      My parents are 85 years old and my mom never stopped using lard to cook. She never liked the smell of any seed oil or olive oil when you heat it so refused to use it when it became the "right" oil to eat. They have have zero issues with their heart and take no medication today.

      I’ve always believed that there is no such thing as a canola plant. That the rapeseed plant is the actual name and when Canada created a market and started shipping it to the US it became known as Can-ola oil to hide the fact that rapeseed oil is not fit for human consumption but only for use as an industrial lubricant.

    The sesame oil we get in asian grocery store is the most fragrant oil I have tasted.
    From Wikipedia, "Sesame oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from sesame seeds. Besides being used as a cooking oil, it is used as a flavor enhancer in many cuisines, having a distinctive nutty aroma and taste."

      In South India, traditionally we used wooden press to produce Sesame oil, which was dark, thick and very flavorsome. The same oil produced these days using modern methods has no flavor in comparison.

    • @kynchan3332
      @kynchan3332 3 роки тому +2

      I wouldn't use it as a cooking oil because the taste would be too strong. But a small amount as a flavouring agent is wonderful. Also sesame oil is quite expensive compared to other vegetable oils (6 to 7 times more dear than peanut, rapeseed and sunflower; 3 to 4 times more than lard as a common animal comparison).
      Today, sesame oil is often blended with other vegetable oils so manufacturers can improve their margins and still call it sesame oil.

    The bad oils are the oils sold in the grocery store which are not organic. These oils are produced by using high heat, extenders, deodorizers, etc. The result is that you now have an oil which is already oxidized and ready to do damage to anyone that swallows it. Omega 6 from whole foods is very good for you but the Omega 6 LA from these industrial oils are oxidized and very unhealthy. No one wants to cook with oils that are high in Omega 3 ALA even if they are organic because they will oxidize from the heat during cooking. The only oils I use are organic extra virgin olive oil but I add this oil after cooking my food in either water or broth and I cook with organic extra virgin coconut oil or organic butter because they are very stable. Processed foods, fast food, restaurant food mainly use the industrial processed oils which are causing many health problems.

    • @lifelock355
      @lifelock355 3 роки тому +1

      I think so too , within normal balance unprocessed oils are mostly good. Its about having a balance of healthy oils. I think many of the debates about single components of diet over another single component is extremely silly. Is like arguing over vitamin A vs vitamin C.

    Corn oil aka Canola oil from Canada, it's an omega 6 rich processed oil, which we know its a fattening inflammatory oil that we humans never evolved eating in such quantities... I fail to see how its content of ALA omega 3 could chase away so much Omega6.
    Very high content of polyunsaturated fats is what makes fast food so bad, everything else people routinely eat at home.

    • @tatonipalus

      I fail to see what is the link between canola oil and corn oil. By definition canola oil is "a vegetable oil derived from a variety of rapeseed that is low in erucic acid, as opposed to colza oil. There are both edible and industrial forms produced from the seed of any of several cultivars of the plant family Brassicaceae"

    It might be easier for some of us to understand the science if you draw it up on a board or edit in some pictures.
    For example, to help us understand the difference in the composition of different types of fat, or even the results of studies such as the Spanish study to help us visualize the improvements seen in Olive oil consumers vs nuts vs low fat.

    I don’t understand. When my liver enzymes were elevated, I went on a whole food low fat vegan diet. All my markers went down. I ate a ton of carbs and lost weight. People kept telling me to eat meat to gain weight. One liver enzyme even decreased below normal. I’ve always had low triglycerides and they continued to be low while eating that way. All inflammatory markers were very low. I think I have always had lower blood sugar levels. I’m a thin person. Once I ate a bowl of oatmeal with berries before a blood test and my glucose was under 100? Idk whether to add more fat or not at this point. I don’t eat that clean now or totally plant based but just trying to eat healthy and cut out added sugar and processed foods. We will see how that goes.

      If you eat whole fruit, you are probably fine, as you get with fructose the fiber so part of the fructose is not absorbed. I think the problem with fructose is that it is in high quantities in other foods like baked goods, salad dressings and other things we don't suspect. Prepacked, processed food has little fiber and high sugar, in the US, that sugar often is high fructose corn syrop.

    I think Eisenhower got his heart attack from the introduction and heavy promotion of margarine at that time. He was probably one of the first to adopt margarine and trans fats into his diet because he was able to afford them, and probably was lobbied heavily by the food industry to think trans fats were actually healthier than unprocessed fats like butter and olive oil that we were already using.
    Dr. Johanna Budwig was a margarine researcher that discovered this about margarine, and spoke out about its damage to health, and was fired for it. She later became a medical doctor and developed the Budwig Diet which is still in use today for many health issues, including as a cancer treatment.

    So what your saying is we should reduce ceramide production because it's bad for you right?
    I google ceramide and this is what it said about it.
    "Ceramides hold skin together and form a protective layer to help prevent moisture loss and visible damage from environmental stressors. Ceramides also help to keep your skin supple. ... These are ceramide precursors and help upper layers of skin to produce more ceramide, so that skin can protect itself better."
    So "ceramide" is bad for your memory and energy level but good for your skin?

