I just got my 8840u WIN 4 yesterday in the mail and I have not been off of it since! Man this thing is absolutely perfect! Nice video love the accent 😂
Ordered my gpd win 4 (8840u) on Amazon and got it the next day. I also have a steam decks. Love the steam decks and its screen size. Loving the gpd win 4 more though. Great size and performance
I've had mine for a month or two now and love it, only downside is the heat. I opened it up and put a few 1mm thermal pads on the chips next to the CPU and reapplied the thermal paste to the CPU as it ended up overheat throttling to auto safety shutdown with playing on 30w 1080p newish game. Afterwords still warm to the touch 70c max usually, before was hitting 90+ till shutdown.
The sticks have very small dead zones. Must be pretty decent sticks even though not hall ones. Next gen on processors will raise the game a lot, but I've a suspicion they'll also crank prices up a lot.
Great vids mate. Recently purchased the 7840U 32GB for £380 by eBay auction, perfect nick but the LCD's black levels are off hence the lower price, but GPD are sending me a replacement LCD free of charge from HK, despite me not being the original owner. Amazing little company! Waiting on the LCD to arrive before upgrading storage, but some great info on your channel.
Changing that display might be quite challenging. But I'm sure it'll be worth it. Love my Win4. So much so on a recent trip to London it was the only device (aside from my Miyoo Mini) that I took with me. And it was the only device I actually played on in spare time. You got an amazing deal there. I feel I always miss out on the best deals. 🤔 Anyway, you've made me want to play on my Win4 and I was just updated the AMD Adrenaline software this morning. 🏆
@handheldgaming4life GPD even linked a LCD swapout tutorial on their channel, surprisingly easy, one unclip of a cable and reinstall. Layman stuff....hopefully! As a day dot order of SD and an owner of the Ally, the Win 4 always stood out with it's portability (tbh honest anytime I whipped out the Deck and Ally on plane, I feel ridiculous). But the Win feels right in hand. I've ordered a Lapdock - 'Dopesplay' and I'm going to replace my other handhelds and Lenuvo Legion Rtx 2060 with one device and KB mouse display
Great stuff. I've had a lot of fun with it so far but it's not perfect out the box. Needs a bit of tinkering to get the best out of it. I'll drop more videos over the coming weeks.
Baby ROG... I'm fairly sure the ROG will be cooler in use having a lot more space to dissipate the heat. I'm great thanks! Hope your having an excellent weekend too.
How is the Sleep Mode for this Win 4? Say if you're in the middle of gameplay and need to pause and power down the device for a moment, can you resume gameplay later on?
If your using Bazzzite yes you can hit power and it will sleep just like the steam deck. I wouldn't put it in the case though just in case you touch the power button. If your using windows I wouldn't trust sleep/hibernate. But it booted up from cold pretty quickly.
Idk if you’ve already done it but if you can make a tutorial video or if you ever decide to switch to hall sticks please make one I just bought one and I wanna upgrade it but the most I’ve done on electronics is replacing the Sd drive on the steam deck
If I ever suffer from stick drift a replacement video will be the first thing I do... I'm not sure, but when I first picked this up there weren't any compatible Halls sticks for the Win4, but hopefully there will be soon.
From order to delivery was about 17 days. Normally Whatgeek are about 15 days so 2 extra days felt slow but it actually arrived on a Saturday which was a surprise. It seems Whatgeek ship exactly 1 week after you place your order, this has been my pretty consistent experience and then the rest is shipping, which you can track online. Standard Shipping is free to UK and no extra UK taxes either. So what you see is what you pay! You can pay for expedited shipping but i'm not certain it will speed up the process all that much if it takes a week to dispatch.
The problem with these handhelds is battery life! I mean other than the steam deck oled if you can't get at least 4 to 6 hrs battery life then what's the point of it being portable when you will just be tethered to a charger all the damn time!
Can I ask how many 6hour gaming sessions do you have? Most of the folk I speak to who want a handheld say they want maximum battery life but admit they rarely get more than 2hours continuous time to game. I generally give advice on game settings to get a good balance of performance and battery life. It's a bit like the age old argument about EVs. They'll never catch on unless they can do 500miles without charging. And yet the fact is most trips are under 25miles and no one ever drives 500miles without stopping. It's more about breaking down perceived issues with real issues. Battery life under 1hour is an issue. Battery life of 2 or more hours is great. 4-6 is mostly overkill but throwing bigger batteries isn't always the answer. You could have the latest ROG ALLY X with it's 80+Wh battery. So double the life, but what I've seen is owners are now just cranking over 25W all the time with highest settings they can get and reducing the battery life back down to 2-ish hours. Soon enough we'll have solid state batteries that will last longer in gaming sessions and charge much faster. But then handhelds will likely jump up in price I bet.
Missing my point I don't really mean you have to game 4 to 6 hrs at a time but just not having to always charge the damn thing all the time. More battery time less time charging is all I mean! Like not having to charge it more than 3 to 5 times a week!
@@ericochoa4034 Ah, I hadn't realized that was your point. Yeah it would be great to have battery life that meant you didn't have to charge all week. I guess an alternative would be to use a handheld that connects to your main PC and allows you to stream, like the Abxylute One, or you can do this with all windows handhelds too and that will extend battery life too.
I've played 2 four hour sessions on the GPD Win 4 in one day on multiple occasions. I needed footage for my UA-cam videos. I've played with it plugged in before. I've played using it like a game console, too. Laptops have the same kind of battery issues.

I've brought mine on holiday. And while it's not had much use, I've been busy. It's had more use than my RG35XX or Retroid 4Pro. 😁
@@handheldgaming4life i dont use anything but my WIN4 since i got it!! Its honestly the best!! Congrats too btw! Enjoy

Yeah Amazon for next day is best bet but you will often pay a premium. Probably a more robust returns process though than my route. 😁

That's on my to do list. When I open it up to upgrade the NVMe I'll repaste and apply some thermal pads. 👌
Love this form factor with the added slide keyboard. Hope the next version has hall effect joysticks or more upgrades!

What skating game is that at 12:56
It's called Driftwood. I'm rubbish at it but wish I was better. Bought it for my son originally.

Does the internet work on it?
Yeah no problems with WiFi on it. There is a 4g odd on which I don't have as tethering to my 5g phone is much better.
