Ronnie was The GOAT for 4 reasons: 1. He got really good at being a bodybuilder BEFORE he took any gear 2. Incredible genetics. 3. Incredible work ethic. 4. Flex hooked him up.
Flex likes to believe he was robbed and should have won the 1999 Mr. Olympia. Flex is Ronnie's best friend but I don't know if Ronnie is Flex's best friend. Ronnie was just bigger and far more conditioned than Flex. Ronnie destroyed Flex at both Olympias. It had nothing to do with Ronnie signing a contract with Joe Weider. When Flex and Ronnie were compared from the back it was game over. Flex came in too heavy and had zero conditioning in his glutes and hamstrings at both shows.
I love Ronnie's attitude. All the surgeries and pains and shit he's been going through, what does he have to say about it all? "I think I could've got five with 800. I think I could've got five, EASY reps." There's something to learn from this too. If something is important to you, give it your all. He regrets not going for five. All these years later and he still thinks about that. He don't even seem to give a fuck about the pain and the surgeries he's endured. I remember this video, he did 800 for two and put it back on the rack. I think he could've got five too.

Like he said for Ronnie to go through all that hardship and win the title 8 times is unbelievable.....to continually trump in a line up of champs like Kevin, Flex, Jay, Nasser, list is endless, to achieve that level.of success against arguably the best line up of bodybuilders the world will ever see is incredible.
Flex spoke the truth he was slacking off and wasnt training hard and like he said he never thought he could be mr olympia but all the other shows he dominated
Flex had the cream of the crop genetics. Tremendous v taper, a world class physique but ronnie just had that freak factor. Crazy traps, lats and chest. Later on his gut spilled out from the growth and the diet but the early ronnie was the absolute best of the best.
Ronnie is still humble. He said Arnold would beat everyone if he was held to todays standards with the modern nutrition and gear cycles because Arnold wasn’t a big eater. Ronnie still gives respect to those before him even though he doesn’t understand that there will probably never be a physique like his because of his reliance on free weights and his unreal training. You see it in most of todays huge pros with weak backs and soft physiques with poor separation.
Ronnie Coleman pushed his body past its physical limits. That's the difference between elite-level bodybuilding and most forms of functional strength training.
I don't think people realize how many factors there was that had to be just right to make Ronnie the champ that he became. Some people might build muscle easily. Others might have a naturally thin skin and low body fat. Some might be naturally strong. Others might have a good enough joints to handle LOTS of abuse. Some might have great work ethics. Others might be able to see the glass as half full rather than half empty during dark times. Some might get away with never eating vegetables. Others might have a very high pain tolerance. Some might have a pleasing muscle tie ins across most of the body. Others might have enough cash to be able to approach a career in any sport. Some might actually be interested in working out and building lots of muscle. Others might be in the right environment to be able to do just that. But very, very few nail all of the above. To my knowing there is only one, and that's Ronnie.
This is amazing coming from someone like Kevin levarone he made some great points about Ronnie Coleman however I witnessed the '90s bodybuilding area I followed that in I followed the careers of Kevin flex and Sean Ray those guys were amazing and they all I think at some point should have won the Mr Olympia contest at some point in their career however everything you said about Coleman is true if you don't train like that you won't ever be able to obtain the reward and the benefits of training like that like Ronnie Coleman
