    having personally hit about 50-55 mph on a longboard i can say i would never want to try for speeds this fast. at those speeds the smallest muscle flinch can literally send the bard out from under you in a heartbeat and cause some extremely dangerous situations. Props on the record though!!! takes balls to do something that insane.

    • @johnbender49
      @johnbender49 2 роки тому +16

      A few years ago when I longboarded alot more, and more seriously, I ate shit going over 55 mph. I live in rural Pennsylvania and my buddy was following me in his car (at a safe distance, but that judged my speed). At the bottom of this hill, I hit a patch of gravel and my board turned sideways and threw me.. I dont know how far exactly, I'm sure it was more than 20 feet. I shattered my wrist, and both of my knees and elbows are scarred from it. If I wasn't wearing a helmet, it would have been worse. I kept skating after that. But as I get older, the appeal to push speed like that fades a little more. Those were fun times and I could get away with it when I was 19. But I guess I'm turning into an old man now. Those memories and moments of speed wobbles and wipeouts have made me a better person though.

Yes, I was on rollerskates not rollerblading when I went downhill so fast (coffin-style leg between my leg on one foot) on a long super steep hill in Valencia, California Just off the freeway before Magic Mountain. After 95+ mph (with my older brother chasing behind in a car) my bearings blew out from overheating. Luckily I was only about two inches off the ground because I slid for a long time with my wallet going up in a rooster tail of confetti.* *My wallet save my ass that time but I do have pictures of my ass being scraped away from road rash in other downhill incidents(again bearings blowing out).* *At those speeds, trust me leather outfits are not going to do you any good.* *There're other people who have probably gone faster but just without all these official people to document it.* *Me jumping over 12 swing cruisers over 20 years ago with no ramp in Venice Beach, California was documented by Channel 7 Eyewitness News and posted every day on their opening of Wild World of Sports for 1 year. Yes, that was over 26 feet, (6 feet over the world record of some skater jumping with nothing in between) at that time. But we weren't there for any world record attempt, they were just filming me jumping a lot of bicycles. That was me.*

      Gopro helmet cams for downhill skateboarding make it seem a lot slower than it is and aren't that fun to watch because you can't see the rider slide the board, which is where a lot of the finesse lies.

    To anyone asking: "How did he stop?"
    Your tuck is a stance where you try to be as aerodynamic as possible. the tighter it is the faster you get. If your body is carrying you to that speed, it's also what will slow you down. Slowly getting out of this aerodynamic stance allows you to gradually get to a more manageable speed. Then you can start carving to brush off some more speed and consider if you want to footbrake or power slide (hands down or stand up). Downhill skateboarding it's just a bunch of mall grabbers and mongo pushers. Its been evolving for years like street skating.

      more arrow dynamic

    • @danielmata104
      @danielmata104 7 років тому +5

      Aerodynamic. If there’s a gap between the legs, the wind will cut through there and will make like an air cushion reducing his speed and losing control.

    • @dkandreasprip
      @dkandreasprip 6 років тому +2

      I imagine it's for aerodynamics. At those kinds of speeds, his leg cutting through the air would likely produce a vacuum behind his legs, which would pull back on that leg and reduce the speed. The fin takes up the place the vacuum would, and allows the wind to merge behind his leg, reducing air drag.

    • @paulbrand9587

      Disclaimer, I'm not an engineer or anything. But I think you're right, vacuum is not the technically accurate term for that. Calling it an area with low pressure causing drag force would probably be more accurate.

    • @spade4acer
      @spade4acer 6 років тому

      They're actually probably precision CNC milled. Trucks that are precision milled can cost upwards of 400 dollars for a set and are generally made for intense downhill applications like this, although you *can* go at very high speeds on standard cast trucks if you're experienced enough. Trucks can also be forged but those are cheaper than precision, generally about 150 dollars a set.
      Btw tightness is not the right way to avoid speed wobbles, either you get harder bushings or improve your form (keep your weight on your downhill leg)

    This video inspired me so much the need for speed but on a skateboard when i had abit of a small skateboard what u could say i didn’t know how to ride, i kept falling but then i kept going and going till one day i made it to a speed that is fast for small skateboard it was a average speed for a skateboard on a non hill but then i kept getting faster bc i wanted to push to my limit and i was fast as a bike when it is being peddled really hard and i was amazed then my feet kept getting bigger and I couldn’t ride that small skateboard anymore when my uncle first saw flying down the street with the skateboard he was amazed he said let me see ur skateboard and it was a pretty good made skateboard with good wheels.That was the start of him thinking he should give something to me bc he knew for my size and that skateboard is impossible to think for him but now, now he gave me a long board made of the best wood and i was happy i could still live up to my dream of being the fastest on a longboard just like this man now. Thank u for inspiring me 🛹+❤️= Me now
