The power wagon and the Tacoma are probably the toughest though. Those two trucks are built to last and can just have the crap beat out of them over and over again.
I still got a 2001 taco ..TRD package the whole 9 yards..with lift kit, new tires, new wheels etc..have 195,000 on it an it still runs flawless. .Taco 4 life! !!
I love the customization of the Tacoma, and the fact that you can get into one, new or used, for a decent price. I also like all the TRD products available. I agree w/ you, I'd love to see Toyota do some type of specialty truck like what Ford has done w/ the Raptor. Neither a Taco, a Tundra, or a 4Runner -- something different. I'd also like to see Chevrolet/GM build a truck too. Competition in the marketplace will only make these vehicles better. Let's not even get into Jeep JK's -- love em.
Tacoma is the best, sure it might not be as good as the Raptor stock but jesus christ have you seen the aftermarket potential for those things? If you get the ford the most you can do aftermarket is idk fit a new sound system in or something...
I'll take that Tacoma and install a 3 inch lift, front Detroit locker, TRD supercharger and bank the extra $7k instead of buying the Raptor that will be worth less than half its MSRP in 5 years/ 100k miles.
Dylan Wheeler I bet you shop at Walmart or Target where 99% of their products are not made in America. I'll stick to my Tacoma, Ducati and my future Honda CBR1000RR... and when I'm ready to buy a car I'll be buying a Mercedes. Does that make you angry? LMAO
No I don't I'm wearing a shirt from ohio and pants from Tennessee cause my buddy owns the company I wear called arbor wear my cigarettes are from Richmond VA my red man Owensboro KY my beer is from golden CO and my 93 mustang is from Dearborn Michigan so please explain to me why I would be mad at the comment I made I know where my shit comes from unlike you where you can't pronounce the name where the city it came from
I don't smoke. I don't drink alcohol. I buy my clothes from the mall, Walmart or Target. I don't care where they're made from. But so far Alpinestars, Arai and Shoei all have saved my life on multiple crashes. I'll go check where they were made when I give a shit... which will most likely be never. Have a nice day dude.
this is a gr8 comparo, unbiased and very realistic, informative, honest and spot-on, I really like it you guys just disregard the price factor and instead focus on what those trucks are really meant to do... many of the comparison I watched considered highly the price range that's why sometimes the comparison become pointless...
I've owned many 4x4 in my life, in 2008 I got a brand new Tacoma 4x4 & I couldn't be happier!!!! & the $20 Grand I save, from not buying a Raptor, I could buy some many things for the Taco, like some killer tires, CAI, nice Rims, a Lift, a winch, skid plates, wow I could go on & on!!
I drive a Fronty and it's ONLY disadvantage from the factory is ground clearance. Extended coilovers, aftermarket UCAs, and Add-a- Leafs can fix that for about $1500. And for another $1000 or so you can do a direct swap of the Titan control arms and front diff. The Fronties come from the factory with a rear locker and 265 horsepower all under 4500 lbs. If Nissan made the Frontier's ground clearance as aggressive as the Taco they would be VERY comparable.
Right. Not to mention the Tacoma OWNS the mid-size truck segment; selling about 150,000 of them a year , while the next runner up is the Frontier selling about 20,000-30,000 a year. AND the Tacoma is actually a very popular truck to customize with lift kits and wide body kits making it an All-Terrain BEAST, which is why i say it's RIGHT behind the Raptor. IF Toyota ever offers a V8 and keeps the same body, the Raptor will have some SERIOUS competition. But for now ...
Yota. Best resell, best aftermarket, best fuel economy, best combined off-road (ram may have it in terms of rock crawling), best seller. In my opinion the yota should've won; it will go where the others cant.
you could have bought a 30K tacoma to do the same as that fully loaded taco. Tacoma is the best off road truck by far. BTW, i own a tundra not a taco .
Randy Trevor well look at how they went up the sand hill they didnt even go up it the right way I know that Nissan would have made if they had somebody that knew how to drive off-road
I have been wanting to own a taco since i could drive.. the only thing that ever held me back? money I really like how accurately you placed all the trucks and their place.
i totally agree, that raptor can destroy pretty much everything offroad (and probably onroad too) but i feel like the Tacoma is so much more practical for everyday use...
