but that sounds like one badass Altezza!
@@khronoh8577 thanks bro, it was a great car. Miss it a lot
Still have it?
@Ciel4 sold years ago to a good friend. He doesn't track it ,but still running strong over 350 000kms on the original motor now. I sold it at 270k kms
@@bhagvedsingh2147 that’s sick bro I low key want to either sell or trade my r33 skyline gts for an altezza. It’s non turbo and I can’t really daily it year round so I figured an altezza would be a great alternative especially because of how reliable they are.
Man I would’ve never thought you guys would have gotten one of THESE on the show!
The BEAMS is built by Yamaha. I had one back in 2000 in HK. The 2nd and 3rd are really long. Yes, exactly mod the final gear feels so different.
got an rs200 z here in canada recently. 6 speed 207 hp NA 4 banger is pretty damn great for under 7k. reliable, fast, gets the tires spinning and does not break the bank on gas. best daily driver a young man could ask for. gotta love it.
looking at importing one to the states now that they're legal, how's the parts availability and how is it as a daily?
@@bagfumbler could not be happier with it as a daily. good on gas, quick, reliable, comfortable, all that. downsides are mostly just that its not very good in the snow, takes premium gas, and really needs to be in the powerband (4500-8k rpm) to get going (for the 3sge at least). parts are good because lots are interchangeable with the is300s. lots of parts altezza specific parts in canada as altezzas have been here for a while, not sure how it would be for the US, but theres lots of these cars that were made so parts are not really something id worry about (especially considering how reliable they are). fantasic cars and super underrated, hope this helps
@@user-qf7nm9tr8wdid you safety it yourself? If so did you change all the lights to DOT?
Saw Altezza in the title, thought BEAMS and immediately watched the whole thing. I’m excited to get my Ae86 finished and finally together
I've got a friend who's parting out his BEAMS swap out of his 86. Lmk if you need anything
Talal Malkana location? I’m in Houston Tx you can reach me at @BCG_detailing on Instagram.
Can someone explain what a BEAMS motor is? I thought Altezza's came with the 2jzgte vvti?
Larry The Lobster in other countries they're called "Altezza or Rs200's" they came with a 4 cylinder 2.0 non turbo 3SGE Motor commonly called the BEAMS motor. Higher revving non turbo engine as opposed to 2nd gen MR2s that came with a 3sgte that had a turbo. It's a common swap for Ae86 Corolla cars . I recommend Wikipedia to learn a few more stuff about the BEAMS I love the way they sound.
Larry The Lobster also the IS300 in the US has a 2JZGE non turbo . Alot slower than a Supra 2JZ
This makes me miss my old IS300 5 speed manual Sportline that I bought new. Loved that chassis
Looks like soooo many Toyota’s at a track day!!!! Wooooot. Echos. Camrys. CT200h oh my!
Welcome to the Right Side! Miss driving in the UK where my left handed was delegated to shifter duty.
trd lsd 4.7 and flywheel does wonders for those cars
This is the next thing my car needs
I want that stuff now :/
and ITBs, gosh that would be a bomb
@@PostMortemor ye with a good tune
ITB are cool but the standard intake was very well engineered by Yamaha, few people see any worthwhile gains from changing the intake mani, itb look and sound cool though
Oh boy do I have an IS for you! I’ll be back up in spring with my 470whp 1jz IS300 !
I thought this car would perform better than the American version with the 2JZ. Glad you got to drive it.
Ireland is full of these cars drifting at crossroads at the weekend.
I got my is200 in brookeborough
❤❤❤ Altezzas are excellent sports sedans. I loved mine and hope to have another soon.
I like the Cross on a chain accelerometer that you have going on there... you are like Takumi with a cup of water.
#JesusGmeter
Such a fun car to drive and you guys made it look awesome! I know Michael won’t be able to leave it stock for long
I own this exact car 6 speed beams, but gun metal grey in colour and I have a sunroof which I don’t see many altezzas have. I’m in New Zealand and have owned it for 13 years. It’s my total everyday car. I love it.
Sweet and clean ride.
There's a guy in KW with a blue 2JZ powered IS300 wagon. He drives it as his winter beater. Summer car is an Mk.4 Supra of course. If you can get him on the show that'd be dope
First thing I did with mine was put a bucket seat in it, it's really easy to out corner the relatively flat back seats in these things,
My neighbor had the North American Lexus version of this car in blue. We used to do stupid stuff with it and the thing was a lot of fun to whip around
Had a is200 for 5 years, best quality car ever owned.
2:15 those are 2 mk1 Toyota Vitz! Love them
I've had 3 of these ( I live in NZ so theyre common )
Great cars and super fun!

I'll give you 3k for one
One of the most underrated cars
These cars are not really underrated.
nothing special about these cars
@@ixfxi Bro... 2JZ bro!!!
