Carlos, I had tears in my eyes when you told about getting your driver's license. When you talked about setting your mind to do something, you can do it! I lost my dear partner of 20 years this spring. It got to the point I could no longer take care of her at home. I will make it!
20 years is a long time.
My husband passed in 1973 at age 45.
Eventually I remarried and divorced, but, here in 2022 we've had our 49th anniversary and there has not been 1 day without me thinking of him all of these years.
I've owned businesses, taught school, had careers but his soul is still with me.
I'm not longing or pining for him, I just keep the happy thoughts.
He was a professional musician and entertainer and had so many jokes, the memories of those joke have kept me laughing for nearly 50 years!😉😇
He was 20 years older than me and when I was filling out thanking cards for our wedding gifts, I said, "For our 50th Anniversary we're going to get GOLD gifts! Wow!! What a party we'll have THEN!"
Without missing a beat he said, "Well, don't plan a huge party because I'll be 96 and I might not feel like partying too much by then!" And we laughed because he always had a great wit and sense of humor!
@@contactjoy4140 Oh thank you for your post, it really gladdened my heart! I’ve been married for thirty one years this year, and like you, my dear husband is twenty years older than me. He has been in residential care with vascular dementia for four years, and doesn’t always recognise me, but I treasure our years together, and the joy that we’ve shared. He too is my soul mate, and I love him dearly. We are both so very blessed to have been allowed the times that we have had. Sending you my love.
@@chrisberry9017 Yes, truly a blessing. I'm sorry that you no longer get the response and recognition that brought you so much joy when you greet each other.... but, at some point, after the passing, you must make new memories to replace the old memories...... it HELPS.
I began with our routine things that we did every day.
I had 2 children, ages 7 and 9 from my previous marriage.
I began getting them up 30 minutes earlier and changed our breakfast food and they helped make waffles and pancakes and fried eggs that they could do to change their thoughts about breakfast so we wouldn't miss Dad and his jokes.
I took them to school a little earlier and because Dad always picked them up, I arranged for them to go home with a classmate's mother so they had fun and a different routine.
He worked nights and took a nap after dinner.
We started eating dinner earlier so we had more daylight.
Then I took the kids and whatever friends wanted to go along to the park or we rode our bikes there.
I changed all of the curtains and bedspread and sheets... whatever the kids wanted in their rooms.
We did little things like that and rescheduled our day.
It didn't make it really easy but, it made it easier that the house looked different and we weren't reminded of seeing Dad sitting on his favorite chair...I changed the furniture covers so everything looks new.
We were able to overcome our grief and yet, my 56 year old son just mentioned Dad yesterday. (His bio dad is 87 and lives 5 miles away. )
I hope my suggestion of making inexpensive changes helps you.
Just do it little by little..... you will be OK.
Do not discard anything.
Get a decorative trunk and place those special items in it.
Don't let anyone pressure you into getting rid of anything YOU want to keep. THESE are YOUR MEMORIES, NOT THEIRS!
I receive your love and send my love to you!💝
@@contactjoy4140 Bless you, and thank you so much for your kindness! I remember doing something similar after my dear Dad died. Christmas traditions were very established, so we changed them all. It was either the ‘empty chair’, or a new experience. I know that it helped me greatly, and despite her deep grief, my Mum admitted that she’d enjoyed her Christmas. My memories of the times that my husband and I have spent are very precious, and I am daily thankful for the many opportunities that we have had to travel, and to meet such incredible people. They have become a wonderful sustaining circle. I thank Hod for my life and it’s richness daily. I send my love to you.
Awh, bless you!
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Yes, you will make it!
❤
Arne and Carlos, thank you 🙏 ❤so much for sharing that story about Helmer.❤❤
It makes me so happy to hear his story, a wonderful life for him and not just passing him along to another home without a care.
🐩
Huge congratulations on your drivers license Carlos. Courage and fortitude. And happy birthday. Thrilled to have you two back. We are so lucky.
Great to see you both back. Congratulations on passing your driving test Carlos - it is a brilliant achievement. Thank you for your words of encouragement for those of us that hold back from doing something.
Happy birthday and congratulations on you driver's license! My husband just graduated nursing school at 48 years old and I am thinking of doing the same at 56! Thank you for the inspiration ♥️
Congratulations on your drivers license and your upcoming birthday! You CAN do whatever you set your mind to! I am an example of that also! I went back to university and graduated at 53, I taught myself to knit 12 years ago and at 60 years old I am taking private lessons to relearn playing the flute! Never say never is my motto. Bravo!
That’s the best motto in the world!
Congratulations! I will be 50 years next year and I am currently studying for my Bachelors degree. You are never too old to go after your dreams.
Thank you for the history lesson on why UK drives on the left side and other countries the right. Fascinating. You saved me a Google check. Also thanks for continuing to encouraging me to upgrade me knitting and life skills.
