Chris and Johnny " Serpico", you are both Blessed with amazing talents. You are boh living testaments of the American Dream, where with hard work and dedication, you can be or do anything you set your mind to. Thank you again for including me in this project. Thank you Mr. Serpico for making it look like I can still catch a fish. Chris scorched me with my bait during this shoot, and I was OK with it.😅😅😅 . Back in the day, I would've went into isolation and counseling sessions...
God Bless both of you! TFIT

Damn this made me smile! Learned almost everything I know about fishing from mr Barrack on the CA delta and we all owe him for the modern day frog and what it can do! Bobby isn’t just an amazing frog fisherman but an tremendous source of knowledge and true og pioneer of bass fishing! Miss him since he moved to Texas….

I just started fishing last year. After a while I made it my mission to catch a bass on the frog. It took a long time, but when I landed my first one I was so happy! I've been landing them on the frog pretty well ever since!

Thanx again Zaldy for the coverage. I’m honored to have had 4 days in the boat with the Master Blaster Bobby Barrack. I learned more listening & watching than I would have in months of fishing. Replicating his total approach & feeding off his knowledge is priceless. Luv you Bobby for making my addiction healthy & transferable onto my granddudes. Total respect

Having grown up in the Bay Area and getting into bass fishing in the 2000s seeing you help bring Bobby Barrack mainstream is so awesome and almost nostalgic! Not only a wizard with a frog but his casting skills are absolutely insane. His quotes alone make him a national treasure. My 2 favorites being "she shamooed it" and "I gave her the bad news" 😂
Hope a part 2 comes out and especially a video of him demonstrating how he casts!

I remember when the original tournament frogs came out in the 90’s. Me and my buddy bought a bunch and added brass beads, glass beads and inserted other noise maker things in those frogs, and we would absolutely kill the fish, because nobody was doing it. We’d trim the legs and kind of get them to walk, but Bobby was right when braid came out it was a game changer. At that time just being a high school kid, I couldn’t afford the braid when it came out, but when I finally got my hands on some, it changed my game. Favorite frog set up was a 7’6” MH flippin stick with a quantum pro 3 reel.

I feel so blessed to have been able to go out with Bobby for Striper and froggin trips. Arguably the best delta guide ever. His stories, and persona were worth the price of a trip but the knowledge he dropped to help you get better and understand what/why… he could have charged double!
I watched it twice to soak up pearls of wisdom
You could do an epic series of BB lessons on the delta!

As a kid around 12 years old we'd go down to the mud hole, tie trout flies on and catch a bucketful of live frogs. Then take them to a farm pond we fished, hook them through the lips with a #2 weed less hook pitch them out and they might get five feet kicking across the surface before they'd get blown up. I still reminisce about those days 50 years later. Frogs catch giants

I flyfish with frog patterns usually a smaller size cause the spots i often fish the fish only get about 3 or 4 lbs max. And i do pretty well with the bass and sunfish that are big enough to eat it. My personal theory is they think its a grasshopper because there's alot of them and have watched panfish gang up rip an unfortunate grasshopper to shreds. And the subtle bite is exactly what ive always experienced on topwater when i used to expect giant explosions😂

I remember going to TB and as I kid and never been to Sam Rayburn so me and my dad went and fished and I got that book and red it on the drive back to TB riged 2 frogs with the top hook and caught a 10lb 3oz a 5lb 8oz & 2 that where 4lb 1oz&9oz I seen a couple people fishing like that but not many. But I know 4 people who fish a frog this way anymore and I showed 3 of them and the other is an old man his 78-82 years old I guess and he’s still a hammer. And fish’s his frogs on a Pistol grip old rod that has to be 3lb’s with the old Abu Garcia reel with the Flipping button and the other one has the Hook set button. Before you time I believe but man the good old days I miss

As I watch this, its funny that the pros aren't teaching one really important thing when fishing a frog. When a fish hits a frog you cant just set the hook, count to 2, then set the hook. When I learned this I haven't missed a fish on a frog yet because of this simple little lesson. Count to 2, then set the hook. It gives the fish a chance to get the frog deeper in its mouth.

To compare what was happening in fishing at the time frame that Byron talks about (or with the frog lures here), a very unusual snapshot was captured about that time period then, in a book. Which explains just how much innovation happened in the 80's and 90's decades. That we don't appreciate now. It was prior to when trout anglers figured out big baits on rivers like the White River tailwaters of Arkansas and other places. Roman Moser and such anglers in Austria were moving in a direction then. Others in New Zealand, Argentina, Scandinavia and lots in north America. John Roberts edited a collection of essays by anglers from around the world with hand painted illustrations. The Worlds Best Trout Flies. It's one I'd recommend having on a shelf and reading. It's thirty years old now, but lots of those anglers since have done other things (many in that old text have taken their fly fishing from freshwater to saltwater). Like what Frank Scalish did, moving from northern steelhead guiding to saltwater fly angling in Florida. Oliver Edwards in the book I recall was one of first there who imitated crawfish, and understood that large trout will feed on crawfish (bass anglers figured that out way earlier).
