Idk, after reading Godblight, was expecting Mortarion to be represented as this stoic and menacing monster with an statuesque figure, what made him fearsome in the books is literally how mighty he is and so sure of victory, his presence alone exuded overwhelming power, Guilliman, with the Emperor's sword may I add, was felled by Mortarion in what in all honesty felt like a very one sided fight, when facing Mortarion one should feel the most intense dread as now you stand your ground against decay incarnate... Not a moustache twirling single movie marvel villain.

Honestly, got to his fight earlier than the game expected me to (I know because I got an achievement for finishing the game early) and it was a terrifying fight, I had the feeling that Mortarion himself couldnt be beat, thus why you are meant to focus on getting Draigo to the roots.

And what happens to him? Thrown into the warp in an endless fight that doesn't matter. He can kill a million greater daemons daily if he wants it, but the daemons will reform. He can't return to realspace where fighting actually *matters.* I also think Draigo surviving long enough against Mortarion is kinda silly. But I have no problem with the character overall.

He only gave himself to Nurgle after he had exhausted all possible options, including trying to kill his sons to end their suffering, only for Nurgle to bring them back to life every time. 3. He's been made a slave three times now: first when he landed on Barbarus as a child, second when the Emperor forced him to serve him and now a third to Nurgle. 4. He spends every waking moment plotting to escape Nurgle's grasp (as futile as it is) but until then he has zero choice but to do as he's told. 5. Fuck Erebus.
It's almost as if people can change over time, especially under such unusual circumstances. Also if you were at his place you would also hate psykers etc