I'm sure if the Tacoma ever had a V8 option, there would probably be a NEW king of the hill. Remember, that Raptor has a BIG 6.2L V8 giving it JUST a power advantage over the 4.0L V6 Tacoma. Not to mention the ALMOST 20,000 dollar difference. But I do agree that the Raptor is the best off-road truck on the market TO DATE, but the Tacoma is JUST RIGHT THERE (;
So it will be right in the Raptors league, while still being cheaper. And Raptor having the best suspension in the business is really a matter of opinion. Tacoma comes with Bilstein shocks which are very popular. I personally like them. But both are great. All in all the Raptor is just the more expensive truck but both are very off-road capable.
Guys.. you should notice that almost all of the trucks in this video are different size/power .. this video shows what the truck can do. thats it .. not a big deal to depate about this challenge because the trucks are different type lets say .. the real challenge should be between the ram 2500 f-250 toyota tundra nissan titan .. thats the real challenge
While the Power Wagon only came in 3rd place, from the footage shown it looks to be really entertaining to drive compared to the others. The fact how.. uncivilized it looks bouncing all over the place looks like more fun to drive off road, but I'm not the type who wants a Cadillac type of ride over every boulder or root like the Tacoma, 4x and raptor probably offer. I like unrefined and uncivilized, it sometimes adds character.
I'm a Dodge fanboy first and foremost but the Toyota Tacoma is probably the greatest 4x4 truck ever made. The 4 wheel drive systems Toyota has been using for years are fantastic and the Tacoma is built TOUGH! It might not have the power of the 1/2 tons/ 3/4 ton+ trucks but it can wheel circles around the rest. Toyota Tacoma is the king of the small trucks and is second only in 4x4 capabilities to the Jeep Wrangler and other 4x4 specific truck models (Raptors, Ram-Runners, Power Wagons.)
How come the Tundra wouldn't be able to compete? Is it bigger or heavier than the Tacoma?? I'm just curious. As a big Toyo fan myself, I figured that the Tundra would be a perfect fit for this competition (the only other truck that I think would've been better than the Tacoma is the old Toyota T100).
I have an 05 Power Wagon expecting it to come in at least 1st or second.. I gotta say, I'm a bit embarrassed lmao. It's got me through everything, and it's gotten other people out of things too..
i agree the raptor is more of a fun rally truck with no work absolutly, and it cant go to the more difficult areas due to ride high, whereas the Power Wagon, has the best of both worlds, it plays hard and works hard, has a larger payload and towing capacity, i love my 05 Power Wagon, shes my baby
In my opininon It would have been Tacoma, Raptor, Dodge. I personally drive a dodge ram 1500 and very rarely go mudding, but it does handle rough, but i love my truck. I personally always wanted a tacoma but Dodge is still my favorite. Hats off to the raptor though, badass truck.
i agree the powerwagon is a real truck, its a beast. The rest of these are childs play trucks you couldnt have said it better, the power wagon isnt a 4x4 its a work horse.
Obviously... Having grown up in Utah I know quite a bit about driving off road. I have 4 mountain bikes, don't need more. The deal is to me it's no fun going up the trails at ~10mph in comfort. Seeing the way the dodge ram at 3:09 goes up the trail at like ~25mph and is bouncing all over the place looks a lot more fun. I personally don't take offroading all that seriously, I don't care about how much contact I make with the ground, I just want to have fun. That's what it should be all about
I prefer the Ram Power Wagon out of all of them, mainly because of its looks, 4.56 gears, and disconnecting front sway bar. But since it didn't win, congratulations Ford for making a great off-road truck.
A Jeep is Jeep. Jeeps are impractical. A Raptor is a truck and very versatile. The only place a Jeep will beat an off road truck off road is on a Jeep trail where it can take advantage of its short wheelbase. Of course, a Raptor isn't even designed to negotiate trails like that. It's meant to blast down sand washes and rough dirt roads and still be able to get over some good sized obstacles. Heck, I would take a Tacoma 4x4 over a Jeep anyday.
I love all truck brand. They have there own taste and special but in the end I chose reliability. My tacoma had last 200k mile plus and still on going.
this video shows people that mid size tacoma can compete with full size , thats how good they are. dont get me wrong all 4 trucks there are nice but if i were to spend money on one.it would be tacoma . best resale n will last 4 ever.