👍
Yes, please to the coasters! And many thanks for these Sit and Knit for a Bit podcasts!
🚙🚗 Our 91 year old neighbor is going today to get her driver’s license renewed! She drives STILL. Tomorrow we are taking her to SF Bay Area USA and that’s when we will find out if she passed. She’s pretty amazing. She’s our old sweet Mexican lady that climbs over our fence if we forget to open it for her. 😃🚙 Congrats on getting passed the phobia of driving. Keep it going in other things. 👍🏼 More info on your driving adventures with the electric car and almost running out of power!
Wonderful to see you both on Sit and Knit for a Bit again ❤ Knitting while watching you both makes my heart so happy
Congratulations on your Driver’s License Carlos 👏🏻 I dropped my knitting when you said you love Thrift Shopping now!!!!
Yes please, for all coasters. Hello from Canada 🇨🇦
I like the knit coaster idea for a knit along, in 2022. I really enjoy your company please keep doing the podcasts!
I'm so glad to see you two again! And, yes, I am definitely interested in coasters!
Don’t forget folks. To give it a thumbs up. They appreciate it. It helps them
Thanks for that, we totally forgot to mention that we really need the thumbs up - it helps us a lot!!
I love love love your idea of mending the beautiful floral fabric.
We were told the Maltese drive on the shady side of the road! Congrats Carlos, and happy birthday.
Thank you!
I am watching from Byers Colorado USA. I love watching your UA-cam Sit & Knit a Bit. Thank you 😊
Hi Iris!
Congratulations Carlos on your drivers license and a Happy Belated Birthday wish. Great episode. 🥰. Love Arne’s “arneisims”. Its what makes him so endearing.
The felted version of the floral coaster is beautiful. The way the petals fade into the background!
Thank you so much Jacqueline!
I'm so happy you are back. I am looking forward to the Autumn and Christmas season of knitting watching the podcast.
I am so glad to see you back again! You were dearly missed. Congratulations on you 150K milestone.
So happy to see the Princes of Norway again. Take good care.
You as well!
Cant wait for the release of new colors in your yarn! Congrats to Carlos for your driver's license and Happy BIrthday! Double the thrifting fun for you! Looking forward to new patterns! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Birthday Carlos! I loved the new Sit and Knit live. I think the way you handled Helmer was beautiful. Well done! My Norwegian great uncle's name was Helmer, so I always loved him. He is a great dog! So is Freya!
Thank you so much!
This was a lot of fun! The new format is great, and it was so good to catch up with what you’ve been doing. Looking forward to seeing you every week. (Twice!)
All your Helmer talk made me shed a few tears. He was / is adorable!
You two go above and beyond for your fans. Good for you Carlos for facing your fears and getting your driver's license. You did the right thing for Helmut and yourselves. I totally get what you are going through with your Mom Carlos. My Mom has early onset dementia and mobility issues and lives with me, my husband and 5 dogs. Your podcasts give me something to look forward to every week. THANK YOU BOTH! 🥰,Sharon.
I am getting caught up on these. So glad you're back. I was touched about Carlos's mother and father. It's not easy as we care for our elderly parents. You are a good son and Arne, Carlos is lucky to have you. Thank you both for sharing your time and your life with us.
Hi Arne and Carlos, Thank you. Thanks to both of you. This is just what I needed. Love everything about Sit and Knit for a bit. Good to have you back. See you next Wednesday.
YES Coasters.....Love them...will purchase the patterns when they are ready
Oh Carlos I hear you about that car fear. I developed severe panic in cars after a major accident. It took a few years but eventually I set a date to drive and keep going to either get rid of the fear or give up my licence. I fully understand how debilitating that car fear can be. SUPER CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your driver's licence AND so much love for challenging your fears and muddled covid brain! You are soooooo gooooood
Thank you for the pep talk, Carlos! I needed that. Post Covid I started a new job at 62. I have to try harder to do things but nice to know perseverance pays off! 💕 Happy Birthday too!
Carlos, Happy Birthday!!!
Anne of Green Gables isy favorite book.
I love you two and appreciate that you share your life with us. Many blessings to your family and congratulations and happy birthday, Carlos! And, Arne, so glad that your arm is healing. It is wonderful to have a partner who cares enough to make sure you take care of yourself! ❤❤❤
❤️❤️
Congrats Carlos on getting your license- & Arne on great teaching & support! It’s really nice to be able to switch drivers while on a trip.
Thanks!
Happy birthday and Congratulations on your license! That’s a lovely achievement.
Yes! To coasters! My daughter just broke 2 of our ceramic ones so that would be "right up my alley"!
