One reason is that he became a guitar hero when grunge made rock instrumentalists uncool in popular eye.

This is the difference to me between a lot of modern guitarists and the old school. Smashes this stuff out live, with energy, jumping around and still does it near perfect. One of the all time greats for sure
Saw XTREME in the ‘90s. Right at the front of the stage, Mesa Amphitheater AZ. He was playing like this too. It’s nice he’s getting some recognition these days.

That part of the solo was featured on a"sound page"from a guitar mag back in the day.Nuno is my favorite Electric AND Acoustic player.No other player can play both at HIS level.

Fooking amazing as always Nuno is outstanding!
He’s a great guitarist with lots and lots of technical abilities. What he doesn’t have are tons of great songs. He’s got a few but even a basic hair metal band like Poison has a much deeper catalog of hits than Nuno and Extreme does and that’s simply why he’s never had the recognition that he’d have hoped for. It’s all about the songs, without those he’s just like all the other great players in all the other bands.
I agree. I’ve checked out every project he’s worked on, since the first Extreme album, and hearing his licks on Play With Me, in the Bill and Ted movie/soundtrack.
Yet, I was always finding myself suffering through mediocre or bad songs, just for his solos.
I’m happy they’re getting some attention with the new songs, but the way some of the fans are talking about it, you’d think it was groundbreaking, and all time great.
The songs aren’t great. It’s just two more cool solos he did on very mediocre songs. The lyrics in the Rainbow song, are about as generic as it gets, and the sound is too.
I really don’t know why people are freaking out over them.

I respectfully disagree. Poison has more "hits", but I would argue Extreme's catalog is better, Extreme II and III particularly.

Not about hits, but some things in music are objectively true. Poison being a far more well known band, that had bigger hits and sold more albums.
Yet, no one is debating whether CC Deville, is one of the greatest guitarists in rock history. Nuno is in that debate. It’s a bit like knowing one loves a band, and the guitarist is their favorite too, but then the band releases an album that just doesn’t immediately grab the person. When a band I love, would release an album, that had more songs I didn’t like, than ones I did, it was difficult hearing it. There are many ways to appreciate music.
That’s the point I was making.
His guitar parts, along with that Play With Me jam, are some of the music that inspired me to play guitar.
Yet, I can tell you a similar tale, about hundreds of guitarists, bands and songs. Or just the guitar parts, to songs I don’t actually like as a whole.
Nuno isn’t even one of my top ten favorite players, yet I still always checkout what he’s doing, because I want to hear what he does.
Hendrix wasn’t the best selling artist in the late 60’s. Not even close. He didn’t have a lot of hits, or at least chart toppers.
Yet, he was still the highest paid live act in the world by 1969, through until he died.

Some serious Paul Gilbert-like runs at the end there.. Reminds of some bits from the Intense Rock intro solo. String-skipping, using a combination of alternate picking and hammer-ons and pull-offs!
Give some love to the bass player too! He’s note for note with Nuno. Just an awesome band.

lol bro been a monster since late 80's easy haha It is freekin awesome to see Nuno getting ALL the love today ..it's like it took a cpl years for guitar lovers to get over the loss of EVH and feel ok again to show THAT kinda love for anyone and ya gotta say Extreme 6's timing is fucking perfect. Nuno now gets all that pent up guitar love we've all been holding on to in our grief.... I'm here for it.

Some of you guys are just discovering him...he is the most underated guitarist. Been listening him since the 90's. He had been a shredder ever since. Stupid Rolling Stones Magazine didn't put him in top100 guitarists.

Definitely one of rocks greatest guitar players ever. Popularity and fame are totally different issues.
What can you say, while even Nuno will say he hasn't taken the crown from Eddie the king, he's right up there.
That's just humility. Edward was a great player, but Nuno is a transcendent player, and a better songwriter and vocalist.
To be totally clear I'm not really a fan of either band. I'm just giving my impressions.
Too much technique excercises, so boring, at least he enjoys himself.
I love his muted fast alternate picking, sounds so tight and perfect. Man has definitely put in some serious time to perfecting his technique.