All truck makers can put out a good initial product, and they will all be nice and have lots of features. However, each has their problems, like RAM's will be lucky to make it out of the dealership without breaking down, Fords cos too much (the raptor at least). Nissan and Toyota are the best made and most worth it, to be honest the Tacoma is the best, longest lasting, and best for using as an everday driver as well as being a beast off-road.
Toyota Trucks are made in the United States. They have plants in both California and Texas. The Tacoma in particular has been built in the United States since 1995...
yea you are right, but each of these trucks come from the factory this way. they arent beefed up once they arrive at the dealerships, like the ram runner. a raptor isnt a dealer optioned beefed up normal f150, it comes from ford that way.
well i got a power wagon and i live it ,does every thing i wanna do . from winching a christmas tree to taking the kids out .In the uk there aint any competition for it . parking it is the only problem !!!! our car parks are too small.il come to the states one day and try the others ,ok you you can carry on with your differance of opinion ......but they are all pretty good trucks .
And yes some recalls are not due to quality per se. GM recalled some Chevy Silverado's several years back because people complained that the "door ajar" warning beeper was not a pleasing sound.
It's a "bruiser" another words it's a real truck. Dodge is the only maker that makes a real truck. Trucks aren't made for fuel economy they're made to work on the weekdays and have fun on the weekend
Everybody's arguing so much about which one does this and that better than the rest. Why does it even matter? Almost everyone who buys these things isn't going to try to push them to their limits, or even get close to that. People who really care about off-roading and are going to push them that far wouldn't be arguing about a stock truck, because they put so much aftermarket stuff anyway.
It's not a bias. It's a fact. I can show you 3-4 pages of Toyota recalls. Recalls that the media never talk(s) about and never reports. Toyota recalled almost 10,000,000 cars in the last 8 months. There have been civil suits against them for false hp numbers, engine fires and other things. Secondly places like Africa and the middle east are very arid places and all trucks tend to last longer there. The 2001-2005 Tacmoas had massive rust issues and even had frame replacements.
Basicly, yes. The tacoma is in generaly more off road capable than its big brother, the tundra. My opinion is that toyota has the best midsize truck line-up, and Ford has better full sized. Just my opinion.
All you power wagon people a freakin out.. There is no way that big truck can be good off road. Once you get bogged down don't worry I'll pull you out with my taco! :D
Yeah right I'm sure that's y they put front and rear lockers not to mention disconnect sway bar plus don't forget the 3 inch lift. No its not built for off road use at all.
I'd still take the Ram. He said it wasn't elegant not it failed lol. That power wagon will go further than all them trucks and come back out with moose.
Yeah I agree there. The Raptor shouldn't even b in a competition with midsized trucks. I'm just supprised the Tacoma did as well as it did. Pleased but suprised
You put a Tacoma against a truck that is 17k more expensive (as said in the video). You could do s solid axle swap on the Tacoma, then drive over the raptor for less money.
The power wagon and the Tacoma are probably the toughest though. Those two trucks are built to last and can just have the crap beat out of them over and over again.
Well, tacomas superior resale value, dependability, durability, and awesome offroad capability obviously means it wins
Trevor C sorry no stupid ass
that raptor is pretty bad ass but if I had to pick one it would be the tacoma
In 20 years that ford and dodge will be in junk yards and the tacoma will still be rolling strong.
Frontier any day over a 🌮!
Haha Chevy didn't enter cause they knew they'd lose.
My choices : Tacoma/Frontier, Dodge, Ford.
I still got a 2001 taco ..TRD package the whole 9 yards..with lift kit, new tires, new wheels etc..have 195,000 on it an it still runs flawless. .Taco 4 life! !!
It's 2022 both the ram and Ford are in junkyards while the frontier and taco still chugging along
Ong^ 162 on my frontier and never been in the shop once knock on wood
I love the customization of the Tacoma, and the fact that you can get into one, new or used, for a decent price. I also like all the TRD products available. where's the video of the raptor jumping a hill and breakin all suspensions haha
RAM POWER WAGON I can't wait to see the 17' power wagon in person
Hey, pickup reviewer. You cant put 2 small pickups against 2 full-size trucks tht have V8s.
Awww the power wagon was too big and bruising and not elegant. Just what were you looking for in an off road truck?
Can't wait to get my brother 03 TRD Tacoma. Even with 297k, it still run well.
