I’ve had mine for over a year now and it started thriving when I started watering from the bottom. I left it in it’s nursery pot and about every 10ish days I stick it in a cup of 1/4-1/2 water and let it absorb from the bottom. It’s also below an eastern facing window and seems to love the morning light
@@boobearlou4136 In my case, I water mine about every 10 days or when the leaves feel a little soft...whichever comes first. If they droop then I know I missed the 10 day limit. It’s best to water this plant from the bottom but not heavily watered or the plant will start to rot and die because the soil is too wet/has too much moisture. This plant needs to dry out within a few days before the next watering. Watering from the top may cause the stems to rot as the roots are finer than thread. If you want to water yours from the top, avoid the stem area & lightly water close to the soil edge (between soil and pot). I give mine enough water from the bottom (only half the plant gets the water while the top half remains dry). In addition to fish fertilizer, it gets black coffee, black tea & some diluted milk (calcium) as a treat every 2 weeks or so. I hope this helps 🤗
I love mine. It keeps growing little leaves and it’s so much fun to watch. I’ve only had it a couple of months but the fact that he’s still alive makes me happy 😊
Hi Nick! I have a question/request: could you do like a "guide" for different window sides? Like which plants grow in a nothern faced windows, which in southern faced windows.. I don't know why I seem to struggle with this, so your advice would be really appreciated
Thanks for this, Nick. My issue was constant deformed leaves and cupping leaves. I found out the cupping is normal until the leaf matures, but mine was a hot mess. I read that the deformities are caused by a lack of nutrients, but then they don't tell you what to give it that would help! I gave up when it ended up with one leaf left. I see pictures online of other people's plants that are large and beautiful and I'm like, how?!
Try dried and crushed (preferably powdered) egg shells, and sprinkle it on the surface. It releases calcium, which I've read can cause leaf deformations.
Hey it’s calcium ! Tomato fertiliser works the best (I’ve heard) but can also use diluted milk (2capfuls for a glass) or a bit of Dolomite lime sprinkled on the soil !
Paris Stratford i was thinking to sprinkle dolomite around my pilea pepermoiedes & watermelon peperomia but still wondering if its really ok. do you have tips on how to put dolomit on the soil? like how much can i sprinkle? thank you so much ✨
thanks for the informative video! although I would've loved if you had addressed how this plant commonly suffers with deformed leaves. I still have no clue how to fix that in my watermelon peps!
You pretty much described the slow demise of my peperomia, as winter light started to recede from it's usual place near the window. Even though I doubly reduced recommended times between watering, during winter, the reduced light just meant it sat and sulked in any moisture given. So thanks for explaining the finicky nature of this plant. Mine has died, but I may try again in spring (southern hemisphere).
I had one that my puppy killed recently 😭 Fortunately I had two of them and the survivor one is thriving 🤩 This plant is just so pretty and yours is absolutely perfect ! Have a great day Nick 😊
I just got my first one this year and I didn't repot it bc I was terrified of killing it. I'm glad to hear I am doing the right thing. I heard that eggshells help with the leaf formation (deformation), I haven't seen any new leaves since adding eggshells but it had thrown up 3 more blooms.
If you've removed it from the nursery pot already, is it traumatic to then put it back? Also, what do you do with the lacewings after they eat the other insects? Would love to see a video on your "good bug" use. Thanks for your videos!
I bought one of these on a whim when I went to pick up some soil and I’m so glad i found your video one care! Currently I’m quarantining it because I’m very paranoid about pests but I’m glad I saw to not repot until I absolutely need to
Love your videos Nick and your Peperomia Argyreia is gorgeousssss! I have been researching and collecting peps for many years now. Mine did really well for a long time but suffered a bit during winter this year and seems like the soil was depleted of nutrients and a bit water resistant. It has 3 plants in the one pot and just seemed to outgrow it over the last couple months. I ended up repotting it today, went up one pot size, kept the entire soil/root ball together and just backfilled. Hoping it cheers up a bit after getting some fresh nutrients :)

