Irving is trying to send a message to his innie. That's why he is constantly painting with black paint that elevator, and keeping himself up with loud music and coffe.
You should consider watching The White Lotus next, I feel it is right up both of your alleys! Not many other channels have reacted to it either unfortunately.
My gut feeling on Cobel was that someone she cared about was severed and she was attached to one of the personalities and wants to believe she can reach that person again. That's why she is obsessed with Mark and Ms Kasey. She wants them to remember each other because she wants to believe she can reach some who was severed. There is 0 evidence of that in any part of the first season, that's just want popped into my head while watching this episode.
There's some evidence - in her shrine there's a piece of medical tubing and a medical bracelet, with birth years and name suggesting it's her mom. Part of the evidence that she wants them to remember is that she steals the scented candle, and we know scent is tied to memory. That candle later appears in Mark's next wellness session.
Agree 100% And ditto Irv, with the painting, and dreaming of paint and maybe the connection of Irv and Burt..... I think the theme of the show is going to be "love conquers all"....or at least "love conquers Severance". And like you, it just popped into my head while watching this reaction, lol. Although I had suspected it before, I didn't fully put two and two together with Cobel.
@@TTM9691 To me it looked like Outside Irv is on his own investigation mission searching for someone who was sent down into the lower floors. So the whole theme being about love fits into that as well. He signed up for Severance, and has been constantly painting that hallway to shove it as deep into his brain as possible, to send it as a message to Inside Irv. He listens to heavy metal and paints all night so Inside Irv has issues with dozing at work, if Inside Irv dreams he'd obviously start dreaming about what he's been doing for the majority of his days for several years. The issues is they aren't allowed to have a proper sleep but it seems like the plan was starting to kind of work, with his black paint dream visions.
@@KolyoSofiata I guess, I just suddenly lost all my zeal for Severance (but not when I was watching these reactions). Apple TV really screwed up by not signing for a second season early on. Two years between seasons, it's ridiculous. How could they possibly sustain the quality? is the quality even that great to begin with? Because they've made us wait so long, I just keep seeing the same season over and over again, and I'm starting to pick it apart. There are things that I just go with, but annoy me a bit. Irv driving. Episode 7 is music party and melon party for Walken ;so do we need an egg party for episode 8? And this before the big waffle party? (which I didn't love; people say it's very Eyes Wide Shut. It reminds me of a scene from I, Claudius). We'll see. Ben Stiller directs most of the episodes for Season 1; he's only directing two I think for the second season. I've heard of some on-set drama (not to do with the cast, but show runner stuff). We'll see. The longer time goes on, the lower my expectations get.
So Irving is obsessed with the elevator going down, but we only ever see Miss Casey going down, and being apprehensive to do so. His outtie and Miss Casey both having such a visceral reaction to it's memory makes me think it must be horrific.
@@Csaba__ If I recall from other reaction channels I've watched, his music choice is common for people dealing with the same trauma in his past. Specifically that song.
I know you've already seen it but as amazing as this episode is, the finale is just next-level ridiculously brilliant and makes this seem kinda normal. Ha ha. Can't wait to see your reaction.
I think that Ms. Cobel is a Kier fanatic and thought she was being helpful in making sure that those who were severed remained so to keep any information about what they were doing from getting out. It feels sacred to her. She was angry because her loyalty and fealty to Kier wasn’t appreciated.
I like how baffled we are by how evil different people are in different ways and on different levels of authority. I like to interpret it as an organization with evil leadership just accidentally allowing other kinds of evil to fester in people throughout the organization just by accident. It trips us up seeing an evil person getting justice from another evil person who is evil for different reasons, but I expect that's what we're seeing. I love the "jaw dropped" counter during the dance scene. 44 seconds is really good, well done Mr. Stiller!
Anyone else wants Ms. Cobell/Selvig to actually be evil/ a villain? I think the popular theory that she wants to destroy Lumon from the inside somewhat makes sense, but because of Patricia Arquette's acting choices, this character is cloying in every aspect I really love to hate her, which speaks volumes to Patricia's acting skill
@@nugrahadwianggoro in the privacy of her own home? Maybe if Lumon knows she’s living next to Mark they would have cameras? I don’t know, seems too far fetched. I think she’s somewhere in the middle. I think she’s obsessed with Lumon but I think she might have known someone who was or is severed and is trying to see if reintegration works, whether it’s how Petey did it or by slowly introducing things from the outie or vice versa. Either she’s doing this for herself or to impress the board or both, probably both, somehow.

Oh, you absolutely know what happens! Even the creators confirmed it. It's rewarding workers with sex, but the whole thing is, of course, heavy into Kier worship.
Fun fact the dog who plays Irving's dog Radar also plays Tom's dog Mondale in Succession
Well I'm glad there's one crossover actor from my top two 2022-2023 shows lol

Omgggg please post the finale asap 😭 This show is incredible and I love y’all’s reactions!

My theory is that Irv used to be in Milchicks position before he was severed. Hence why he has memories of that elevator with the red light on.
"maybe I could take my own car... that way I could leave if I'm uncomfortable or afraid' man I feel you cobell.
The chemistry between the 4 actors/characters is obvious as the series progresses. ❤
i can’t wait to see you guys reaction to the finale ahh. i’m still not over how good it was
His wife’s story is heartbreaking.
The music choice for Irving will make more sense at the end of the next episode.
You can’t post it soon enough .
And I was so happy that they realized they Irving was painting the elevator. Such a big wtf moment.
why will irvings choice make more sense later? i watched the series but i guess i missed this detail?

I hear "Diet Jesus" 🤣

That doesn't explain why she looks sad that Mark and "Ms. Casey" don't fully remember each other
I think she's a Kier fanatic but she hates Lumon for perverting the scripture or something

Random thought: The Board consists of Kier Eagen's brain commanding his throng from a jar deep underneath the Lumon Building.
Are you going to make us wait? Come on! Post the finale!
but episode 8 is titled "What's For Dinner?" and also please tell me the finale is what's for dinner because I need something to watch later

its a really great scene haha
