Great review video, Mike. I am doing well but youTube decided that I no longer want to watch your videos, again. Busy with life but I am having a Mike Smith binge right now. I hope everyone you care about is safe, happy, and healthy.
It's funny how the algorithm works ... and it is so annoying sometimes ... hopefully with your binge watching of my latest videos, it will tell youtube that you do want to watch them again!! As always thanks for watching Lance 😁👍
Thank so much dude! I try to keep them as an on-location video so there is still something to watch even if you're not interested in the product. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
loved the video, i use a freewell magnetic 10 stop nd filter and am planning on getting some polarisers in the future, i like the ease of the magnetic backs, this kit looked interesting as well, i chose the freewell magnetic from a video where you reviewed it, amazing captures this week as well, keep up the awesome videos , can not wait to see your next one
Thanks very much Kipp! I like the freewell ones as well and when I am going on a long hike, they are my prefered choice ... I might do a comparison video in the future between these, the freewells and no filters at all ... As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Photo at 10.40 is the dog's obvious! I'm not into filters (I have a polariser) due mainly to the faff of carrying more kit, price and, that I also like the editing process; I feel it gives me more control over the final look. I'd love to have seen a lot of your comparison shots showing 'with filter' and 'without filter but with an edit' to see how closely you could get the images without the extra kit. Maybe in another video! 😉 Getting the most from a basic setup does it for me. Another great video 👌🏼
Thanks dude! Great to hear what you think of these filters. I know what you mean, the price is pretty steep, especially when a second hand camera and lens combo would probably cost less than just these filters. Now that's a good idea...might have to do that one on one of the rainy weeks later in the year. As always, thanks for watching! 😁👍 ...and it looks like UA-cam had allowed your comments to get posted again...🤔😆
Another Good video Mike .. I bought the complete Lee filter system about 15 years ago … good but so expensive (£800) with all the adapters etc… nearly paid it off ..lol
Haha! They are pricey aren't they ... I've heard good things about the lee filters ... I think nowadays, all of the top systems work really well ... Good to hear it has lasted through the years! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Credible post, Mike. 6 months of usage a plus. Almost did a “spit take” at the price - good thing I wasn’t drinking something at the time😁. My use case doesn’t justify the purchase, but might be for others. Venue looks like good comps for “minimalist” images. Don’t recall if you’ve covered that subject in prior vids. If not, might be a topic worth showcasing. Cheers!
Haha! It is quite pricey isn't it ... that's the thing that has always put me off these filter sets. Even with this one I have found that I sometimes would need a slightly stronger filter than three stops with really bright sunsets ... so more money on top of this as well ... I haven't done a minimalist video yet ... it's on the cards and should be coming later in the year. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Great review, Mike. I have bought and tried various ND and CP filters, but never a drop in system. I almost pulled the trigger on the Lee filter system, but kind of decided that I would not get the use out of it to justify the price. Exposure blending and some of the cheaper magnetic systems are what I tend to use when I want to shoot longer exposures. I love the concept of the clip in filters, but in the end find them a pain to change out and as a result, don't use them much. This seems like a good system, but just like the Lee filters, I am not sure I would use them enough to justify the price. You did get some great shots, though. Take care, brother.
Thanks dude! They are quite pricey aren't they ... I like them but they do take a bit of extra time to set up and then sometimes a faff to get working properly ... I've found I sometimes like using these filters (mostly at the beach) and other times, I prefer stacking and blending. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Most definitely! They come in handy when you are shooting throughout the day and add a little bit of saturation to your images, as well as giving you the option of cutting the glare on any bodies of water. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
I think PolarPro is the only filter system with large enough control wheels on the polarization filter to adjust it with gloves on. So for cold climate I can only recommend PolraPro.
That is something to take into consideration when in colder climates like yours. I've found this was ok with the gloves I use but with thicker gloves, it might be a bit of a struggle to turn the CPL. As always thanks for watching 😁👍
No I haven't used those. I also have the freewell magnetic filters and they are great. Haida do produce great quality glass for all of their filters. Thanks for watching 😁👍
@@mikesphotography im pretty much binge watching your content at this point lol i read the Freewells fall off the camera easily when walking around, but is fine when using a tripod. ever have that problem? thanks for the reply!
I've been in the market for a good filter kit and am looking at the NiSi brand. Do you have any experience or heard of any comments about them? Good/Bad.... Also, are you doing critiques anymore?
Hi Peter, I've used the Nisi system as well as this one ... and also the magnetic freewell filters. The thing I like with this one over the Nisi system is the ease of inserting and removing the CPL. With the Nisi filter, you have to take off any filters you have in place to get the CPL in and out, which gets a little annoying after a while ... The freewells are good but like the screw-on ones, are limited in that you can't have grad filters ... but then again, exposure bracketing covers this ... but then increases the amount of post processing you need to do. I am concentrating on the on location videos this year ... but will be setting up a mentorship program later in the year, as well as one on one critiques that really do help get your photography to the next level ... I'll be letting you all know here when all of that is available. Thanks for watching 😁👍
I see no benefit to this system as long as you are able to exposure bracket. I certainly agree that this extortionate amount of money would be better used on lenses.
Oh and Llyn y Dywarchen is a fantastic location for milky way photography - I got an amazing shot of the tree with the Milky Way arching over. I think it was about April 2021
The only benefit is if you are into longer exposures ... but then again, the screw/magnetic ones do the same job at a fraction of the price ... I was gobsmacked when I read the price of this kit ... I bet that looked pretty cool with the milkyway ... and Snowdon in the background; I'm sure that would have lessened the amount of light pollution that you sometimes get on the horizon with other locations. It's been so long since I went out on an astrophotography shoot so I am really looking forward to getting out under the stars again when I get back to the uk in a few weeks (been living in Asia for the last two years and there is so much light pollution here!!). Thanks for watching 😁👍
For me, I'm done with review videos...this is the last one I have to make... From now on, it's all about locations, compositions and kit I buy myself. And even a few fun videos! 😁👍
Ufff, a filter kit that cost as a camera body..... may be not a pro camera, but a good one for beginers or as a hoby....may be if one lives from photography one can justify to pay that pices, but for an amateur user i think it's a bit expensive.....

Nice review. I use Nisi and they not cheap also. I may buy the M10-II for my second lens. This one looks a lot better removing and adding.
I've used both and the M10 is so much better for adding/removing the CPL... much less hassle than the Nisi.