Got my first peperomia argyreia and it's a variegated one couse I got lucky in a garden center. You're daving me here couse I had no clue how to care for it
My cat knocked mine over behind the sofa. I managed to get it back into the pot within minutes, but it looks traumatized. What do you suggest? (I'm not getting rid of the cat lol)
They are super easy to propagate from leaf cutting. I cut a leaf in half width ways and put in moist seed raising mix. I've seen people water propagate but I haven't tried that method yet.
Love your videos and personality 🌿 I'd love to sit down and talk plants with you lol I drive my husband crazy because he's not into them as much as me and I'm always taking about them lol.
I’m experimenting with propagating of some of the leaves. It’s a test of patience...2 ways I am doing it. 1) by leaf and stem with the stem in water. 2) by leaf cutting in seed starter soil in a sealable plastic container...they are kind of responding like violet leaf cuttings...
Terry Campbell Hi Terry! I’m also experimenting with propagating my Peps in soil in sealed plastic bag. Just like my African Violets! My mistake was to put 6 different Pep leaves in the same pot, so now that the babies are breaking through I don’t know who is who. Guess I’ll have to wait for them to grow up 😁. I haven’t tried Peps in water yet. Which way is doing the best for you? I don’t have a Watermelon Pep yet, but am looking for this Pep....
WOW yours is beautiful i recently got a very small one and it’s starting to grow mold at the bottom i’ve tried removing it but it keeps coming back, the plant is healthy otherwise i was wondering if this is stunting it’s growth? because i see lots of these plants with looong stems and few leaves whereas mine is kinda like a bush with many many leaves and tiny green stems
Hi Nick! Do you have any thoughts on why my watermelon peperomia would be putting out mostly wrinkly or deformed/wavy leaves? I noticed you have only a couple on your plant, but mine is only putting out weird leaves since I got it. The color is normal. I keep mine a couple feet back from a south window as well and in its 4"nursery pot, I think I water maybe once every 10 to 14 days but I've only had it for about 5 months. Sorry for the book. thank you lol! love your videos!
I have a question about this peperomia :) Why is My leaves curling wierd, and how can i reverse it? Is my plant doomed haha, bc fertilizer does nothing.
I noticed on mine, when the baby leaves start growing, they have a funny shape and as they grow, it becomes more of a round, less irregular, shape. But plants aren't perfect, so embrace the imperfections!
Question, yours seems perky and stems and Leaves. Bursting! My leaves are huge and the stems/ leaves droop ..any suggestions? Also. I enjoy you and your videos. Thank you
I have one and he's a happy camper! Growing tons of new leaves, they come out all deformed but eventually unfurl and all is great! it's about 6 feet from a south facing window, used to be on an east-facing windowsill. The leaves are medium sized, and strangely my sister's have massive leaves and it lives in front of a north-facing window. I don't consider it succulent, I will let about an inch of soil dry out and then drench it. I have bad experience with those types of apparently 'succulent' stems that are in fact not succulent at all (read: swedish ivy).
If you like a full plant and not one leaning only on one side, I find rotating my peperomia once a week to a different side facing the window so it stays full and doesn't choose a side.
What did you recommend for thrips again? I thought I heard you say green leaf swings (?) but that can't be right. The captions didn't appear correctly either.
Just got my first one with a Rain drop Pepperomia. They are in peat moss with roots coming out the bottom. You suggest leaving them in their nursery pots...how about if I move it up one size to a nursery pot? Sound ok? Thanks Nick. I enjoy your videos.
I have had my watermelon peperomia for almost a year now. When it first arrived, all leaves looked perfectly round like yours. But all new leaves since arrival grew like "little cups." Mine sits on a north facing window sill. I don't water unless it is completely dry which usually takes about two weeks after I water it thoroughly. I also fertilize it on a regular basis, once per month during growing season. I have tried both organic and lab produced liquid fertilizers, and neither made any difference.... What am I doing wrong?! Any help would be really appreciated.
I got one of these as a rescue plant (dumb me, I'm new to plants). And mine has fungus gnats, cupped/bubbly leaves, sometimes the leaves just straight up split themselves. I just gave mine a haircut and she's looking a little pitiful rn but she pushed out a bunch of new leaves so I must be doing something right? Idk 😂
Question since you have three of these, although I would apply this to many of the peperomias, do you find that the amount of light has an impact on the length of the petioles and the compactness of the plant?
I feel like no one really knows why this plant makes deformed leaves, and is just guessing. I tried everything and it just kept on making deformed leaves, even while thriving.
@@Christodophilus I saw that, too. But over time I tried fresh soil, fertilizer, crushed eggshells, never made any difference. The plant was huge and flowering, happy as can be, but still deformed.

