Hello, Paul! Those items deserve a new "life", as they are beautiful rolling stock. I don't know about the silver set, but the E-44 is a beauty - at least according to my tastes, and Piko made quite some good editions of this machine. Moreover, as I saw in the pictures on the web, it was used also for freight and for passenger trains, so... a very good thing. There's plenty of pics and I think even films on youtube with it, so documentation material won't be a problem. Thank you for the video, I wish you an excellent new week!
Hi Chris, I dont like to have repairable trains in my junk box so decided to try and repair them. The jouef Silver train is not my taste but deserves to be kept in running order. I like the E44 although I dont run electric locos on my layout its an interesting Loco so hopefully I can restore it. Hi Paul, I have that set. It runs very well and is in very good condition. Yours is well worth saving. If you can squeeze in a Lima motor, the smaller version, it might just work. I don't have a Piko version of the smaller green loco, but have a couple of Roco and Flieschmann versions. They are terrific performers. I quite like the electrics with the pantographs, I just don't want to put the overhead lines on my layout. It would make cleaning a nightmare. Steven.
Hi Steven, I was bored and needed a project to work on, the Jouef set is interesting so saving it from my junk box seemed a good one. I donrt want to spend any money on it so getting 2 coaches rolling would be ok then if a suitable very cheap Lima chassis turns up it might be possible to get the lead Coach working. I will be happy if I can restore the Piko E44 and see it running, I like the design of it. It would be good to see your Roco and Fleischmann 44s running. My layout was made for Steam and later Diesels, so as you say fitting overhead power lines would be a nightare. All the best, Paul.👍👍🙏
Hi Paul, these E44 are not the best runners, but with a lot of extra weight (to compensate the huge flanges) and some TLC they can be great. By the way, one of them, the 0047, has really been running in the Soviet Union, mostly pulling coal trains. The Jouef is a classic electrical train. Motorising it could be difficult, even with a good Lima donor (the pancake motor might be to large). Pushing it with a French diesel locomotive good ve a good alternative, especially if you out a steering unit at the front of the train. Have a nice Sunday evening! Erik
Hi Erik, I tested the motor on the E44 and it sounds ok, but wont know untill I put it all together how it will run. It is light so adding weight as you suggest should help. I dont wanr to spend much, if any money on the Jouef train as its not really suitable for my layout. If something turns up that can power it I might try something. The wheel flanges are too big so I probably wont do much to it. Cheers, Paul.👍👍🙏
@@paulvozman842 The Jouef is indeed quite long and might derail in some of your curves. Maybe it's more suitable for a scratch build, using it to make shorter models? You could then use the drive unit on any shorter motor chassis and shorten the wagons to the same length. It could make an interesting multiple unit railbus.
@@railway187 Hi Erik, If I can change the damaged bogie on the end coach I will see if it runs ok. As you say it is quite long for some of my curves. I had thought about making them shorter but the plastic is very brittle and breaks easily so it might be difficult to do. I will be happy if I can restore the E44 its an interesting Loco.. @@paulvozman842 Such plastic is difficult to cut indeed, by hand probably impossible. Maybe Dremel can do it. A test on a small piece can be interesting though. I hope you can get your E44 running, it's a nice addition to your collection.
