- Jack Kirby appeared at the comic book store Comics & Comix in Palo Alto, California on 14 March 1993 where he met with fans for at least two hours. Offered here is the last half hour on the VHS tape we received thanks to Jerry Boyd and John Morrow.

In 2017 he was honored with a Disney Legend Award.
His son Neal Kirby received the award in behalf the King.

Give the billions made off his creations, agreed. However it's worth noting that Topps Comics and the Image founders treated The King with the respect he is due. His two biggest paydays in comics were the first check for the Topps deal, and the first royalty check for Phantom Force #1.
I don't think he received as many awards as he should have. Sure he got the Shazam, Alley, Inkpot, but not even a Reuben, Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award, National Cartoonists Society Awards, or even the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. :(
I wish the people who weren't Jack Kirby were quieter...
This was one of four stops we made to promote "Art of Jack Kirby." We rented a passenger van and hoofed it around the old fashioned way. The roadtrip crew also included Roz, myself, Catherine Hohlfeld, and Rob Crane. Thanks for the share. Really terrific memories.

Kirby really was ahead of his time, he was on the EXTRA THICK train before it even existed.
I started out with my very first serious comic book at about 9 years old being kamandi #2. it was so popular it took me several weeks to hunt down the first issue as it flew off the newsstands as fast as it was put there but I finally found a copy and I was completely mesmerised and fell under Kirby's trance. The very first story I read was "year of the Rat" (Kamandi #2) and if you can imagine the very impressionable Mind of a 9 dash 10 year old child what an impact that had on me and growing up in a tough environment is a child being able to relate is an outcast to kamandi and then all the supporting characters that followed as the stories progressed this became who I was and I lived, eat slept and breathing kamandi every day of my life and I became very depressed for several months when he left DC and stopped drawing/writing Kamandi as I had followed every issue and can even remember where I was when I purchased about the first 20 issues that's how important kamandi was to me. When Kirby came to the Chicago Comic Con in the early 80s I was going to see him along with my younger brother but I was so sick with the flu I could not get out of bed and didn't want to embarrass myself by dribbling and sneezing in line waiting to meet him so I thought I guess I'll just see him next time but he never came back to Chicago that I knew of and I just got caught up with life like the rest of us and will never forgive myself for not dragging myself to the convention to meet him my childhood Idol. I hope he realized just how much he was loved and admired and his incredibly inspiring characters and stories they inspired me greatly and helped develop the moral fabric that I live by. Seeing now all these interviews and being able to see who he was in person, the kind of man he was so humble and generous in spirit it's truly astounding. That moment where he talks to the young boy with his father and encourages him to draw and elaborates in great detail for this very fortunate boy is truly awe-inspiring and just incredibly sweet. I have an even greater appreciation for him and now I can see where all of this moral character in his characters/stories comes from; it basically comes from him, and was always inside of him and he lived his life through his characters and I was blessed to be able to be taken on a journey with him through the world of Kamandi. I have been in law enforcement for 28 years and he still inspires me to this day to fight the good fight and be the best person I can be living my life in Christ as best I can and seeing this video really choked me up thank you so much for posting these treasurers. I 've known fellow fans who SO respected him,that IF they had ever gotten a chance to be in a room with him,would NOT have been able to speak one single word, for they would have been unable to.

Stan Lee always had the misconception that editing the dialogs in a comic was in fact "writing".
@@comicbookguy6361 It IS a type of writing. Would the comics have sold as well with blank speech bubbles
@@JarJarBinks4ever Maybe you don't know this, but Jack Kirby not only drew those comics but also created the stories too, and he left dialog suggestions on the margins of the artwork for Stan Lee so he could understand the story and could do his job...Just editing the dialogs with his own words.
The worst part, Stan Lee took all the glory and fame for the job Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and many others did.

One talented human being. lee,kirby and ditko. The Holy Trinity of the Marvel Universe and why it is the way it is today. Without any of those people we wouldn't have what we love and that is Marvel Comics
Was glad to meet him a few times. First when I was about 13 at a local convention and a few more as the years went by. Truly one of the most creative cartoonist to ever walk the planet! Very gracious man!

What a kind soul he was. He was really the King of comic books.
He was a great man and the comics industry was blessed to have him. He was an incredibly kind, humble person who endured what many people today would call a hard life.
He forever changed the world with his work and influenced so many. One of the best story tellers and artists to ever do it.
Even though he was incredibly popular and well loved by his fans during his time, he still never received the proper credit and recognition he deserved. It’s sad he was never even able to get his original work back.
I’m glad the times have changed, and things are very different now with creator rights and royalties, but more still needs to be done to help out creators today.
The characters and stories he left behind are simply amazing!
To have met, engaged with, listened to and just been around one of the greatest American comics artist in history 💥🌟❤️

R.I.P., JACK
I knew of the man for a long time, but only started to read his works. I do enjoy his Eternals. But what a great guy, I really wish i could have met him. Man I was 11 when this was filmed and just getting into comics, yet I already knew Marvel and DC from TV. But truly a great lose to the comic world, we need more folk like Kirby.

Today Marvel movies are makin billions and hordes fo modern nerds watch in awe at some not so great movies, citing them by the minute like some sort of a bible, while most of them have never heard Kirby's name, I find it unacceptable
