    My old man was what you call, an acquired taste, he called a spade a spade, he was what al ot of people would call abrupt, yet he loved teaching what he knew, he loved golf, was quite good at it, he shot his age till he was 82.
    Golf, unfortunately got a bit much for him after that, walking those 18 holes became a struggle for the old bastard 😁
    The young kids/adults loved learning off him, he had a unique slant on his ways which was almost foreign to younger generations.
    They even attended his funeral a few years back, passed at 88, never saw inside a hospital till he was 86.
    Never change the way you are Dr O'Mara, you are a breath of fresh air to people who are too used to the PC way of talking.

    I came across Dr. Sean O'mara after listening to him on Dr. Shawn Baker's and Zach Bitter's podcast, the Human Performance Outliers (HPO) podcast. His views on the level of visceral fat being the most important marker for good health, and that a MRI measuring visceral fat should be part of a regular medical exam for everyone is something that I found eye opening. For those of you who haven't, I highly recommend listening to Dr. Omara on that podcast.

      Thank you. Nurses are the first line of patient advocacy. I am trying to reach as many nurses as possible. They appear more open to real health optimization than physicians. Glad to have your encouragement.

    I loved this! What are your thoughts on the carnivore diet?

    • @seanomaramdjd4241
      @seanomaramdjd4241 5 років тому +9

      I think it has beenefita but like many things emerging it needs to be studied for long term effect. Still why wait two decades. Give it a try especially seasonally. I am exclusively carnivore in late fall tlthru winter into early spring when I think many of our ancestors were. I tried this past year with good results. Not ready to go carnivore only all year however without following impact on microbiome and other biomarkers over time. Great question!

    • @seanomaramdjd4241
      @seanomaramdjd4241 5 років тому +6

      I am at least a "partial" admirer of the Carnivore diet and intuit it has potential advantages and possibly disadvantages. Like many I think we need to study it yet different than others I am vocal about the lost opportunity to improve our health waiting for science to prove something over a long period of time. What I do and would recommend to my clients regarding the Carnivore Diet is eating only carnivorously at least seasonally where I think so many of our ancestors would have by necessity done so. I only eat meat late fall to early spring where I believe our access to vegetation would have been limited and out of necessity meat and animal products would have been our predominate our only source of nutrition. It is amazing to me how little we grasp vegetative matter and their positive and negative contributions they have for human nutrition. Human tradition for countless generations would have provided us invaluable guidance on not only what to eat but when. The loss of this critical acquired body of knowledge known as tradition is almost like we have forgotten how to walk.

      Sean OMara, MD, JD that sounds really good to me, since I have been growing a food forest in my backyard for a few years. I have been looking longingly at all my fruit, but this sounds highly reasonable! I have been trying Carnivore for the past two months, but I love kimchi and other veggies! I am slowly moving away from them, but it is hard.

    Do you take Bluecross? I just turned 52. In the last few months I was told I had symptoms of type 2 diabetes, I have the symptoms of high blood pressure. I hadn't been to a doc since I was 16. I never had insurance. The doc I saw said type 2 would ONLY get worse. I don't choose to believe that. I HAVE been exercising, eating small meals and intermittent fasting.

    • @AdaptYourLife

      wetlazer a test to see if you are in fact Pre Diabetic one should test their HbA1c or Hemoglobin A1c
      An A1c of under 5.7 is considered “Normal”
      An A1c of between 5.7 and 6.4 is considered “pre diabetic”
      And over 6.4 is then “Diabetic”
      There are other ways to test but this is a reliable way to test.

      @@AdaptYourLife He gave me metformin and lisinopril, so he did find that I have type 2 diabetes. The issue was that he said you can't ever NOT be diabetic. I live in Eagan MN and I want to work with a doc who doesn't hold the view that you can't heal from high bp and diabetes.

    How do we know visceral fat is the cause of disease and not the result of disease?

    • @seanomaramdjd4241
      @seanomaramdjd4241 5 років тому +11

      We probably will never really know with confidence all the associations versus causes of disease. What is observed though is rid the body of visceral fat, by healthier living, and the manifestation of disease is reduced or eliminated. This happens far more with visceral fat elimination than cholesterol. Cholesterol is needed for healthy cell membranes, critical hormones, and optimized nutritional absorption. It is mind boggling that physicians pursue cholesterol reduction and are silent on visceral fat. I suspect it is because Big Pharma has yet to produce a “pill” to do that. I recommend to people to not wait for Big Pharma’s profit driven goal which will be sure to be fraught with side effects when simply eliminating processed foods reduces visceral fat and other healthier lifestyle choices help more.

      Which country? Who is it?
      When a Fruitarian get Pancreatic cancer, does that mean the diet is bad?
      When a vegan gets heart disease, is the diet to blame? I'm sure CVD and cancer are the two leading causes of death for vegans.

      While, I don't know. My guess would be they heavily used a plant-based Ketogenic Diet, like filled with plant oils and green veggies with limited Animal protein, using more plant proteins, like nuts & seeds, rather than eating Ketogenic Diet based Exclusively on eating Animals & Animal Fats: like nutrient-dense Beef, Salmon, Lamb, Butter. All Plants are toxin to varying degrees and can damage our bodies both with their toxins like oxalates for just one example and with their antinutrients which bind to the nutrients we need and prevent the human body from absorbing them.