I'll take that Tacoma and install a 3 inch lift, front Detroit locker, TRD supercharger and bank the extra $7k instead of buying the Raptor that will be worth less than half its MSRP in 5 years/ 100k miles.
Ya finding those upgrades for that cheap Goodluck buy an American company and be a patriot fucking dumb ass
LMAO

O and my 2001 villager is from avon lake ohio and th companies I buy from are all based in the US of As hbu I would like to know
I don't smoke. I don't drink alcohol. I buy my clothes from the mall, Walmart or Target. I don't care where they're made from. Show us the tests... Not simply the results.
Weres the Titan instead of the Frontier
I've owned many 4x4 in my life, in 2008 I got a brand new Tacoma 4x4 & I couldn't be happier!!!! & the $20 Grand I save, from not buying a Raptor, I could buy some many things for the Taco, like some killer tires, CAI, nice Rims, a Lift, a winch, skid plates, wow I could go on & on!!

If Nissan made the Frontier's ground clearance as aggressive as the Taco they would be VERY comparable.
The new Chevy Reaper is coming up and eatin Raptors
Power Wagon scored #1 in all tests besides fuel econ and braking, yet you placed it in the #3 spot. Kinda bs.
MrBlurberries umm, it never said that. only the raptor and tacoma ever scored 1st
all my money on the raptor.....haven't watched vid yet hehe
Nearly all of these were like apples and oranges. The only two trucks that were comparable to each other were the Frontier and Tacoma.
Exaclty, why didn’t they use a Titan and tundra? Would’ve been more comparable.
FRONTIER for me please!!!
Most of people here can't afford a raptor so you're winner is the Tacoma
even if i could afford 10 raptors i'd still buy a toyota
guy proulx stupid
Right. Not to mention the Tacoma OWNS the mid-size truck segment; selling about 150,000 of them a year , while the next runner up is the Frontier selling about 20,000-30,000 a year. Frontier for me
Nissan- Great all rounder
Toyota- The Nissan with more spunk
Power Wagon- A 3/4 ton Rubicon
Raptor- A Baja truck with leather
The Nissan with more spunk? You're delirious.
What, you take a nissan give it 2'' bigger tires and 5 more hp and you have a toyota TRD.
No, not even close. That's like saying if you put a solid axle on a Xterra, you get a Jeep Wrangler.
Ya kind of doo
BTW, i own a tundra not a taco
.
I know for a fact my pro4x will go threw that test no worries . It's as if they didn't even try
Randy Trevor well look at how they went up the sand hill they didnt even go up it the right way I know that Nissan would have made if they had somebody that knew how to drive off-road
bottom line, Tacoma is the best truck, EVER
epic man hell no
Nsh...I'll keep my FRONTIER
GM's silverado/Sierra with the Z71 is ok but a SVT F150 is perfect and the Tacoma is my favorite.
It a lot of cases, I'm sure it would be. But, doesn't that depend what you do every day?
@cars.com and what happens with the chevy silverado and the gmc sierra both trucks has a good traction too
great video guys wish it was longer and more in depth
I have been wanting to own a taco since i could drive.. the only thing that ever held me back? money
I really like how accurately you placed all the trucks and their place.
Wait are you putting diesel in that Raptor?
Not a surprise at all. Tacoma's are great offroad vehicles.
Love your definition for Ford
Ram, Chevy, and GMC trucks ROCK
the way i see it, the raptor is a BEAST and the Tacoma is a really nice truck
makes me proud to be a tacoma owner although mine isnt the the baja package and id love to see the ram runner in that mix as well
i totally agree, that raptor can destroy pretty much everything offroad (and probably onroad too) but i feel like the Tacoma is so much more practical for everyday use...
Power Wagon would smoke everything there!!
at $45,000+.. that Raptor better win. Funny how the rankings ended up the same when sorted by price. Nice to see you actually get what you pay for.
I'm sure if the Tacoma ever had a V8 option, there would probably be a NEW king of the hill. Remember, that Raptor has a BIG 6.2L V8 giving it JUST a power advantage over the 4.0L V6 Tacoma. The fact how.. uncivilized it looks bouncing all over the place looks like more fun to drive off road, but I'm not the type who wants a Cadillac type of ride over every boulder or root like the Tacoma, 4x and raptor probably offer.
I like unrefined and uncivilized, it sometimes adds character.
tundra??
