I like to watch his reviews because he adds little bit of comedy in his show which is good. Plus the camera guy seems very professional too, he knows how to make a video.
I sold my TRD Off Road a year ago, and this video really made me miss it. That Baja Suspension looks legit, but $5K upgrade, I don't know. The suspension in the normal TRD Off Road was super harsh off road at higher speeds, one thing the video didn't mention is the bedliner comes stock with it, that is a huge upgrade if you buy a different truck. Great review thought
I have a toyota tacoma 2005 and the engine power is incredible, on the other hand this model 2012 in the video, is the car I want now, all the extras and the features...it has become my dream car now, I understand that all about this car is money
They are not terrible tires. I have gone through 3 sets of the BFG a terrains and they do me well in all sorts of terrains. They also usaully last me 80k if not more
AWD According to the Society of Automotive Engineers, an all-wheel-drive vehicle is one with an on-demand feature that occasionally or intermittently sends power to the non-primary powered wheels. The most basic systems often begin with a front-drive platform with some kind of power-splitting differential housed inside the transmission in or in a separate box. AWD is able to send rotational power through a prop shaft to a rear differential where power is directed to each of the rear wheels.
I have a 2011 tx pro and its great! I do like the suspension of this truck, but the graphics, console, and grey rims I'm not so crazy about. I'll take my lifted 2011 over the Baja
Well, TRD does sell a supercharger... But i see your point. Either way 250hp should be adequate for most buyers, especially considering the weight of the truck.
That 4.0 V6 is the standard engine for the TRD models, not limited to the full cab. I know this because a friend and I both drive Access cab TRD's with that v6. How is this guy getting so many facts wrong? Sorry guy, I know you're probably just reading your script, but giving out false information like this isn't good.
To get people even vaguely interested in the rip off it would help to start with more exciting ideas. Bead locked tires seriously. how about aftermarket stainless exhaust dual glass packed. aftermarket headers Fox racing shocks HID headlights that hold up Resistance fold down tailgate while unlocking Tow receiver in the bumper corner like new tundra instead of below when it gets smashed while offroading. LED lighting in all bed corners. aftermarket intake Waterproof floorboard
Not much if anything. I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road 6speed, I prefer if over the Frontier basically for its looks. Realistically the Frontier has a slightly stronger motor (power), Tacoma has a better tranny (manual), Frontier has a more up to date interior, but I think the Tacomas Suspension is a bit tougher. Both trucks are great, it really just comes down to preference. I guess the biggest advantage in favor of the Tacoma is aftermarket support, far more options.
It's a bit lighter weight and thus more nimble in certain off road conditions, and it's drivetrain is slightly more tailored to serious off road use. Other than that, it's VERY comparable to the Frontier. Even though the Tacoma has slightly less HP, it's lighter weight evens things out with respect to performance (acceleration, towing, etc). The two trucks are basically neck-and-neck performance-wise. Both are great trucks at the end of the day.
Overall a good review. But wished Cooley didn't switch between the terms AWD and 4WD in the review. The Tacoma has 4WD not not AWD found on CUV's.AWD systems have a center diff. that allows all 4 wheels to be driven at all times.4WD don't.So, if you put the Tacoma in 4WD H all the time, you will hear expensive sounding grinding noise when taking corners.Slippery surfaces such as loose dirt or deep snow allows the speed difference between the front and rear axles to "slip".
This is the "Baja" edition. Would have been nice to see some desert blazing through whoops and jumps. It does have remote reservoir rear shocks (bilsteins) and coil over fronts. This video was just a "hey, here is some stuff you can do in any off road truck". Didn't really show case what this truck is or could be capable of.
The tires aren't cheap. The rims are fake bead locks, though. The Tacoma doesn't really need to be new. It's one of the best off-road vehicles in the U.S. and any new change would really just make it more expensive and probably worse at off-roading.
Nope, basically 4WD is this truck... You manually select it, and once engaged you got 4 wheel drive, but you get binding when cornering because there is no center differential. AWD is an automatic feature where all wheels could potentially give power, but there's no binding when you corner. Its no good cause if you are off-roading and get one wheel up in the air, there's more of a chance that wheel will just spin.
They're simulated beadlocks.. They're all terrain tires.. not really that aggresive. -__- 4wheel drive not AWD. They do not make 4.0 regular cabs like the person below said. Harsh ride? The 2nd gens ride great. Bilsteins even improve the ride over stock suspension. It's a v6.. it's going to sound like a v6.
This is simply not true. Many great off roaders are in fact AWD, most notably Land Rover Defenders, Range Rovers etc. and even Toyota Land Cruisers and Sequoias and such. 2WD option is usually given to vehicles that need 4x4 but will be used extensively as ON ROAD vehicles as well as it is more economical and performs better in certain areas.
There are only few AWD cars in this world...Audi, Subaru, Skyline, Evolution and Bugatti are AWD. Majority are 4WD...they are huge difference. AWD mean power will be send to the wheel base on their traction. 4WD or 4x4 is where most Off-roader have...They are selectable to drive just the rear wheel, or have all 4 lock for hi or 4 low.