Well done Carlos 🚗. Love your t-shirt Arne. Many years ago my little brother fell over and grazed his head on a cow pat. I still laugh when I think back and hear my dad say ‘thank goodness it wasn’t a fresh one’. Your plants will be wonderful with the compost.
😂
I'm so glad you're back! And I love the coasters! And the new format! Looking forward to your new designs.
Thank you!
Carlos doing the theme music: hysterical!
congrats on your driver's license! many adults just give up and never learn to drive. it can be very anxiety producing.
You guys are just great. I like Arne"s shirt by the way....
Yay - you're back!! Thank you, thank you!
Amazing accomplishment Carlos! You should feel very proud.
Thank you!
Love, love, love the idea of felted Christmas coasters!!
I look forward to knitting coasters. 🧶I enjoyed the new format.
Wonderful time spent as always. So glad you're back. Love the coasters. You are such a positive influence
Congrratulations Carlos for the over-coming this anxiety! Now Arne can do some knitting while you drive....something I always liked when we go on long drives.
👍🏻
So glad to be back with you both again, I am now in my new vacation home in Florida.
"...they can take the book with them..."
"NO!"
🤣
Congratulations Carlos- my son just received his DL @ 22 and so I know Arne's side well. I too set my mind to learn crochet at 50 years right handed (I'm a left hander) so I know we can do anything we set our mind to! Yay!
🤗
Hi .. first comment for me ..
Just wanted to say thank you.. it’s a pleasure to sit n knit with you and listen to your stories. You will never know how much your company was appreciated (and still is) during the
Covid nightmare.. SO good to see you both so happy and well .. as Carlos say’s..on to the future for us all .. good luck with all your plans.
I actually found you when I had a sore shoulder from knitting. I learnt to knit Norwegian style from your You Tube videos to save my sore arm. So I thank my sore arm/shoulder for getting to know you 😊🙏🏻💛
That is great to hear about your sore arm/shoulder!
Congratulations on passing your test. I can still remember passing mine and I was over 30. Great feeling of freedom. Listening to your talk about being able to do things, no matter your age, was really brilliant. I had just ordered a spinning wheel before watching this video after many months of dithering about buying one. I have never done any spinning before but after listening to you I feel that I can certainly learn this new skill. Great to see you both back.
You were definitely missed! It’s good to see you again!
It was good to hear that Helmer has new owners that don’t travel. Congratulations on getting your driver’s license Carlos. It was interesting that you will be 52 this coming Friday because my son will be 52 on this coming Saturday. Sorry about your mom.
I have several skirts from a company called Darn Good Yarn - they make the skirts (and yarn and other clothing) from recycled sari material. I have found many spots on my skirts that have embroidery over thin spots or holes in the fabric. It's always so fun to find those little hand-sewn details and to think about the people who loved this fabric before me. I think your darned and embroidered fabric will be lovely and so much more special for having your hand-sewn decorations added to it!
Happy belated Birthday, Carlos!!!
Lovely chat boys, I got loads of crochet done while watching
Fantastic, I loved you being back. Sadly last wednesday I couldn’t join, but there are so many interesting subjects you talked about that moved me. On a technical standpoint Optic white always contains Blue in small quantities and that makes it a cold colour. I have learned that almost 50 years ago at my commercial college about technology of fabrication of things. Do not know the english term of the subject. But basically you learn how everything in shops are made, from wood, plastics, fabrics etc etc. Helmer is happy now and a dog and they adapt easily if they have a loving environment with people that care and have the time. You both had the welfare of Helmer in mind and I thank you for that. Carlos, I feel you accepted how to deal with your mother her illness. And Arne you had to adapt to the situation where you are limited by a health problem and use your creativity differently for a while. You are both so inspirational I really love it. Thank you so much for brightening up the start of my day.
Thank you for sharing and all your kind thoughts.
You are never to old to learn new tricks.
Happy Birthday young man! Oh & thank you for the Helmer update. You had to make a difficult decision and it turned out well. Congratulations on your driving license Carlos & on your hands healing Arne.
Carlos is an inspiration I have anxiety driving too so I haven’t gotten my license. Ill do my best to do it now. Also happy birthday! I hope you have a lovely day.
Glad we can inspire you!
Great episode! Love the format, been missing our weekly “talks” so nice to catch up! I’ve been harvesting tomatoes here in New Hampshire, making sauce and cucumbers making pickles. Hope your kitchen garden has been plentiful! Congratulations and happy birthday Carlos 💕. Very interested in the coasters, looking forward to the patterns. ❤️
Well done with the pickling!
Hurraaa! I er tilbage. Rigtigt dejligt at i er live. Altid en fornøjelse at se jer
It was the best for Helmer, since your upcoming lifestyle is changing with world travel opening up. So great that he has found the right home. You made the right decision.
Thank you!