Hello there. Just picked up a sad looking Peperomia from the store. There’s some leaves that are split and brown on the edges. Should I clip them out and if so, should I clip them at the base?
I ended up with 3 of these all in separate nursery pots. I wanted to put them all together. Now I question doing that. I had one I got semi bare rooted and it just slowly died on me. I am going to leave them be separate and display them in different locations.
Hello Nick. I bought one yesterday at a nursery. It already had brown spot in two leaves. I’m hoping it’s not fungal related. I hope that it has to do with just having been handled by too many hands.
I’m curious about the thrips you have in your home, where do they come from? I had a mealy bug infestation that came out of nowhere and only on one plant.
I just brought one home and noticed something tiny moving in the soil. It was reddish? There aren’t any webs or white stuff on the leaves so I’m not sure if it’s spider mites. Any help would be appreciated!! Should I just repot w new soil cleaned by boiled water?
I just bought a watermelon pepperomia but it doesn’t look quite like this, the leaves aren’t as rounded and there’s no red stem. The leaves fold. Are there different types or was my plant mislabeled?
Hi, Nick, there isn't much guides for Peperomia Peutolata and it's sad to say that mine just died yesterday. I salvaged the leaves though and put it on water but as of this moment, no roots yet and some leaves turned black now. God, I just killed another Peperomia
This one I didn't manage to keep alive. It was OK for a few months then lost a leave each time I blinked... I tried twice and gave up... we'r not meant to live together :-)
I Can’t tell if I have fungus gnats or thrips! Does anyone have a good video for IDing?! I just invested in new plants and I don’t want to loose them! I’m using mosquito bites soaked water.
Hope this helps, it's a link to Betsy Begonia's video on pests. ua-cam.com/video/N05z4s6LpUw/v-deo.html Summer Rayne Oakes has great pest info as well. Best of luck IDing and eradicating.
My grocery store randomly had 2! One much smaller and the medium size one i found hidden! I wish you could find one soon! It is so beautiful 🌿 its my second plant. First was a spider plant with 4 babies. The watermelon leaves r so beautiful. Good luck!
I have a question, so I bought one a week or two ago and my dog tripped it on the floor and it has some small slits on the leafs and I don't know if it will survive, does this happened to anyone and plant survived??
Well well this “costa rica“ . . Mine got huge leaves some almost as big as my hand. . Had these cups. . Fed her with calcium. . Sw window, light seems to fit. . She grows lots of leafes now, 80 percent dark green with hard structure. . I dont know if the calcium made her revert, no more cups but i wanted a watermelon. . 🙈 This plant challenges me. . .i do think its maybe a strange hybrid 😵 thats acting weird 🤔???
Holly Johnson Egg shells. Boil them first for about 20mins, I think. When cool down, grind them up until dust. Put it in the soil as you would fresh/used coffee grounds/tea bag.
When it gets droopy and soil is dry I water it. Then it perks up all happy. Then it starts losing leaves. What must one do to make it happy and alive? This is what I noticed about this plant.
I just bought one last month and now it is on the brink of death. 😭😭😭 The stems are very soft and leaves are very soggy. Am so upset as it was very pricey. I find it very hard to take care of. 😥😥 hope after watching this and applying your tips, I can still save it. Thanks

I have overwatered my Peperomia. The leaves are wilted and very pale. I hope it will come back. Do you have any suggestions to help it? Thank you.
I have this problem too, I’m thinking they’re soil mites... if they look like tiny reddish beetles
What did you buy and release in your house?
I just bought a watermelon pepperomia but it doesn’t look quite like this, the leaves aren’t as rounded and there’s no red stem. The leaves fold. Are there different types or was my plant mislabeled?
Is it a Peperomia verschaffeltii?
could you please make a video about peace lillys? mine does never bloom and has all the time brown tips on the end of the leave.
Same
Hi, Nick, there isn't much guides for Peperomia Peutolata and it's sad to say that mine just died yesterday. I salvaged the leaves though and put it on water but as of this moment, no roots yet and some leaves turned black now. God, I just killed another Peperomia
I bought one and it had a bunch of brown behind their leaves. I bought it to save, I just cut the best leaf and started to prop.
What was it that you said you used on it for the thrips, green something??
green lacewings
This one I didn't manage to keep alive. It was OK for a few months then lost a leave each time I blinked... I tried twice and gave up... we'r not meant to live together :-)
I love these! They do not love me. (Or I don’t love them correctly?)
I Can’t tell if I have fungus gnats or thrips! Does anyone have a good video for IDing?! I just invested in new plants and I don’t want to loose them! I’m using mosquito bites soaked water.
Hope this helps, it's a link to Betsy Begonia's video on pests.

Summer Rayne Oakes has great pest info as well. Best of luck IDing and eradicating.
I’ve been looking for this one locally for a while, I can’t find it in Maine 😫
My grocery store randomly had 2! One much smaller and the medium size one i found hidden! I wish you could find one soon! It is so beautiful 🌿 its my second plant. First was a spider plant with 4 babies. The watermelon leaves r so beautiful. Good luck!
what are green leaf swings? TIA
I have a question, so I bought one a week or two ago and my dog tripped it on the floor and it has some small slits on the leafs and I don't know if it will survive, does this happened to anyone and plant survived??
Mine just died. I overwatered, I know. Trying to propagate now.
Well well this “costa rica“ . . Mine got huge leaves some almost as big as my hand. . Had these cups. . Fed her with calcium. . Sw window, light seems to fit. . She grows lots of leafes now, 80 percent dark green with hard structure. . I dont know if the calcium made her revert, no more cups but i wanted a watermelon. . 🙈
This plant challenges me. . .i do think its maybe a strange hybrid 😵 thats acting weird 🤔???

Egg shells. Boil them first for about 20mins, I think. When cool down, grind them up until dust. Put it in the soil as you would fresh/used coffee grounds/tea bag.
Mine is flowering... it's crazy I live in northern canada.

Where can I cut dead/brown leaves off?
What caused the back one to curl?
When it gets droopy and soil is dry I water it. Then it perks up all happy. Then it starts losing leaves. What must one do to make it happy and alive? This is what I noticed about this plant.
I just bought one last month and now it is on the brink of death. 😭😭😭 The stems are very soft and leaves are very soggy. Am so upset as it was very pricey. I find it very hard to take care of. 😥😥 hope after watching this and applying your tips, I can still save it. Thanks
