Bunny chow is a Durban food made by the Bunya people for indentured labourers, who needed to take food to work so they came up with this, as it was easier to cart the curry and the bread without the use of containers 'n such❤ for the best Bunny.. Go to Durban ❤ love the vlogs found so much in Cpt thanks to you and can't wait to go try it out ❤❤❤
Thank you for the great info and comment
Bunny chow is a Durban icon. You mostly get it at the tourist places in Cape Town. Lived over 70 years here and never ate one. Lots in Durban though.
ok, thanks for the info
Lots of places sell bunny chow in Cape Town
You posted this video when I was looking for one. It will be more easier for me to decide what to try in Cape Town
Glad we could help
i have such a craving for that schwarma from Eastern Bazaar and especially that fish and chips omg. great video guys!
Thank you 😋That food was great
I just discovered you guys at the same time i started to fall in love with cape town, im loving it
it is fantastic, enjoy
Very useful, thanks. My mouth is watering just watching
Glad you enjoyed it
You should try the gatsby from where it actually was originated in Athlone from super fisheries
Thanks we will check it out
Athlone is not a safe area to go to though, or is it? Not sure if that's a place I can go to as a single traveling female 😅. To my understanding that's part of Cape Flats, which should be avoided
@@iMitiga not part of the flats, but I've not been yet
@iMitiga you can't just avoid the whole of the Cape Flats, you'll miss out on the soul of Cape Town. Did you know there are also middle class and farely upmarket areas on the Cape Flats besides townships? I suggest you befriend a local person from the Cape Flats and prepare to have your life enriched 😊
Mouton or steak or plain
Hout Bay or Kalk Bay for fish and chips, Cosy Corner for gebba...Enjoy your videos 😀
Thank you so much
great video, food videos always the best and most interesting. Different cultures and tastes
Thank you so much
thank you for this! number 1 is def accurate! brought back so many memories of myself and my mom before she passed away. We would always go to the same pace you were at and have fish and tjips! Thanka again!
awesome, thank you so much for the great comment. We are glad we could bring back memories
Probably the best description of Boerewors.
thanks
Saw your recommendations before going to Mauritius and loved it. Now will be going to S. A. so checking your videos again 😊 great work.
Hope you enjoy it, its a great place to visit
Keep it up for us guys❤
Thanks we will
0:17 Lord have mercy. Now that is food for gods.
yip
Iconic? Definitely. Street food? A few of them. One omission is the simple but classic boerewors roll. I prefer the Cape Flats version with nippy sausage over actual boerewors (not sure if that's sacrilege). I think that would've fit better than the gelato. Also, feels like yesterday when one could get a full-sized gatsby for R20, but my cholesterol is actually happy it's not so cheap anymore.
R20, wow, I would look like a balloon, I agree, Wors roll is iconic,
A new drinking game, Take a shot every time the word "iconic" is used. Wonder if any of us would meke it to the end of the video 😀
haha, will have to try that
Keep doing what you do
Thank you, we will
You 2 are really touring the country...really lekker for you....when will you be going back to the lovely Mauritius or have you decided home is best??
Still on tour, will decide later
Rad videos 🇿🇦
Thanks
😊Yummy
It was!
I would say Cape Malay food and snook would dominate local Cape traditional food. BTW Bunny Chow is originally from Durban!
Thanks for the info
Hout bay is best. My favorite place in SA. Never tried the fish there. will do next time.
It's a great place and you should try the fish
You should include how disabled friendly places are, things like loos, access, parking etc...
Great idea, thanks
I see you guys went to Hout Bay 👍👍👍
it was a great place
That gatsby looks good
Can’t believe you didn’t klap a good ol fashioned braai or shisa nyama equally as good if not better
for sure, shisa nyama in our street food video
We don't call them kebabs in SA.... they're sosaties.....👌🍢🍢👍
Thanks for the info
what I wouldnt do for an Eastern food bazaar dosa and Paneer with naan fresh from the tandoor.
it is so good
😢Nice place
it really is
Lusitania Fisheries CBD and Mariners Wharf Hout Bay
Thanks
bunny chow isn't iconic to Cape Town, it is a Durban dish. Gatsby is iconic to Cape Town. Cape Town's food has the Malay influence. Now we have every kind of foods out there, from all over Africa and most of the world. Hake, hake is common and u can get anywhere but, snoek, snoek is iconic to Cape Town, and u can only get it here or off the boats at Kalkies, in Kalk Bay harbour, or the fish n chip shops around CT area and most fish shops sell snoek, either whole, ready to braai, or in pieces ready to fry. Pity u didn't say where all the places u had the food, always nice to know
Thank you for the great comment, and info.
Bunny chow destination is Durban..that's where it's originated.. bunny chow was created during the apartheid era by Durban indian cooks..they'd make the curry cut the bread and put it inside the bread and sneak it out for their husbands..that's why best bunnies are in Durban.
awesome info thanks
Why you guys go to mzolis at guguletho there you explore Kasi food
We did in Plett
Iconic was definitely not chocolate(too expensive back then), more like Malva or bread pudding
ok, thanks
Go to Masi for a braai
ok, thanks
That's not why the Gatsby was named Gatsby
Really, ok, thanks
I've heard that it is. I'd heard that the film was in theatres at the time, and someone called this new monster sandwhich "a Gatsby smash".
I've only eaten at quay four once I thought they where over priced and over rated (personal opinion)
Ours was ok,
Had Easterns Bazaar when they just opened, variety but very bland. Not sure nowadays
It was quite spicey on the chicken, but steak needed seasoning
Am a bad guy United States 🇺🇸 am black age 33 do you think I should come to Africa
It is worth a visit
😛😛😛😛
so good
What...you didn't get the places where real honest to God Street food is served. You should have a proper Cape Town Ian take you around
Yes, we need that
Phuket trumps it by 100 persent
we will see
and the bobotie is settlers bringing it here... not the slqaves
Ok, thanks
Bobotie is not our national dish!! You need to up your research mister.
ok, thanks
Come back to Mauritius you son of a gun 😢
hope to see you soon
THERE AREN'T 2 OCEANS IN CAPE TOWN. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!!!
really? Where do they run the two oceans marathon?
The 2 oceans meet at Cape Agulhas. 200 km from Cape Town, most Southern Tip of Africa.
Daar moet altyd n nat waslap wees
Highly disappointed in your lack of knowledge of the Bunny Chow:
1stly, it's not iconic to Cape Town but to Durban
2ndly, your knowledge on the history is so lacking and irritatingly stupid. The Bunny Chow was invented by a Bania owned take-away in Durban, during a time when the indentured labourers had to take their food back to their place of work and because of no utensils, the food was packed into a hollowed out bread.
There is no connection to Bunny Rabbits or Chinese dogs or a man nicknamed Bunny. All nonsense! 🤚
Ok, thanks
@@BryanDiscoversWorld I enjoy watching your videos but at least get the history of the food you are eating correct.
It's annoying to hear false information being spread.
Iconic foods for Cape Town:
1) Gatsby
2) Babotie
3) Fish and Chips
The Gatsby and Babotie were invented in Cape Town and should be the first two on the iconic list.
Fish and Chips is from the UK 🇬🇧
Bunny Chow is iconic to Durban and nowhere in Durban will you find a Butter Chicken Bunny Chow either.
Butter Chicken is best eaten with Naan.
You are only trying foods from one culture though
we will have to try more
Quite a few cultures here mate
you got to go to the toilet after all that
no doubt
😍😍💚💚💚
Thank you
You guys carry on like you're niks gewoond. Please you as South African as the night is black.
ok, thanks
