Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this UA-cam channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

They filmed this in September (for all those who are confused!). And yes, we get snow in September in Canada 😁❄ It's cold but beautiful!

Rain in Vancouver. About 150 kms east, starting in the town of Hope, the Hwy begins climbing and you have your choice of 3 different routes north and/or east through 3 different mountain passes. Therefore rain at the coast equals snow in the mountains. Most of October was dry, so snow in the mountains was either none or minimal.

"If it's gonna be this cold, it needs to be snowing." I mean you just can't argue with that logic. I'm actually kinda sorta maybe thinking of working in Banff this winter. I worked in Jasper and that's how I paid for a lot of my travels years ago (born in Vancouver so I'm a dual).

What a Kool van ! On my Ireland trip last year I almost rented one through spaceship van rentals. Rented a small hybrid SUV, bought camping equipment ...road tripped and camped throughout Ireland for nearly a month. Was totally epic :)
On another note... I can't believe some of these comments. People, just enjoy the video and quit telling them what to do or how they should do things and such. You are not the boss of them.

Kara, please do not put your feet up on the dash while the vehicle is in motion - especially if there is a passenger air bag. In case it goes off in an accident your legs will be smashed into your pelvis. Just sayin '. Keep on travelling!

The ironic thing is prior to your visit in September BC had been in another protracted dry spell that helped produce the worst forest fire season in the province's history....we were desperately needing rain to help knock that down. As you discovered we also suffer the perpetually highest gas prices in the country, which is even worse when filling a large vehicle. Glad that you got to experience some snow though - even during the summer there can be some harsh weather such as that on the Coquihala Highway that links the Lower Mainland to the Okanagan.

You crossed over two mountain passes, through high elevations, between the coast and Kelowna. There is snow on top of mountains, even in September. Travelling over mountain passes without snow tires is not prudent (and illegal in BC after Oct 1). If it is raining in Vancouver by late September, there is a good chance it will be snowing "up top". On another note, it is always fun to watch Nate's smile and voice get more strained when he is on the verge of a travel meltdown.

Kara and Nate: I live in vancouver and am avid camper. I have had many rvs. The broken awning is why most rental agencies do not to rent rvs with awnings. They are about $1500 to replace. You have to be very careful to close them up in wind or heavy rain. Also the law requires thay you have winter tires April to Oct on the Coquhalla hwy. Did your rental company supply winter tires or at least advise you you needed them?

      That wasn't expensive, 1.4 CAD/l is less than 1 EUR/l, dirt cheap!!

Hate to say it, but those short hikers probably won't cut it in the snow. You'll probably need an actual snow boot. (Especially in the mountains.) I'm Canadian.... from Ontario, lived in BC.... I've don't the drive across Canada 🇨🇦 4 times. 😉.

I agree with the if it’s going to be cold it should be snowing.

I live in Michigan. The worst thing you can do is pull off to the side of the road during a fresh snow storm and get out....especially just to play. Cars and trucks slip and accidentally hit cars on the side of the road and will kill people that are out of their car even if they are quickly changing a tire. NEVER get out of your car if you don't have to.

Hi again, I was born and raised in the Vancouver area now I live in Kelowna, so this video really resonates with me. The highway you traveled ( the coquihala) I've traveled hundreds of times and between September and March is usually snow because it's a high mountain pass. Always good to have snow tires. I hope you enjoyed your time there.

I'm kinda late but, lived in a RV a while (parked, about a year) & a neighbor told me right away to ALWAYS put in my awning if I left for more than an hour. If I was home & raining, etc. Lol? Not! Had a couple troubles. And I had a 'good' awning setup. Anywho... stay safe kids!
