  • When Anti-Mage plays mid and buys Ethereal Blade and Dagon, it's a highly unconventional but interesting build that focuses on burst magic damage rather than his traditional physical attack and mobility playstyle. This build leverages Anti-Mage's high agility, fast attack speed, and mana-burning abilities, combined with the magic damage output from these items to quickly delete squishy heroes.
    How the Build Works:
    Ethereal Blade:
Effect: Ethereal Blade allows you to "etherealize" a target, making them take amplified magic damage and unable to attack or be attacked with physical damage. When used on an enemy, it deals a burst of magical damage based on your agility and makes them vulnerable to more magic damage.
Synergy with Anti-Mage: Anti-Mage naturally builds a lot of agility, which increases the Ethereal Blade’s damage output. The item can be used as a high-damage nuke and also as a tool to protect yourself from physical attackers or prevent enemies from escaping.
Mana Void Follow-up: After etherealizing an enemy and dealing magic damage with Ethereal Blade, you can cast Mana Void for even more burst damage, especially if the target has low mana. Since Ethereal Blade amplifies magic damage, the resulting Mana Void will hit even harder.
    Dagon:
Effect: Dagon is a simple yet effective burst-damage tool that deals a high amount of magical damage to a single target. Dagon can be upgraded to increase its burst potential as the game progresses.
Synergy with Ethereal Blade: After using Ethereal Blade, you can follow up with Dagon to deal amplified magic damage. The ethereal effect makes the target take 40% more magic damage, turning Dagon into an even more powerful burst tool.
    Playstyle with this Build:
Early Game: As Anti-Mage mid, you’re aiming to farm quickly while harassing your opponent with your Mana Break passive to deplete their mana and limit their ability to fight back. The focus is still on getting Ethereal Blade and Dagon as soon as possible to transition into your burst damage build.
Mid Game: Once you have Ethereal Blade and Dagon, you become a pseudo-nuker. You engage by blink-initiating onto a vulnerable target (typically squishy heroes), then immediately cast Ethereal Blade followed by Dagon and Mana Void for a devastating burst combo. This combo can instantly eliminate many heroes, especially those with low HP and mana pools.
Late Game: In the late game, you'll continue picking off supports and squishy cores. However, be mindful of the fact that your traditional physical DPS isn’t as strong without typical Anti-Mage items (like Manta, Butterfly, etc.). Your strength lies in bursting down enemies before they can react. Upgrading Dagon to max level ensures your combo remains lethal.
    Key Pros:
High Burst Damage: This build turns Anti-Mage into a magic burst assassin. He can delete heroes quickly with the Ethereal Blade + Dagon combo, especially when paired with Mana Void.
Unpredictability: Most opponents won’t expect this build on Anti-Mage, making it harder to counter at first.
Mana Void Finisher: Ethereal Blade and Dagon leave enemies vulnerable to a Mana Void finisher, which is devastating against mana-dependent heroes.
    Key Cons:
Less Physical DPS: This build sacrifices Anti-Mage’s traditional role as a late-game physical carry. Without items like Battle Fury or Manta Style, his right-click potential is much lower.
Ethereal Form Vulnerability: You need to be careful when using Ethereal Blade because if you etherealize yourself, you can become vulnerable to enemy magic damage and spells.
Less Tanky: Anti-Mage with this build can be squishier and more vulnerable to magic burst without the typical tanky or mobility items like Manta and Abyssal Blade.
    In Summary:
Anti-Mage mid with Ethereal Blade and Dagon transforms him into a burst-damage hero that can take out squishy targets with magical damage rather than relying on his usual physical damage output. The Ethereal Blade + Dagon + Mana Void combo allows you to nuke down heroes quickly, making this a fun and unexpected way to play the hero. However, it requires precise timing and positioning to avoid being too fragile or out-scaled by traditional physical damage dealers later in the game.
