Great video! I think gold road is alright, 7/10. If you are strapped for cash then wait until next year, if not then get it. Scribing is neat but a little underwhelming for me. I’m also concerned that it will contribute to class identity erosion. But overall I think the scribing system has a good foundation that they can continue to update. The main quest made me a little sad because like you, I found it to be mundane and also un-impactful/safe. I would say my favorite thing about gold road is the zone (even though it’s a bit too bright at times lol), the furnishing styles, and skill styles. I like that there have been so many free and earnable goodies this year and hope that they continue with this even after the anniversary is over. Especially earnable goodies.
Unfortunately, they locked the companions for this chapter behind the crown store or ESO plus. Yet changed full price for this expansion. And yes, I'm a fan of companions...
@Kalam0n I love scribing, though feel it's directed a little bit more towards Majic users right now. The Mirror styles were awesome and have 2 of my characters kitted out, working on a Lucient Sentinel at the mo.
Could we get some info on your PC Specs and your video settings? Your game looks really good (especially in the "Skingrad is the new Goat City" section) and I'm curious about how you managed to get it to look that way.
PC specs below - it's nothing special though. In-game, everything is maxed other than view distance / particle distance, 2560x1440 resolution, I keep the gamma turned down lower than recommended to improve shadows/contrast and I use LSAO Ambient Occlusion which seems to look the best with my PC. I don't use Reshade or anything like that, but I will occasionally add a filter to clips in a video. I'm hoping to upgrade the PC soon, as this is a 5-year-old build. I have been playing a ton of ESO this year.. got the chapter, haven't even touched the scribing stuff but love the new area, the Delves are good.. the public dungeons need more bosses, or maybe just bosses with more phases. I have always thought PUBLIC dungeons need to have 1 shot mechanics to make it more different that delves
I did find the Public Dungeon Group Event Bosses to be more challenging than usual. A step in the right direction when it comes to overworld challenges.
Agreed! Even with the event increasing supply, they are still hard to come by, and of course there's no guarantee of a Lead. I just wish we had a way to farm specific zone Treasure maps.
@@Kalam0n they dropped the rate of finding leads on console too lol a month ago I used to find one every other map... Now I can go through 10 maps without finding a single one!
As a story, I’ve found GR to be the flattest, most underwhelming chapter to date. I found some of the wood elf characters just outright irritating. When I got to the end, I honestly thought “is that it?” High Isle gets grief but it’s a way better story than Gold Road. Agree with you on Skingrad though. That was my favourite city in Oblivion.
I am a bit tired of this same formal for every chapter, almost the same sized map, same styles like Dark Anchors event, 2 public dungeons, and trail. They can put as many skills in Scribing as they can, doesn't change the fact they are simply visually boring, like torch swipe in fighter guilds skill, come on... It's crazy that this is not even close to being as cool as spell crafting in the 2014 ESO showcase.
While I'm a fan of the current implementation of scribing, I am also very, very tired of the yearly chapter format. I hate that I already _know_ the 2025 chapter will have exactly 2 public dungeons, 6 world bosses, 6 delves, another round of reskinned dark anchor world events, 3 overworld gearsets, 1 new trial, 4 trial sets, 1 new city, an inn room, and maybe 1 large home. They need to start breaking away from this formula just to keep things interesting.
Great review! oh, but VIVEC CITY RULES! for crafting writs, at least for me. I have to hit the bank on every toon while doing writs so the extra door in skingrad makes it take too long.

I am disappointed by that decision as well, Gold Road definitely felt a little bit 'light' on content, especially if Scribing isn't your thing.

you wont want em trust me.
Love your collected take man!

I love your chill vibes man
Good review, I agree with most of your points.

@@Kalam0n I think a public dungeon should be a small step above zone bosses
You forgot that they finally gave necros longers pets, and actually major buffs to their skills hahah
Hello, when are you going to update Kal's Grimdark Battlepack to 1.21.1? The last time it was updated was on version 1.19.4 .,
Very recently! 1.21 is now available on Modrinth! modrinth.com/resourcepack/battlepack
I HATE that the new furnishings are locked behind a HARD TO FIND treasure chest :(

My Necro is jealous of your shirt...
Thanks! It was just a cool find at a local shop, but here's a link (not a sponsor). pyknic.com/products/pizza-slayer-button-up-shirt
Kalam0n always the best !
Scribing is mainly for mainly hardcore players who are going for score pushes in PVE or for PVP . Other than that it is not require for most peope.
Definitely not required - but I love it for my casual themed builds.
The man drops again!! Love it. Awesome video and totally agree

As one of the few weirdos who casually plays this game for the story, this review completely turned me off.
If story is your top priority, I think this is one chapter I'd consider waiting until it's included with ESO+.
Why is that? Is it bad? 😬