@@HOllyBOni this literally has a 2.0L 4cyl tho
@@TheDevilZii Yeah bro but some of them come with (NA) 2JZs and that's like totally cool and Fast and Furious and all that.
I see it has the after market Jesus meter. :D
Great vid! Got one of these in Z-edition myself as a daily. I like iet as a drivers car.
A Torssen LSD was an option from factory, which would have A01B or A02B in the VIN-number.
Have fun with it and let it rip! :D
Mines says A01B
@@michaelkosior391 then you should have a LSD from factory :)
Definitely want to see more once he does a few mods to it
Coming in 2020. Mike just updated us that he's ordered up a bunch of nice goodies from HKS, Cusco, etc.
This is too clean, I wish I could own one
I Love this car♡🔰
Geared it for the autobahn...........me over here in Germany flying down the autobahn at 2am.....love my RS200.
I have the euro GXE10, same j160 but a 2 litre straight 6. It comes with the 4:3 lsd and the gearing is nice, still able to cruise at 3000 rpm. A Cusco rear sway bar and the OEM lowering springs available new from Eibach improve the balance and roll quite a bit. But their geometry is a lot better and more adjustable than most modern cars. Lots of caster from factory, double wishbone front and rear.
The biggest problem is once you get used to how comfortable they are to be in, you lose motivation to reduce weight haha. The other biggest problem is that the electronic throttle makes the car a bit lazy, and you can't remove it without limp mode
These are awesome, the RS200-Z I believe? Designed by the guy who did the AE86 too if I'm not mistaken. Its a probably the best Lexus you could buy for the track. I'm real keen on one of these as a track car, that or an MR-S.
Lmao it's a toyota not a lexus
Such a cool car! I can’t wait till we can import them to the us!
you can! they are made by a company called LEXUS. The vehicle is elusive, but its known as the IS300!!!! THEY EVEN CAME IN WAGON!!!
ixfxi I’d rather wait for a properly preserved Altezza like this one. Really hard to find a clean IS300 in manual. Sport cross only came in auto too...
Michael got all the cool JDM stuff!
He's needs a GT350, tho ;)
Just got mine today with the blitz supercharger 🥰
Toyota Altezza woooooo
Don't popularize this car! I want to buy another one
hahah too late
@@kiwibruzzy nah I can find these clean for like 4k
earlier models do 160ks in 3rd. They should have torsen lsd stock, they go sideways pretty easily so they have traction control which you need to turn off.
I have a USDM IS300 with a BEAMS. It is a wonderful car, and with a couple suspension mods, these cars really wake up. If I am ever near Toronto, you can have a go on the right side of the car 😂.
Thomas West my tuner swapped a BEAMS motor in a old old as Toyota pick up truck.
@@TheBb6prelude the 3sge is actually great engine for track use. a lot lighter than the 2j too makes for a fun track car.
Who swapped the car?
@@SuprachargerMusic It was done by a shop in Portland. VIP Performance. I bought the car swapped.
Ugh this is one of my dream cars. Luckily not super expensive to get into Canada but limited stock already in Canada, and a lot of the auctions going on right now over-value these a tonnnn
I find it funny how those who drive left-hand drive say left is right and right is wrong. Us in Australia drive right-hand drive and when we drive left-hand drive we just like meh. Being left handed driving right-hand drive feels spot on for me.
You would have loved my old supercharged altezza 1225kg weight that’s thing was awesome build I made in Japan everything done to her.
Still my dream car ugh
10:36-10:45 beautiful l6 sound
I had one when I lived in Georgia (eastern europe), I imported from Japan, mine came with Tom's adjustable suspension, Work wheels, aftermarket exhaust. That's a proper driver's car, no luxury BS (leather/power seats, milion cup holders etc.) sweet high rev 3sge engine, you can turn it into drift car easily, you can order bolt on turbo kit from Japan for just 3 grand and you have reliable 300+ horses for every day or track use. engine is lightweight, much lighter than is300 with 2jz.
And the engine sits deep the engine bay that makes the car almost mid engine just like Mercedes McLaren SLR. I still miss that bad boy
va va gaumarjos! prava avige da mec altezzas vatvarielebdi 😂
Damn, now I need one even more! 😄
POWER OF SOUUND
my favorite jdm
I almost thought this was a Nissan or Honda! More Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus builds!
Rs200 is very balance nice car
Torsen don't work in the air, need a clutch plated lsd to keep solid uninterrupted drive
my mk6 golf's 3rd gear is like that also, it only revs out to 6300 but the speed at the top is more than 140kph.
Interesting,I had alot of fun with my is300,was converted from automatic to bmw m3 getrag 6 speed gearbox, was hella fun and kinda fast till 180km/h,got that speed very fast, then tried out beams, eeh in need of shorter gearing like a lot
Awesome awesome motor. Very similar to Hondas F20b motor. Both are 2.liters 90s high revving motors.