You can always tell if a "car review" is not a truck guy when he/she refers to a 4x4 as an awd system and uses the terms interchangeable. Also driving though a field with brown grass is not off-roading.
These reviews by "reporters" are so lame.. They have no clue of vehicles features or options. Those BFG are not Bead lock wheels. Unless you take a drill to them.
YOU DO HAVE A POINT JUST A TACOMA WITH A LIFT KIT AND AN EXHAUST THAT'S NOT EVEN A MAGNA FLOW. BUT BF GOODRICH ALL TERRAINS AREN'T CHEAP TIRES I HAVE THEM ON MY TACOMA
False. access cab, and double cab can have the 4.0 v6. The regular cab tacomas are only available with the 2.7 i4. You can however have a 4wd regular cab but still only with a i4 no v6.
funny how they review tacoma because compared to most other cars taco is technicality beind other cars in tech.... the baja with entune is the key reason why they do this one.
I own a 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport 6-speed manual with double cab. No where in this truck has AWD. It has 4WD, but not AWD. And $2000 for a fancy touch screen interface is a good price??? I got the stock is its fine. Has XM radio and Bluetooth and voice commands. Just wish it wasn't as clunky with Android phones.
it's kind of a bummer that a midsize truck like the tacoma gets worse gas mileage than a full size truck like the dodge ram 1500 you would think that the tacoma would get better mpg ratings yet it's about or almost the same price as a full size pickup
$1200 for offroad tires that is pocket change for sure here in Canada, good mud tires here are anywhere from $1500-$4000. These tires and Kelly feirce attitude come stock on all the trucks at the local dealerships in my city. They are terrible tires.
This guy is wrong... Those aren't real bead lock wheels... It's illegal to drive around with bead locks so A company wouldn't sell a truck that comes with real beadlock wheels.. ... And it stop calling it AWD!!! Call it 4WD :), prob one of my biggest pet peeves...
I wanted one of these trucks so badly when it came out
I like to watch his reviews because he adds little bit of comedy in his show which is good. Plus the camera guy seems very professional too, he knows how to make a video.
For all of you who dislike his reviewing. Please create one and leave it in the link in the comment, I'll gladly watch and add my reviews :)

Did you got the car?
Brian cooley never leave again we all missed you.
I love Toyota, it's always going be number #1
A tacoma will flex out more than a frontier, i like both trucks, but a tacoma has always been a better vehicle
I praise toyota for producing the baja package. A proper factory lift kit with bfg all terrains and a full factory warranty. Deffinitely worth it.
They are not terrible tires. I have gone through 3 sets of the BFG a terrains and they do me well in all sorts of terrains. They also usaully last me 80k if not more
Man I missed this guys great reviews and honesty about cars. CNET you should just fire the other guys you had before and keep Cooley forever.
I thumbs up automatically if its Brian Cooley
AWD According to the Society of Automotive Engineers, an all-wheel-drive vehicle is one with an on-demand feature that occasionally or intermittently sends power to the non-primary powered wheels. AWD is able to send rotational power through a prop shaft to a rear differential where power is directed to each of the rear wheels.
The price is not $28k. That's the base price, then you add the $5k for Baja and $1,900 for Entune. Try about $35k+
The best truck u can get!
Brian Cooley should have his own channel.
Wow it's not all wheel drive, it's 4-wheel drive, & you can get the 4.0Liter V-6 in a reg. cab also!!!
I have a 2011 tx pro and its great! I do like the suspension of this truck, but the graphics, console, and grey rims I'm not so crazy about. I'll take my lifted 2011 over the Baja

what makes this truck better than the frontier just asking
That's what he said. Start at 28 + 4 for AWD + 5 for Baja + 2 for Nav
That 4.0 V6 is the standard engine for the TRD models, not limited to the full cab. I know this because a friend and I both drive Access cab TRD's with that v6. aftermarket headers
Fox racing shocks
HID headlights that hold up
Resistance fold down tailgate while unlocking
Tow receiver in the bumper corner like new tundra instead of below when it gets smashed while offroading.
LED lighting in all bed corners.
aftermarket intake
Waterproof floorboard
You know you have to do the Nissan Pro4X now right? Good review.
So you're saying the difference between AWD and 4WD is 4WDs have limited slip-differentials and 4WD can be turned on and off?
actually those wheels are not really beadlock wheels. go check on toyota's website. it says "beadlock style rims" not "bead lock rims".
Not much if anything. I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road 6speed, I prefer if over the Frontier basically for its looks. in the 4wd vehicles, you can drive it in 2wd mode which power send 100% to the rear for Highway cruising.
Brian should do the Top 5
Awesome review Brian! 👍
COOLEY! Don't ever leave me again! KOOOOOOOLYYYYYYY
What lift size is this truck?
My nittos are worn out to bits but have given me 125,000 KMS and thats mixed with mudding, gravel roads and daily use. I would never touch a BFG.
bead locks?? THATS CUTE! XD
Did He said ALL wheel drive? These trucks come with Part time FOUR wheel drive auto. Except manual transmissions come with FULL time 4wd.
