Which Bike Should You Buy? | 2022 250 MX Shootout

Most of the 2022 machines are officially here and refinement seemed to be the name of the game in the 250 class, as small changes - rather than major overhauls - highlight the Yamaha YZ250F, while, the Gas Gas MC250F, Husqvarna FC 250, KTM 250SX-F, and Kawasaki KX250 returned unchanged. However, the Honda CRF250R came into 2022 as an all-new machine and arguably the most anticipated bike of the year. We’ve been comparing the bikes since we started taking delivery of the 2022s way back in July and after one final day of back-to-back testing the six bikes (Suzuki is unchanged and unreleased at the moment and has politely requested to not contend in the 2022 shootout), our panel of six test riders arrived at a verdict and crowned the 2022 Swapmoto Live 250 MX Bike of the Year.

Seems just a little unrealistic that there's no disparity amongst the rider's top picks. No lap times either. I'll bet once set up, any of those bikes can and will be winning at the local level.

Its all personal opinion, Im an Ex New england pro rider from long time ago, Vet A level now.. I currently have a 2021 yzf250 and its got alot of meat with the power but it runs out quick and i have to shift twice as much around the track as my slightly modded 2019 Honda 250f, I also prefer the turning and flickability of The Honda, yamaha just takes a little more effort, once used to the yzf you dont notice the width unless your jumping off any of the other bikes. Personally, ive ridden a 2022 Honda and the power is Really close to my yamaha, hard to tell them apart. I currently am on a waiting list for a 2022 Honda 250f... I THINK its better than the yamaha for my style and how i ride.

I just sold a 2022 CRF250R because the power was way less than I thought it should have compared to the Yz250F.

Thanks for the input Rob. Definitely agree at the end of the day it’s more personal preference than anything. You could have a full factory bike with no flaws whatsoever, but if you aren’t comfortable with it, it could very easily hurt you as we have seen with so many very talented riders. Also at times I disagree with the shootouts as they are basing these bikes off of just one track which as great as a bike may be on a Cali track, it could be horrible on a track in Florida or a New England track such as Unadilla or Southwick. Wish you all the best my friend and hope you along with your family are doing well. 👍🏻🏁🖤

My 19 250f with factory connection n my choice of Carmichael bars, I did other mods too but the thing rode like a board I could not ride that bike it pulled really really hard and good though ended up going back to a 125 found myself getting caught up in life with no time to ride but I was always comfy on a kawi 250

I hate when they say that shit about the gas gas and husky. "Well the ktm wins cuz it didn't let gas gas and husky use their vented airbox design" like cmon dude. Take the covers off run em side by side. It's a 2 way tie with husky and ktm and gas gas slightly behind.

As much as I can see where these riders are coming from, I think any rider looking to buy a new bike should test every one of them out for themselves. Each and every one of these bikes have their strongpoints, but I have seen first hand that the best reviewed and raved about bike could sometimes not truly be the best. It is awesome though watching you guys put in so much hard work each year to give your input on each bike and for that, I say God bless you guys and wish each and every one of you all the best. 👍🏻🏁🖤