What a joy to see you both! Congratulations on your license Carlos, that’s a real achievement! I was so sorry to hear about you Mum & Dad’s situation, it’s a tough call. My deal husband has dementia, and has been in care for four years. It’s hard, but thankfully I have good friends. Thank you again for being the super folks that you are. X
Thank you for your support Chris
So delighted that you are back with a format that works for you. Congratulations on getting your driver’s license Carlos! I loved the reframe of Helmer going off to College; my heart goes out to you both on that painful but necessary decision. Also, that treadmill got you back to a point where you can go trail running - and now it can help someone else reach their fitness goals. What comes after Thrift Shopgate? 😁
The coaster is a great idea! I'm looking forward to the Christmas ornament class with Fleece and Harmony!
thank you so much you two I really enjoy your live time and all the online sessions you share with us, I have recently moved from the USA to Australia and couldn't bring my darling dog with me so your conversation really resonated with me and helped. Safe travels on your upcoming tours.
Thank you!
So glad to see you gentlemen again!
Good to be back!
So, so happy you both are back! Congratulations Carlos! And Congratulations to Arne too, he gets to knit and crochet while you drive. 😄I have been scared of doing color work so your words Carlos are inspiring!
I get your car anxiety, kudos to you for persevering and getting your license. I taught both my daughters and my grandson to drive. What an accomplishment for you!
So so glad you are back! I love the coasters! Can't wait for the series of them! Hope Arne heals quickly. All the best
I’m so glad that you’re doing Sit & Knit again! And imho the iPhone video quality is great, so don’t worry about it.
Congratulations Carlos Ian so glad for you can do anything you set your mind to driving is such a freedom enjoy it love from Gerri in Tennessee
Love the coasters! Such a great project ❤️
Happy Birthday Carlos 🌻Glad your Mom and Dad is doing well.
Happy Happy Birthday! Carlos! and Congrats on getting your driver's license...you're truly mobile now...but life is tempered with some sadness, isn't it!? Aging parents and beloved pets somehow bring us the most joy and profound realizations about what is really important in our daily lives...and I truly appreciate how open you and Arne are with sharing personal aspects of your life together...I'm so glad for this space and I'm so happy you have each other! Thank You both :)
Yes! Christmas coasters. Glad to have you back.
Well done for passing your driving test! I used to drive a lot but I lost confidence and I didn't drive for 10 years. I started again in 2020!
I would love coasters! Glad Sit and Knit is back
Welcome back. Loving the live format! Congratulations on your driver’s license Carlos! Can’t wait to see the additional new coasters. Can’t wait for the next episode! Arne glad you are able to get back to the work you enjoy doing.
I love the coasters! I will knit them two at a time so that I can knit them in the round!
Clever
Love the dynamic interaction in your Live Sit & Knit for a Bit!
Absolutely enjoyed sit and knit for a bit back. You lift my spirits, thank you. 😘🏴🇳🇴
Love the coasters idea!! Yes, please. Christmas presents for all!
Congrats Carlos, glad you’re enjoying driving and are rid of the anxiety! Great shows and I love the shows you have planned for the future. I love that 1920s fabric, gorgeous!
I am sorry about your Mama Carlos, I lost both of my parents back in the 90's and I miss them. Cherish the time you have with them, people say children grow too fast...I say parents age too fast. Loving the new format you two have chosen for Sit and Knit for a Bit, hope to actually catch you live someday!!
Thank you both - the coasters look like a lot of fun!!
❤
Lads, a fun hint when you go to NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana). Down there locals pronounce it "New-aw-lins."
I can’t wait to buy some new yarn in the new colors. Love the coasters
So pleased you are back boys. Loving sit and knit and looking 4wd to your road trips. 👍
I missed some of the live, so I'm watching again.
Congratulations on getting your driver's license Carlos! Wishing you all the best for a very happy birthday Friday.
Love seeing you both again and looking forward to your podcasts again. ❤️😘
Thank you both for a great 15minutes . Love the new format feels so much more inclusive. Looking forward to all the Christmas ideas.
That was ultra fabulous guys. Came in late but watched it all now. Just perfecto. Happy Birthday for Friday Carlos. 🎂 Sure you are going to have a super weekend and jolly. It all sounds very exciting, especially if we get to go touring around with you both. Love the new colours for your wool. Good to hear both parents are now doing a lot better. Looking forward to the next Sit and Knit. ⭐️
Happy celebration weekend...and you are so encouraging!!!!!
Great idea, the coasters! Have a great birthday, Carlos!
I would enjoy practicing the double knit and felting with coasters. Even better with a botanical flowers or herbs! Yes, herbs would be refreshing too. Thank you
I love the coasters!! Looking forward to the pattern
Lovely to see you back. I think your doing a great job the two of you. Made my day watching the sit and knit returned. 👍