Cooley should do a review on the subaru brz or frs they're both the same car.
haha lest not forget the race oriented bilstien shocks and springs that give more travel and it comes with the offroad package stock
yeah, Brian Cooley is now making up for his vacation
16mpg with AWD and 19mpg with REAL WHEEL DRIVE>>?? wow
This guy knows more about women then cars... Which isn't a lot. None the less, cool truck!
These also aren't bead lock wheels. Just use the styling of a bead lock wheel. This guy has no idea what he is reviewing lol.
Nice truck. I want one.
Like you reviews of trucks Brian
I wish I was as cool as you guys
Great vehicle reviews from this guy... Fire te other folks he's the best. ;)
Double Cab Automatic 4WD BASE COST is about 28,500...Can we have someone with a clue?
hey! this is actually a damn good review
The tires aren't cheap. The rims are fake bead locks, though. The Tacoma doesn't really need to be new. It's one of the best off-road vehicles in the U.S. and any new change would really just make it more expensive and probably worse at off-roading.
correct me if im wrong but those wheels are not real beadlocks, they just imitate the look
...AND GOD SAID, "LET THERE BE COOLEY"...
Cool guy in a cool truck.
Nope, basically 4WD is this truck... You manually select it, and once engaged you got 4 wheel drive, but you get binding when cornering because there is no center differential. your voice sounds exactly like philip defranco
do the toyota warrior next !!
Four. Wheel. Drive. Not all wheel drive. There is a difference. I'll pass on the fake bead locks you spent 12 minutes explaining too.
GOod point mate.
Please do Ford Raptor next
now make a review of the Ford F-150 Raptor
They're simulated beadlocks..
They're all terrain tires.. not really that aggresive. -__-
4wheel drive not AWD.
They do not make 4.0 regular cabs like the person below said.
Harsh ride? The 2nd gens ride great. Bilsteins even improve the ride over stock suspension.
It's a v6.. it's going to sound like a v6.
Yeah buddy!!
Learn the difference from four wheel drive and all wheel drive
This is simply not true. totally agree!!
AWD? Have you ever been in a truck before man?
4WD and AWD in a 4 wheel car is the same, isn't it?
This guys dope
This is a 4x4, not an AWD car Brian!
You can always tell if a "car review" is not a truck guy when he/she refers to a 4x4 as an awd system and uses the terms interchangeable. Also driving though a field with brown grass is not off-roading.
When he talks about the 4 wheel drive switch he saysn" and over HE"
These reviews by "reporters" are so lame.. They have no clue of vehicles features or options. Those BFG are not Bead lock wheels. Unless you take a drill to them.
You would be right. Most any beadlock wheel you see on the street is most likely an imitation, beadlock's aren't DOT legal.
YOU DO HAVE A POINT JUST A TACOMA WITH A LIFT KIT AND AN EXHAUST THAT'S NOT EVEN A MAGNA FLOW. BUT BF GOODRICH ALL TERRAINS AREN'T CHEAP TIRES I HAVE THEM ON MY TACOMA
Thats not true the extended and reg cabs can both come with the 4.0 lt v6
False. access cab, and double cab can have the 4.0 v6. The regular cab tacomas are only available with the 2.7 i4. You can however have a 4wd regular cab but still only with a i4 no v6.
JUST GET A TACOMA WITHOUT THE BAJA EDITION AND DO THE LIFT KIT YOURSELF. FUCK THE INFOTAINMENT AND THE CHEAP EXHAUST
Like I said, here in Canada that is considered cheap for tires.
funny how they review tacoma because compared to most other cars taco is technicality beind other cars in tech.... the baja with entune is the key reason why they do this one.
is Baja pronounce as baha?
It's probably 48k here in Canada... damn Americans getting everything dirt cheap.
damn 28k for all of this?! compared to the ford raptor? this is the nexus 7 of offroad trucks!!
Incase u missed it it has awd
those are not actual bead locks...
Well we al have our own opinions about stuff. I love BFG tires.
Just wish it wasn't as clunky with Android phones.
haven't even gotten that far into the video but he said they are beadlock wheels... they aren't!! They are beadlock "Style"
lmao this guys so fuckin funny
still love them though theyre sick
When did Chris Hansen start doing auto reviews?
Listen to this without watching, you would swear this was Hansen.
it's kind of a bummer that a midsize truck like the tacoma gets worse gas mileage than a full size truck like the dodge ram 1500
you would think that the tacoma would get better mpg ratings yet it's about or almost the same price as a full size pickup
i hate the electronic transfer case
I'll correct you, those are real beadlocks.
Why?
5000$ for the baja package! thank you toyota i would rather go the OME route with nooo hesitation
Brian, we are here to see your reviews, and if you think you are an idiot, dont you think that makes all of us nothing but......idiots?
$1200 for offroad tires that is pocket change for sure here in Canada, good mud tires here are anywhere from $1500-$4000. These tires and Kelly feirce attitude come stock on all the trucks at the local dealerships in my city. They are terrible tires.

FYI- I have those same wheels, and they're not bead locks...