    Loved your podcast as always and have one of your books. Next time I visit Acciaroli in Cilento I’ll ask the locals about the rosemary (Rosmarino). Yes rosemary is very common here, especially used on roasting any type of meat. It is even common to see it growing wild along the roadside of some areas on the way down to Cilento from Napoli. I live in the south of Italy and love the food here and of course wonderful olive oil here too. Your podcasts taught me how to choose my olive oil too. I didn’t know that all virgin oils are not equal. Would you also suggest a few drops of organic rosemary oil to be added to the diet? I also love the way it smells to use as aromatherapy. (bio rosmarino alimentary). Also, could you do a continued podcast on other oils such as hemp, CDC oil, black seed oil, etc. Thanks for sharing this valuable information!

    So which is the best Olive oil? Virgin or extra virgin etc

    • @ideoformsun5806
      @ideoformsun5806 3 роки тому +1

      The least processed.
      The freshest. So no rancidity.
      Non-GMO, so organic.
      Unadulterated with other oils. This is a known problematic supply issue. I guess make sure you know your supplier is honest. Good luck with that.
      If oils are super-important for your family's long term health, it's worth getting the best available to you. I buy mine in bulk when I can. But only enough that my family uses it before it spoils. Real oils spoil. Fake oils don't.

      It’s probably better to eat olives as it’s hard to make fake olives as there is a big industry in fake olive oil.

    • @eduhaile5853

      Rod,
      Avocado is a king of plants, golden plant. Eat the avocado instead of the avocado oil, because you don't know what they add in it.
      If you make yourself the avocado oil ,I mean cold pressed... then it's okay.

    I would love to listen to your content on such important topics, is there a possibility of breaking it up into shorter segments?
    That way some of us can listen without pausing it and later starting it and losing our place, or worse, not returning to it because of the time element of45 min. to one and a half hours. I love the 10-15-minutes! That's doable for busy people. I have dropped some of my fav people who have great podcasts because of the length. If it doesn't work for you, no worries, I understand. Covid or not, I try to fit as many productive things into my day, even some chill time with a book, a walk in nature, and just being present with my husband and family. Social media seems to be the center for most people sadly enough.

    Thank you for sharing this information about oils. Wish you a healthy and successful new year. I do a test with the ingredients that are used in the produced food industry. When you start with these ingredients for breakfast, you are a user of sugars for the rest of the day. The combination of ingredients makes your body think that you "need the sugars."

      Fruit oils, such as olive and avocado are better than the seed oils. The oil is pressed from the flesh not the pit. Avocado tolerates heat much better than olive.

      You can get all the essential oils you need from an animal based diet such as fish, beef, pork, poultry. The human body simply does not need plants to survive, however, it's the animals that need plants to survive. Plants have their place in the form of producing natural medicines, the way God intended, not pharma.

    • @marcosross790
      @marcosross790 3 роки тому +1

      @@patrickh709 I have noticed people who eat lost of or all animal diet are not near as good as plant only people.
      Take your average milk drinking European. They are easily confused. They have trouble to see the difference between plant based milk and animal milk. God knows if it's cause there is no difference.
      Our plant eating athletes out perform the meat eaters at every level. And they stay at their level for years longer.
      Meat eaters bring diseases upon us. Take Covid-19, thanks to bat eaters. AIDs, from the monkey eaters. CJD FROM the mad cow eaters. The list goes on. Meat eating SHOULD be banned. End of story, period, full Stop!!!

    • @timmjackson
      @timmjackson 3 роки тому +7

      @@marcosross790 You've clearly drank a lot of plant based Kool Aid. Nothing you've said is true. Milk by definition comes only from mammals. Food industry may try to convince you that nut juice is milk but it isn't. The data doesn't support your contentions about athletic performance, nor cognition. There was a RCT done a few years back in Africa involving children and their development and school performance. Two items, animal proteins and dairy products boosted their performance more than control groups. Boosting total calories from plant sources had a beneficial effect but not nearly so much as including animal products. Covid-19 is not from a wet market or bat eaters. Stop spreading CCP propaganda. Banning animal products is a horrible idea. You are coming from a position of privilege where you can go to a market and get your year round avocados and bananas imported from elsewhere and take your factory made supplements. Travel to the third world where a goat or a cow or a pig or some chickens maybe the difference between protein deficiency and health (stunted physical and mental potential of vulnerable children). The manure regenerates the soil without the need for industrial produced chemical fertilizers. A well managed farm with animals is a net carbon sink. Your brain has turned to mush without the necessary levels of DHA and EPA and likely B-12 which you can't get sufficiently from either algae or eating dirty vegetables as has been claimed. There has never been a vegan culture until very recently because the very idea of abandoning the foods which made us human makes about as much evolutionary sense as trying to feed a koala something other than eucalyptus.