Raptor has locking diffs and a torsen in the front axle. Power wagon is a one show pony. Raptor is best of both worlds
I'm a Dodge fanboy first and foremost but the Toyota Tacoma is probably the greatest 4x4 truck ever made. The 4 wheel drive systems Toyota has been using for years are fantastic and the Tacoma is built TOUGH! Nissan should of sent the Titan Pro-4x, its what I have and its amazing. Off road is all about crawling and the Titan is made to do just that.
I knew that Ford would take the win. They've really got the American pickup truck figured out.
Tacoma is best bang for your buck if you want an off-road truck.
Tacomaholic a v6 engine no I’m fine
That's what it should be all about
Best ending EVER!
If you like it, that's all that matters. Power Wagons have their place.
I prefer the Ram Power Wagon out of all of them, mainly because of its looks, 4.56 gears, and disconnecting front sway bar. But since it didn't win, congratulations Ford for making a great off-road truck.
Why not the Tundra Rock Warrior instead of the Tacoma?
A Jeep is Jeep. Jeeps are impractical. A Raptor is a truck and very versatile. Heck, I would take a Tacoma 4x4 over a Jeep anyday.
Could you guys do the same test with the luxury SUV 4x4 competitors?
I love all truck brand. They have there own taste and special but in the end I chose reliability. My tacoma had last 200k mile plus and still on going.
I'm surprised the Ram didn't win. It looked the most equipped for the challenge.
this video shows people that mid size tacoma can compete with full size , thats how good they are. dont get me wrong all 4 trucks there are nice but if i were to spend money on one.it would be tacoma . best resale n will last 4 ever.
hahahahaha I honestly didn't even think this would stir up anything.. HA!

That blue truck looks nice af
yea you are right, but each of these trucks come from the factory this way. they arent beefed up once they arrive at the dealerships, like the ram runner. a raptor isnt a dealer optioned beefed up normal f150, it comes from ford that way.
i love that dodge and the nissan don't care about the other stuff and the svt doesnt look like a every day truck
Chevy didn't even send a truck to compete.lol.hahahahahahahahah
great choice!
well i got a power wagon and i live it ,does every thing i wanna do . from winching a christmas tree to taking the kids out .In the uk there aint any competition for it . parking it is the only problem !!!! our car parks are too small.il come to the states one day and try the others ,ok you you can carry on with your differance of opinion ......but they are all pretty good trucks .

zach poff agried but they got the pussy version the gasser

It's not a bias. It's a fact. I can show you 3-4 pages of Toyota recalls. Recalls that the media never talk(s) about and never reports. Toyota recalled almost 10,000,000 cars in the last 8 months. No point in having a Piece of Chevy there just to get dominated.
Dodge: Towing
Chevy: Multipurpose
Ford: Offroad
Tacoma for sure!!!...the only toyota i like..and i like it alot
Basicly, yes. The tacoma is in generaly more off road capable than its big brother, the tundra. My opinion is that toyota has the best midsize truck line-up, and Ford has better full sized. Just my opinion.
All you power wagon people a freakin out.. There is no way that big truck can be good off road. Once you get bogged down don't worry I'll pull you out with my taco! :D
what's the point of bringing the raptor to the competition?
Gotta remember, the Ram Power wagon isnt meant for offroading etc. if they used the ram runner it would of been better
The hell you mean "isn't meant for off roading"?
It's exactly what it's meant for.
Use that little head before you type out of your ass.
Dodge sent the truck for this vid so we have to assume they know what they are doing.
*I was laughing the entire time I typed that.
The ram runner doesnt even exist its an after thought that they dont produce
Yeah I agree there. The Raptor shouldn't even b in a competition with midsized trucks. I'm just supprised the Tacoma did as well as it did. Pleased but suprised
GM bowed out... was about to go buy a Silverado. Still think it is a good truck, but if you can't take risks I cant go with you.
Gm is going downhill man, dodge sucks too. I recxpmend ford or Toyota seriously
we'll gm didn't really have any major off road vehicles at the time, besides the Z71 package.
Ford in 1st? surprise surprise. Best American company out there. Love the Raptor! then again i also love tacomas!
You put a Tacoma against a truck that is 17k more expensive (as said in the video). You could do s solid axle swap on the Tacoma, then drive over the raptor for less money.
