    I love it. A look inside the process. Kinda seeing how it all comes together, which helps us artists in learning cause usually all we ever see is the finished product. Thanks for showing this.

    Romita should probably get more credit for all those Marvel covers he put out....really gave Marvel a cohesive feel during the 70's.
    Great video.

      John Romita was art director in the 70s and had a hand in a lot of the covers even if he didn't draw them. So yeah he deserves a lot of credit. Gil Kane did a lot of nice 1970s Marvel covers too.

    That was really cool! I like all of the "process" notes as well. Thank you for sharing that, I will enjoy talking about it later at work!

    Thanks for sharing and great comments/descriptions with lots of interesting trivia Jared. I don't usually go for those BIG pricey books, but this one looks full of awesome! Very tempting....

      I really like these artist edition books. They are real pricey though. I seem to always be pinching my pennies to be able to afford one. I have a few more I have to show off.

    Wow, thanks for the look inside. This one appears to be the same size as the Kirby Artists Edition, opposed to the Steranko one yet this is amazing to see those great covers. I will be adding this to my wish list indeed.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  9 років тому

      It is the same size as the Kirby one. Post mid-1960s comic art is all one and a half times up as compared to the pre-mid 60s stuff that's twice up. You can see in the Sternako one the exact time when they switched over to the smaller sized original art.

    Cochrum did so many of those X-Men covers, because he knew doing them pissed Byrne off.

    Normally I'm not buying the artist editions, but I had to buy this one even though I'm not so well known in the superhero universe. Some really great covers and a great video which show them all.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  6 років тому

      A lot of times I love the covers even if I don't like the comics!

    • @SteenbergOldies
      @SteenbergOldies 6 років тому

      I have bought a lot of the most famous and classic superhero omnibuses and are looking forward to read them. The Ditko Spider-man is a little boring in the beginning, I think I'm more into the Romita Sr. stuff. The artist edition contain a lot of great covers, but in some cases they have also chosen some which are not that good and a lot better choices could have been made. I normally read Euro-classics and non hero US-classics.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  6 років тому

      I was into Marvel as a kid but have read mostly indie stuff since the mid-1980s. The Ditko issues are my favorite Spider-Man comics. They were very inventive. The rest of it is all kind of the same to me. I like and dislike it to varying degrees but none of it matches Ditko.
      They can only print the covers they have access to in the Artist Editions so I doubt they could get their hands on all their choices.

    • @SteenbergOldies
      @SteenbergOldies 6 років тому

      Yes, that is maybe it. A lot of people do like Ditko and I like him too, I just think Romita Sr. was better. We made a poll on a Danish comic website and here Romita Sr. won the poll over Ditko (most people are +40 years). There is an other review of the artist edition and in the start he said (edited quote): "...The potential was great, I feel it was a little bit disappointing in the selection, they could have selected a lot of better covers..". In Europe most people read Donald Duck and then later the European comics when they are kids. As teens some discovered the superhero's. I read a little superhero's, but prefered the European comics and some of the classic US-comics, like Hal Foster, Alex Raymond and Al Williamson etc.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  6 років тому

      Romita's work is a lot more glamorous than Ditko's. Romita eventually made Spider-Man even more popular than before and a lot of people prefer his Spidey. It's a little bit too glamorous for me. Though I do like Romita I prefer the grittiness of Ditko.
      Donald Duck comics are almost unknown here in the USA. Unless you were a kid in the 1950s they weren't printed much. As a kid in the 1970s I read more about the duck comics than I read the comics. I knew who Carl Barks was but almost never saw his comics. Don Rosa was also mentioned throughout the 1980s.Then they always mentioned how popular they were in Europe.
      And lots of people were disappointed their favorite covers weren't in there. But you can't please everyone. Especially when most of the covers aren't available to print from.

    Wonderful covers in this book,but it should include perhaps the most iconic cover by Jim Starlin,Captain Marvel#29,where captain Marvel has a very determined and intimitated look in his face,before the alteration by John Romita Sr.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  9 років тому

      That is a cover I'd love to see. IDW always says they're restricted by the art they can actually get so maybe that one wasn't available. Or maybe we'll get it in a future volume. I hope so!

      This one cost me $110 which makes it one of the cheaper Artists Editions if you can believe that. These Artist Editions are the reason I haven't bought many back issues or collected editions over the last couple of years. They will eat into a budget! I wish I could get them all but alas...

    Regarding Beast covers at 7:35 - I'd never heard the 14 months of frame covers had a connection to the FF 10th anniversary. Though the timing is right. Has this been noted anywhere else?

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  4 роки тому

      I have never seen it noted anywhere. I got that info from John Romita himself in the early 1990s. I asked him why they did that and he told me it was to celebrate a tenth anniversary. But then he couldn't remember what tenth anniversary so he figured it must have been FF #1 (or maybe Spider-Man). I usually just refer to them as "Tenth Anniversary Covers" these days.

    Of all the awesome Jack Kirby Marvel covers, they choose these??? Does some former Marvel employees have the best examples holed away from public viewing?

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn  9 років тому

      A lot of Kirby's art went missing from the Marvel offices and warehouse over the years. Who knows what IDW had to choose from but they always say they they can only print what they can get access to.

      It's excellent. There is a 90s version of a Marvel covers book too that I'll have to get some day. I'm less of a 90s Marvel fan though.
