  • Today I break down how much freshwater fishing guides can actually make if they are busting their butts like crazy and don't plan on having much of a family life! I also talk about a great way for guides to make secondary, passive income using the platform FishTips.com! FishTips is marketplace platform where guides can sell Digital Guide trips, exactly how and where they would guide you for a fraction of the cost because they don't have personal expenses tied to the trip! It's a great way for guides to make extra money and recreational anglers to maximize their time on the water! Guiding is a fun but hard lifestyle! I hope you enjoy this video!

The cost vs profit is why I quit guiding on lake X. Lake X only has access 6 months out of the year. So 50% opportunity to guide was cut because of the town. Then they require a guide permit on top. I quit 20 years ago. Lake X has the best fishing opportunity for a true double digit bass. But the town drops the water during the best time to catch the double digit bass. I do miss meeting new people. I enjoy the look on the clients face when they catch their personal best or first bass. Thanks for sharing your experience. My experience is different because I fish only lake X.

I have all ways wanted to be a camping and fishing guide just never took that step forward. In doing it I love going camping way back in the park.

Thank you for the work you put into your content.
I live in south Florida and want to transition to a bass guide. Mainly on my local lakes. Do you employ this far south? Shot in the dark but I thought I’d ask. Thanks again for your time!! Cheers

Austin, how do you handle health insurance for you and your family? Guessing that is also not cheap. It was not cheap even working for a corporation for 30 years. I really enjoy your fishing videos catching big bass

Bro, I totally forgot to add a truck and boat payment! I own my trucks and boats in cash which is probably why it didn’t cross my mind. But yeah man. It’s a tough little business which is why I think FishTips is a great option to make supplemental income, you HAVE to have multiple sources of revenue in this industry! I have another video coming out in a couple weeks on my business as a whole specifically. And yeah a ton of people tip me really well, but I also guide tourists and I don’t think some of them know to tip lol but thanks for sharing! 👊🏽

The average American makes 40k a year. If you live near the lake you guide on your fuel expense is much less. The potential to make a good living is there IMO. But you’re not getting rich. Plus everyone has expenses even if they work for someone else.

Our roads have extreme elevation and are serpentine. I’d say on every drive (300 days a year towing a boat) we have 3000 to 5000 foot of elevation gain and then decent with 20-30 switch backs both to the lake and come back. Our drives are BRUTAL on tires and transmissions. I’m sure somebody else in my region can confirm that I’m not lying.