F20b is a much heavier physically bigger engine. Its more like a k20 before the k20
Love the G-Meter... :-)
They look so much better without the huge tail....
Cool dude, sweet car.
Am in Toronto. Where do I get rhd insurance?
Love it , want one . How many km, and price wise
2nd gear feels long? I like to do autocross, and from that perspective it's advantageous to be able to go 66mph in 2nd gear. I overhear people with 6-speed Miatas walking the course and having to plan where they'll shift up to 3rd gear, and back down. My 240SX and my Evo tend to run a whole course in 2nd gear.
For driving to and from an event, that Altezza is geared really dang short. It has an overdrive, but not much of one. The 6th gear ratio means that in a 70 zone (doing 75mph) the engine would be buzzing along at 3600 rpm.
Could a transmission from an IS250 or a GT86 go in that car? 2nd gear wouldn't change much, but they each have a taller overdrive.
Left is like wrong and right is correct, right is always right.
My dream sedan, tried talking many gfs into lettin me build a GTE version for their daily but never got any of them to sign it off haha
Just do it dude
@@NZbmxer0 I’ve already got a brand new truck, a custom c10 and a 500whp turbo 350z and 2 boats. I need her income to do it 😂
What kind of gfs you have man? They all own an Altezza
Also looking to change the final drive but can't decide between 4.5 and 4.8 anybody have any advice. My altezza is stock
Keemstar knows his motors
We need more of that Yaris (White w/ red wheels) that entered the frame at the very end of the video. Sure, that B-spec stuff is slow, but more rewarding as you have to keep the momentum going and really work for the speed. Plus, I like how small cars are "tuned" to go faster than their econo roots portray. Having 15 yo import laws vs 25 yo import laws in the U.S. really helps get the neat stuff from Japan a lot quicker.
I see Two of them!
DP aka the cone killer
Almost getting boat sick watching you hitting the corners hahahhahha... need coilovers on that baby!!!!..
Does TMP have open track days year around? It's like they are open to the public for free
Sounds like this has an open diff ? Owned 4 of these Altezzas and the best ones are the facelift with 4.3 final drive. Tracked it quite a bit and with the lsd it's such a fun car. Definitely does not do a 1 wheel peel like that when it starts sliding. Odd that it doesn't have an lsd coz all the MT rs200 has one as standard. I wonder if someone swapped in an open auto one in Japan due to a failed rear end or something.
Steering is definitely on the "right" side!
Do you guys have j160 gear box avalanche up there? I am looking for one.
When are the 4k videos coming?!?
Curious how the Miata survived the You tube drivers? Any parts breakage?
Its just IS. Numbers after are displacement designation. If it was sold as Lexus it would most likely be called Lexus IS200R to differtiate from 1GFE version sold in europe.
Currently planning in future to beams swap my is200, just need a non student looking bank account 😂
We got the beams rs200 an is200 i never knew they was a is300
Here in Europe we had the Lexus IS200 with a 2litre straight 6 putting out around 155hp. It was nice, but lacked power. The IS300 was overpriced, more than double the price of the IS200, especially here in Norway. (Edit: Thanks to @Nico van Duin for pointing out wrong horsepower number for the IS200)
Is200 has 155hp
Also IS300 are very rare and (although they built manual ones) mostly all of them automatic.
I still prefer the 2JZ-GE IS30 regardless. Maybe I'm just a fan of I6's.
i have 1 in the shed exactly same car same same colour same specs might need to dust it of and take it for a drive
the gears arent really long, theyre fairly normal too close for a car of the age and performance catergory. 3rd may seem long, but you get the joy when you shift to 4th.
Do you mind shipping that to me to cut up and shoehorn into my RA23? >_>
i saw one for sale , thinking about a JDM alteza or Silvia S13 both are stock which one is a better daily
I’m literally stuck with the same decision to make !!
Think I want the alteza
How comes toyota only put the altezza rwd an the sportcross gita 4wd
Planning to go to Tokyo auto salon soon?
Not TRD bodykit either (theres no such thing). It's known as an Elegance kit
True, just found out about that.
I got caught on that too.
It's a silver Altezza with an Elegance kit. There's not a heck of a lot special there (for Altezza standards).
If he had a black one that had something like a Qualitat or Neo (Legana) bodykit? That'd be something worth bragging about.
In NZ they're really nothing to brag about haha I've had 3! First had a genuine Vertex kit, second had the neo v1 bumper (Legana) and the third had the Neo v2 with elegance skirts and rear with the factory carbon fibre number plate garnish! Great cars but they're dirt cheap here so they just get abused haha
I would of shifted into the wrong gear haha super clean car tho!!
I would love to have an Altezza RS200 as a daily, but in my country we have a 35 year minimum import law(yeah it's even more ridiculous than America's import law).
