  • Four times I tried to glue, patch, sand and paint the corners of these two side tables. Each time I could still see texture in the paint - the outline of damage I couldn't get smooth.
Wood Filler didn't work. Bondo didn't work.
I was fighting a losing battle because ultimately the damaged veneer was lifting.
    These tables required drastic measures.

I always learn something from your videos and I really appreciate you showing the true process, not just an edited before and after with smooth progress. It is a fact of life that it’s a two step forward one step back dance sometimes.

Oh my, oh my. They turned out really nice! I would have wanted to give up each time. So it seems like gluing loose veneer doesn't always work, peeling it off and filling the space is better for painting a piece?

If the damage is on the top where visibility and traffic is high, AND YOU'RE PAINTING OVER THE AREA, then most likely. I've found the same to be true with damage that exposes press board which has swelled with moisture. BUT, always try to glue/fill/sand first.
